| 1 E a vós (deu a vida espiritual), quando estáveis mortos pelos vossos delitos e pecados, | 1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins |
| 2 nos quais andastes outrora, segundo o costume deste mundo, segundo o príncipe que exerce o poder sobre o ar, o espírito que agora opera nos filhos da desobediência, | 2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel. |
| 3 entre os quais também todos nós vivíamos outrora, segundo os desejos da nossa carne, fazendo a vontade da carne e dos apetites, e éramos por natureza filhos da ira, como todos os outros. | 3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world. |
| 4 Mas Deus, que é rico em misericórdia, pela extrema caridade, com que nos amou, | 4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us, |
| 5 estando nós mortos pelos pecados, convivificou-nos em Cristo, (por cuja graça fostes salvos). | 5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved- |
| 6 Com ele nos ressuscitou (para uma vida nova) e nos fez sentar nos céus com Jesus Cristo, | 6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus. |
| 7 a fim de mostrar aos séculos futuros as abundantes riquezas da sua graça, por meio da sua bondade para conosco em Jesus Cristo. | 7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace. |
| 8 Porque pela graça fostes salvos, mediante a fé, e isto não (vem) de vós, porque é um dom de Deus; | 8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God; |
| 9 não (vem) das (vossas) obras (praticadas sem a sua graça), para que ninguém se glorie. | 9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit. |
| 10 Realmente somos obra sua, criados em Jesus Cristo para (fazer) boas obras, que Deus preparou para caminharmos nelas. | 10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life. |
| 11 Por isso lembrai-vos, vós, os gentios de origem, chamados incircuncidados pelos que se chamam circuncidados na sua carne por mão de homem, | 11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation, |
| 12 (lembrai-vos) que estáveis nesse tempo sem Cristo, separados da sociedade de Israel, estranhos às alianças, sem esperança da promessa e sem Deus neste mundo. | 12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God. |
| 13 Mas agora (que viveis espiritualmente) em Jesus Cristo, vós, que outrora estáveis longe, fostes aproximados pelo sangue de Cristo. | 13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ. |
| 14 Porque ele é a nossa paz, ele que de dois povos fez um só, destruindo a parede de inimizade que os separava, | 14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility, |
| 15 e abolindo na sua carne a lei com os seus mandamentos e prescrições, para formar em si mesmo dos dois um só homem novo, fazendo a paz, | 15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them, |
| 16 e para os reconciliar a ambos, tornados um só corpo, com Deus, por meio da cruz, destruindo a inimizade em si mesmo. | 16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility. |
| 17 E assim veio anunciar a paz a vós (gentios), que estáveis longe, e a paz aos (Judeus), que estavam perto, | 17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. |
| 18 porquanto é por ele que uns e outros temos acesso ao Pai mediante um mesmo Espírito. | 18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father. |
| 19 Vós, pois, já não sois hóspedes, nem adventícios, mas sois concidadãos dos santos e membros da família de Deus, | 19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household. |
| 20 edificados sobre o fundamento dos apóstolos e dos profetas, sendo o mesmo Jesus Cristo a principal pedra angular, | 20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone. |
| 21 sobre o qual todo o edifício (espiritual) bem ordenado se levanta para ser um templo santo no Senhor, | 21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord; |
| 22 sobre o qual vós sois também juntamente edificados para morada de Deus, mediante o Espírito (Santo). | 22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit. |
