1 Corintios 14

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Procuren alcanzar ese amor, y aspiren también a los dones espirituales, sobre todo al de la profecía.	1 Make love your aim; but be eager, too, for spiritual gifts, and especial y for prophesying.
2 Porque aquel que habla un lenguaje incomprensible no se dirige a los hombres sino a Dios, y nadie le entiende: dice en éxtasis cosas misteriosas.	2 Those who speak in a tongue speak to God, but not to other people, because nobody understandsthem; they are speaking in the Spirit and the meaning is hidden.
3 En cambio, el que profetiza habla a los hombres para edificarlos, exhortarlos y reconfortarlos.	3 On the other hand, someone who prophesies speaks to other people, building them up and givingthem encouragement and reassurance.
4 El que habla un lenguaje incomprensible se edifica a sí mismo, pero el que profetiza edifica a la comunidad.	4 Those who speak in a tongue may build themselves up, but those who prophesy build up thecommunity.
5 Mi deseo es que todos ustedes tengan el don de lenguas, pero prefiero que profeticen, porque el que profetiza aventaja al que habla un lenguaje incomprensible. A no ser que este último también interprete ese lenguaje, para edificación de la comunidad.	5 While I should like you all to speak in tongues, I would much rather you could prophesy; since thosewho prophesy are of greater importance than those who speak in tongues, unless they can interpret what theysay so that the church is built up by it.
6 Supongamos, hermanos, que yo fuera a verlos y les hablara en esa forma, ¿de qué les serviría, si mi palabra no les aportara ni revelación, ni ciencia, ni profecía, ni enseñanza?	6 Now suppose, brothers, I come to you and speak in tongues, what good shal I do you if my speakingprovides no revelation or knowledge or prophecy or instruction?
7 Sucedería lo mismo que con los instrumentos de música, por ejemplo, la flauta o la cítara. Si las notas no suenan distintamente, nadie reconoce lo que se está ejecutando.	7 It is the same with an inanimate musical instrument. If it does not make any distinction between notes,how can one recognise what is being played on flute or lyre?
8 Y si la trompeta emite un sonido confuso, ¿quién se lanzará al combate?	8 If the trumpet sounds a cal which is unrecognisable, who is going to get ready for the attack?
9 Así les pasa a ustedes: si no hablan de manera inteligible, ¿cómo se comprenderá lo que dicen? Estarían hablando en vano.	9 It is the same with you: if you do not use your tongue to produce speech that can be readilyunderstood, how can anyone know what you are saying? You will be talking to the air.
10 No sé cuántos idiomas diversos hay en el mundo, y cada uno tienen sus propias palabras.	10 However many the languages used in the world, al of them use sound;
11 Pero si ignoro el sentido de las palabras, seré como un extranjero para el que me habla y él lo será para mí.	11 but if I do not understand the meaning of the sound, I am a barbarian to the person who is speaking,and the speaker is a barbarian to me.
12 Así, ya que ustedes ambicionan tanto los dones espirituales, procuren abundar en aquellos que sirven para edificación de la comunidad.	12 So with you, as you are eager to have spiritual powers, aim to be rich in those which build up thecommunity.
13 Por esta razón, el que habla un lenguaje incomprensible debe orar pidiendo el don de interpretarlo.	13 That is why anybody who speaks in a tongue must pray that he may be given the interpretation.
14 Porque si oro en un lenguaje incomprensible, mi espíritu ora, pero mi inteligencia no saca ningún provecho.	14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit may be praying but my mind derives no fruit from it.
15 ¿Qué debo hacer entonces? Orar con el espíritu y también con la inteligencia, cantar himnos con el espíritu y también con la inteligencia.	15 What then? I shal pray with the spirit, but I shall pray with the mind as wel : I shall sing praises withthe spirit and I shal sing praises with the mind as well.
16 Si bendices a Dios solamente con el espíritu, ¿cómo podrá el no iniciado decir «Amén» a tu acción de gracias, ya que no entienden lo que estás diciendo?	16 Otherwise, if you say your blessing only with the spirit, how is the uninitiated person going to answer'Amen' to your thanksgiving, without understanding what you are saying?
17 Sin duda, tu acción de gracias es excelente, pero eso no sirve de edificación para el otro.	17 You may be making your thanksgiving wel , but the other person is not built up at al .
18 Yo doy gracias a Dios porque tengo el don de lenguas más que todos ustedes.	18 I thank God that I speak with tongues more than any of you;
19 Sin embargo, cuando estoy en la asamblea prefiero decir cinco palabras inteligibles, para instruir a los demás, que diez mil en un lenguaje incomprensible.	19 al the same, when I am in the assembly I would rather say five words with my mind, to instructothers as wel , than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Hermanos, no sean como niños para juzgar; séanlo para la malicia, pero juzguen como personas maduras.	20 Brothers, do not remain children in your thinking; infants in wickedness-agreed, but in your thinkinggrown-ups.
