1 As snow in summer, and rain in harvest, so glory is not seemly for a fool.	1 - Come all'estate la neve, come alla mèsse la pioggia, così allo stolto la gloria non sta bene.
2 As a bird flying to other places, and a sparrow going here or there: so a curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man.	2 Come uccello che passa via, come passero che se ne va, così la maledizione scagliata senza motivo, sorvolerà su chiunque fu detta.
3 A whip for a horse, and a snaffle for an ass, and a rod for the back of fools.	3 La sferza al cavallo, la cavezza all'asino, e al dosso degli stolti, il bastone.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou be made like him.	4 Non risponder allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, affinchè non diventi par suo anche tu.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise.	5 Rispondi allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, affinchè non si creda saggio ai suoi occhi.
6 He that sendeth words by a foolish messenger, is lame of feet and drinketh iniquity.	6 Resta a piè zoppo e col male in corpochi manda commissioni per mezzo d'uno stolto.
7 As a lame man hath fair legs in vain: so a parable is unseemly in the mouth of fools.	7 Come a uno zoppo non serve aver belli gli stinchi, così non serve il proverbio in bocca agli stolti.
8 As he that casteth a stone into the heap of Mercury: so is he that giveth honour to a fool.	8 Come chi getta sassi alle macerie, così chi dà lode allo stolto.
9 As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.	9 Come uno spino se in mano a un ubriaco spuntasse, così il proverbio in bocca agli stolti.
10 Judgment determineth causes: and he that putteth a fool to silence, appeaseth anger.	10 La sentenza tronca le litie chi impone il silenzio allo stolto acqueta gli sdegni.
11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.	11 Come il cane che ritorna al vomito, così lo stolto che ricasca nella sua stoltezza.
12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own conceit? there shall be more hope of a fool than of him.	12 Hai visto un uomo sapiente ai suoi propri occhi? c'è da aspettarsi più da uno stolto che da costui.
13 The slothful man saith: There is a lion in the way, and a lioness in the roads.	13 Dice il pigro: «Di fuori c'è il leone, c'è la pantera per istrada».
14 As the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.	14 Come la porta si gira sui propri cardinicosì il pigro nel proprio letto.
15 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth.	15 Il pigro mette la mano sotto l'ascella, e a stento la ritira per portarsela alla bocca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit, than seven men that speak sentences.	16 Ai suoi occhi lo stolto è più sapientedi sette uomini che dànno responsi assennati.
17 As he that taketh a dog by the ears, so is he that passeth by in anger, and meddleth with another man's quarrel.	17 Come chi afferra un cane per gli orecchi, così il passante impronto che s'immischia nelle questioni altrui.
18 As he is guilty that shooteth arrows, and lances unto death :	18 Come è colpevole chi lancia dardi e giavellotti micidiali,
19 So is the man that hurteth his friend deceitfully: and when he is taken, saith: I did it in jest.	19 così chi dolosamente nuoce all'amico, e preso in fallo dice: «Lo feci per celia».
20 When the wood faileth, the fire shall go out: and when the talebearer is taken away, contentions shall cease.	20 Col finir delle legna il fuoco si spegne, e levato di mezzo il detrattore, si sopiscono le contese.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so an angry man stirreth up strife.	21 Il carbone per la brace, la legna pel fuoco e l'accattabrighe per attizzar le risse.
22 The words of a talebearer are as it were simple, but they reach to the innermost parts of the belly.	22 Le parole del maldicente paiono cose delle più lievi, ma s'insinuano sino al fondo delle viscere.
23 Swelling lips joined with a corrupt heart, are like an earthen vessel adorned with silver dross.	23 Come chi vuole inverniciare un vaso di terracotta con argentone, così chi unisce labbra riboccanti d'affetto a tristo cuore.
24 An enemy is known by his lips, when in his heart he entertaineth deceit.	24 Dal suo parlare si conosce il nemico, quando in cuor suo ha progettato l'inganno.
25 When he shall speak low, trust him not: because there are seven mischiefs in his heart.	25 Quando fa la voce sommessa non credergli, poichè sette scelleratezze sono nel suo cuore.
26 He that covereth hatred deceitfully, his malice shall be laid open in the public assembly.	26 Chi nasconde dolosamente il suo odio, vedrà la sua malizia svelata nell'assemblea.
27 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him.	27 Chi scava la fossa ci casca dentro, e la pietra ritorna su chi l'ha rotata.
28 A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin.	28 La lingua bugiarda non ama la schiettezza e la bocca adulatrice prepara i precipizi.
