Lettera a Filemone 1

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 PAOLO, prigione di Gesù Cristo, e il fratello Timoteo, a Filemone, nostro diletto, e compagno d’opera;	1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,
2 ed alla diletta Appia, e ad Archippo, nostro compagno di milizia, ed alla chiesa che è in casa tua;	2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.
3 grazia a voi e pace, da Dio Padre nostro, e dal Signor Gesù Cristo.	3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Io rendo grazie all’Iddio mio, facendo sempre di te memoria nelle mie orazioni;	4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,
5 udendo la tua carità, e la fede che tu hai inverso il Signore Gesù, e inverso tutti i santi;	5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.
6 acciocchè la comunione della tua fede sia efficace, col far riconoscere tutto il bene che è in voi, inverso Cristo Gesù.	6 I pray that your fel owship in faith may come to expression in ful knowledge of all the good we can dofor Christ.
7 Perciocchè noi abbiamo grande allegrezza e consolazione della tua carità; poichè le viscere dei santi siano state per te ricreate, fratello	7 I have received much joy and encouragement by your love; you have set the hearts of God's holypeople at rest.
8 PERCIÒ, benchè io abbia molta libertà in Cristo, di comandarti ciò che è del dovere;	8 Therefore, although in Christ I have no hesitations about telling you what your duty is,
9 pur nondimeno, più tosto ti prego per carità così come sono, Paolo, vecchio, ed al presente ancora prigione di Gesù Cristo;	9 I am rather appealing to your love, being what I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner ofChrist Jesus.
10 ti prego, dico, per lo mio figliuolo Onesimo, il quale io ho generato ne’ miei legami.	10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.
11 Il quale già ti fu disutile, ma ora è utile a te ed a me.	11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.
12 Il quale io ho rimandato; or tu accoglilo, cioè, le mie viscere.	12 I am sending him back to you -- that is to say, sending you my own heart.
13 Io lo voleva ritenere appresso di me, acciocchè in vece tua mi ministrasse nei legami dell’evangelo;	13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.
14 ma non ho voluto far nulla senza il tuo parere; acciocchè il tuo beneficio non fosse come per necessità, ma di spontanea volontà.	14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.
15 Perciocchè, forse per questa cagione egli si è dipartito da te per un breve tempo, acciocchè tu lo ricoveri in perpetuo;	15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,
16 non più come servo, ma da più di servo, come caro fratello, a me sommamente; ora, quanto più a te, ed in carne, e nel Signore?	16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.
17 Se dunque tu mi tieni per consorte, accoglilo come me stesso.	17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;
18 Che se ti ha fatto alcun torto, o ti deve cosa alcuna, scrivilo a mia ragione.	18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.
19 Io Paolo ho scritto questo di man propria, io lo pagherò, per non dirti che tu mi devi più di ciò, cioè te stesso.	19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!
20 Deh! fratello, fammi pro in ciò nel Signore; ricrea le mie viscere nel Signore.	20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.
21 Io ti ho scritto, confidandomi della tua ubbidienza, sapendo che tu farai eziandio sopra ciò che io dico.	21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.
22 OR apparecchiami insieme ancora albergo; perciocchè io spero che per le vostre orazioni vi sarò donato.	22 There is another thing: wil you get a place ready for me to stay in? I am hoping through your prayersto be restored to you.
23 Epafra, prigione meco in Cristo Gesù,	23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me in Christ Jesus, sends his greetings;
