| 2 a Timóteo, amado filho na fé: graça, misericórdia e paz, da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo Nosso Senhor, | 2 Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. |
| 3 Recomendei-te que ficasses em Éfeso, quando parti para a Macedónia, para que admoestasses alguns, que não ensinassem doutrina diversa (da que tem sido ensinada por nós), | 3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, |
| 4 nem se ocupassem em fábulas e genealogias intermináveis, as quais servem mais para questões do que para favorecer o plano de Deus, que se funda na fé. | 4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. |
| 5 O fim deste preceito é a caridade nascida de um coração puro, de uma boa consciência e de uma fé não fingida. | 5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: |
| 6 Apartando-se alguns destas coisas, entregaram-se a discursos vãos, | 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; |
| 7 querendo ser doutores da lei, não sabendo nem o que dizem nem o que afirmam. | 7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. |
| 8 Nós sabemos (também como eles) que a lei é boa, contanto que se use dela legitimamente, | 8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; |
| 9 não ignorando que a lei não foi feita para o justo, mas para os injustos e desobedientes, para os ímpios e pecadores, para os sacrílegos e profanadores, para os parricidas e matricidas, para os homicidas, | 9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, |
| 10 para os fornicadores, sodomitas, traficantes de homens, para os mentirosos e perjuros, e para tudo o que vai contra a sã doutrina. | 10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; |
| 11 Assim ensina o Evangelho da glória de Deus bem-aventurado, o qual me foi confiado. | 11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. |
| 12 Dou graças aquele que me confortou, a Jesus Cristo Nosso Senhor, porque me julgou fiel, pondo-me no ministério, | 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; |
| 13 a mim que fui antes blasfemo, perseguidor e injuriador; alcancei, porém, a misericórdia de Deus, porque o fiz por ignorância, sendo ainda incrédulo. | 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. |
| 14 A graça de Nosso Senhor superabundou com a fé e com a caridade, que há em Jesus Cristo. | 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 15 Palavra segura e digna de toda aceitação é esta: Jesus Cristo veio a este mundo salvar os pecadores, dos quais sou o primeiro. | 15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. |
| 16 Mas alcancei misericórdia, para que em mim, sendo o primeiro, mostrasse Jesus Cristo toda a sua longanimidade, para exemplo dos que hão-de crer nele para (alcançar) a vida eterna. | 16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. |
| 17 Ao rei dos séculos imortal, invisível, ao Deus único, honra e glória pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém. | 17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
| 18 Tal é a recomendação que te faço, meu filho Timóteo, segundo as profecias feitas precedentemente a teu respeito, a fim de que, segundo elas, combatas o bom combate, | 18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; |
| 19 conservando a fé e a boa consciência. Por se terem afastado dela, alguns naufragaram na fé; | 19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: |
| 20 desse número são Himeneu e Alexandre, os quais entreguei a Satanás, para que aprendam a não blasfemar. | 20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. |