21 En la Ley está escrito: Yo hablaré a este pueblo en lenguas extrañas y por boca de extranjeros; con todo, ni aun así me escucharán, dice el Señor.	21 It says in the written Law: In strange tongues and in a foreign language I wil talk to this nation, andeven so they will refuse to listen, says the Lord.
22 Esto quiere decir que el don de lenguas es un signo, no para los que creen, sino para los que se niegan a creer; la profecía, en cambio, es para los que tienen fe.	22 So then, strange languages are significant not for believers, but for unbelievers; whereas on theother hand, prophesying is not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Por otra parte, si al reunirse la asamblea, todos se ponen a hablar en un lenguaje incomprensible y entran algunos que no están iniciados o no son creyentes, seguramente pensarán que ustedes están locos.	23 Suppose that, if the whole congregation were meeting and al of them speaking in tongues, andsome uninitiated people or unbelievers were to come in, don't you think they would say that you were all raving?
24 En cambio, si todos profetizan y entra alguno de esos hombres, todos podrán convencerlo y examinarlo.	24 But if you were al prophesying when an unbeliever or someone uninitiated came in, he would findhimself put to the test by al and judged by al
25 Así quedarán manifiestos los secretos de su corazón, y él, cayendo de rodillas, adorará a Dios y proclamará que Dios está realmente entre ustedes.	25 and the secrets of his heart revealed; and so he would fal down on his face and worship God,declaring that God is indeed among you.
26 Hermanos, ¿qué conclusión sacaremos de todo esto? Cuando se reúnen, uno puede cantar salmos, otro enseñar, o transmitir una revelación, o pronunciar un discurso en un lenguaje incomprensible, o dar la interpretación del mismo. Que todo sirva para la edificación común.	26 Then what should it be like, brothers? When you come together each of you brings a psalm or someinstruction or a revelation, or speaks in a tongue or gives an interpretation. Let al these things be done in a waythat wil build up the community.
27 ¿Se tiene el don de lenguas? Que hablen dos, o a lo sumo tres, y por turno, y que alguien interprete.	27 If there are to be any people speaking in a tongue, then let there be only two, or at the most three,and those one at a time, and let one of these interpret.
28 Si no hay intérprete, que se callen y que cada uno hable consigo mismo y con Dios.	28 If there is no interpreter, then let each of them be quiet in the assembly, and speak only to himselfand God.
29 Con respecto a los profetas, que hablen dos o tres y que los demás juzguen lo que ellos dicen.	29 Let two prophets, or three, speak while the rest weigh their words;
30 Si algún otro asistente recibe una revelación, que se calle el que está hablando.	30 and if a revelation comes to someone else who is sitting by, the speaker should stop speaking.
31 Así todos tendrán oportunidad de profetizar, uno por uno, para que todos sean instruidos y animados.	31 You can al prophesy, but one at a time, then al wil learn something and al receive encouragement.
32 Los que tienen el don de profecía deben ser capaces de controlar su inspiración,	32 The prophetic spirit is to be under the prophets' control,
33 porque Dios quiere la paz y no el desorden. Como en todas las Iglesias de los santos,	33 for God is a God not of disorder but of peace. As in al the churches of God's holy people,
34 que las mujeres permanezcan calladas durante las asambleas: a ellas no les está permitido hablar. Que se sometan, como lo manda la Ley.	34 women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: theirs is asubordinate part, as the Law itself says.
35 Si necesitan alguna aclaración, que le pregunten al marido en su casa, porque no está bien que la mujer hable en las asambleas.	35 If there is anything they want to know, they should ask their husbands at home: it is shameful for awoman to speak in the assembly.
36 ¿Acaso la Palabra de Dios ha salido de ustedes o ustedes son los únicos que la han recibido?	36 Do you real y think that you are the source of the word of God? Or that you are the only people towhom it has come?
37 Si alguien se tiene por profeta o se cree inspirado por el Espíritu, reconozca en esto que les escribo un mandato del Señor,	37 Anyone who claims to be a prophet, or to have any spiritual powers must recognise that what I amwriting to you is a commandment from the Lord.
38 y si alguien no lo reconoce como tal, es porque Dios no lo ha reconocido a él.	38 If anyone does not recognise this, it is because that person is not recognised himself.
39 En conclusión, hermanos, aspiren al don de la profecía y no impidan que se hable en un lenguaje incomprensible.	39 So, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not suppress the gift of speaking in tongues.
40 Pero todo debe hacerse con decoro y ordenadamente.	40 But make sure that everything is done in a proper and orderly fashion.
