| 1 Todo o que crê que Jesus é Cristo, nasceu de Deus, E todo o que ama aquele que gerou, ama também aquele que nasceu dele. | 1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and whoever loves the father loves the son. |
| 2 Nisto conhecemos que amamos os filhos de Deus, se amamos a Deus e guardamos os seus mandamentos. | 2 In this way we know that we love God's children, when we love God and keep his commandments. |
| 3 Efetivamente, o amor de Deus consiste em guardarmos os seus mandamentos, mandamentos que não são custosos. | 3 This is what the love of God is: keeping his commandments. Nor are his commandments burdensome, |
| 4 Tudo o que nasceu de Deus, vence o mundo; a vitória que venceu o mundo é a nossa fé. | 4 because every child of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world --our faith. |
| 5 Quem é que vence o mundo, senão aquele que crê que Jesus é o Filho de Deus (e procede segundo esta fé) ? | 5 Who can overcome the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? |
| 6 Este Jesus Cristo é aquele que veio pela água e pelo sangue; não com água somente, mas com água e com sangue. E o Espírito é o que dá testemunho, porque o Espírito é a verdade. | 6 He it is who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with water alone but with water and blood, andit is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is Truth. |
| 7 Com efeito, são três os que dão testemunho: | 7 So there are three witnesses, |
| 8 o Espírito, a água e o sangue (que derramou), e estes três estão de acordo. | 8 the Spirit, water and blood; and the three of them coincide. |
| 9 Se admitimos o testemunho dos homens, o testemunho de Deus é maior; ora este testemunho de Deus é o que ele deu de seu Filho. | 9 If we accept the testimony of human witnesses, God's testimony is greater, for this is God's testimonywhich he gave about his Son. |
| 10 O que crê no Filho de Deus, tem em si este testemunho. O que não crê em Deus, faz dele um mentiroso, porque não crê no testemunho que Deus deu de seu Filho. | 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him, and whoever does not believe ismaking God a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. |
| 11 E esse testemunho é que Deus (dando-nos seu Filho ) deu-nos a vida eterna e que esta vida está em seu Filho. | 11 This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
| 12 Aquele que tem o Filho, tem a vida; aquele que não tem o Filho de Deus, não tem a vida. | 12 Whoever has the Son has life, and whoever has not the Son of God has not life. |
| 13 Estas coisas vos escrevo, para que saibais que tendes a vida eterna, vós, que credes no nome do Filho de Deus. | 13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that youhave eternal life. |
| 14 Esta é a confiança que temos nele: que qualquer coisa que lhe pedimos, conforme à sua vontade, ele nos ouve. | 14 Our fearlessness towards him consists in this, that if we ask anything in accordance with his wil hehears us. |
| 15 Sabemos que nos ouve em tudo quanto Ihe pedimos; sabemos que obtemos o que lhe tivermos pedido. | 15 And if we know that he listens to whatever we ask him, we know that we already possess whatever wehave asked of him. |
| 16 O que sabe que seu irmão comete um pecado, que não é de morte, ore (por ele), e Deus lhe dará a vida — falo daqueles cujo pecado não conduz à morte. Há um pecado que conduz à morte; não digo que rogue alguém por ele (com tanta confiança de ser ouvido). | 16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that is not a deadly sin, he has only to pray, and God wil givelife to this brother -- provided that it is not a deadly sin. There is sin that leads to death and I am not saying youmust pray about that. |
| 17 Toda a iniquidade é pecado, e há pecado que não conduz à morte. | 17 Every kind of wickedness is sin, but not al sin leads to death. |
| 18 Sabemos que todo aquele que nasceu de Deus, não peca: (Jesus) o gerado de Deus o guarda, e o maligno não lhe toca. | 18 We are wel aware that no one who is a child of God sins, because he who was born from Godprotects him, and the Evil One has no hold over him. |
| 19 Sabemos que somos de Deus, e que todo o mundo está sob o (jugo do espirito) maligno. | 19 We are wel aware that we are from God, and the whole world is in the power of the Evil One. |
| 20 Mais sabemos que veio o Filho de Deus e que nos deu entendimento para que conheçamos o Verdadeiro (Deus), Ora nós estamos no Verdadeiro, em seu Filho Jesus Cristo. Este é o Verdadeiro Deus e a vida eterna. | 20 We are wel aware also that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that wemay know the One who is true. We are in the One who is true as we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the trueGod and this is eternal life. Children, be on your guard against false gods. |
