| 1 Relativamente às carnes sacrificadas aos ídolos, sabemos que todos temos ciência. A ciência incha, mas a caridade edifica. | 1 Now concerning those things that are sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up; but charity edifieth. |
| 2 Se alguém se lisonjeia de saber alguma coisa, este ainda não conheceu de que modo se deve saber. | 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he hath not yet known as he ought to know. |
| 3 Mas, se alguém ama a Deus, esse é conhecido dele. | 3 But if any any love God, the same is known by him. |
| 4 Quanto, pois, a comer carnes imoladas aos ídolos, sabemos que o ídolo não é nada no mundo e que não há outro Deus, senão o Deus único. | 4 But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. |
| 5 De facto, ainda que haja alguns que se chamem deuses, ou no céu ou na terra (e assim sejam muitos os deuses e muitos os senhores), | 5 For although there be that are called gods, either in heaven or on earth (for there be gods many, and lords many); |
| 6 para nós, contudo, há um só Deus, o Pai, de quem provêm todas as coisas, e para quem existimos, e um só Senhor, Jesus Cristo, por quem todas as coisas foram feitas, e nós também. | 6 Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. |
| 7 Mas nem em todos há a ciência, porque alguns, conservando ainda o seu antigo modo de considerar o ídolo, comem como do sacrificado a ídolo, e a consciência destes, estando enferma, fica contaminada. | 7 But there is not knowledge in every one. For some until this present, with conscience of the idol: eat as a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. |
| 8 Um alimento não (é coisa que) nos torna recomendáveis a Deus, visto que, nem comendo, teremos a mais alguma coisa, nem teremos alguma coisa a menos, não comendo. | 8 But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more; nor, if we eat not, shall we have the less. |
| 9 Mas vede que esta liberdade que tendes não se torne ocasião de queda para os fracos. | 9 But take heed lest perhaps this your liberty become a stumblingblock to the weak. |
| 10 Com efeito, se algum te vir a ti, que tens ciência, estar à mesa no templo idolátrico, porventura, com a sua consciência, que está enferma, não se animará a comer da carne sacrificada aos ídolos (que julga ser impura)? | 10 For if a man see him that hath knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not his conscience, being weak, be emboldened to eat those things which are sacrificed to idols ? |
| 11 E pela tua ciência perecerá o irmão fraco, pelo qual morreu Cristo! | 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ hath died ? |
| 12 Deste modo, pecando contra os irmãos e ofendendo a sua débil consciência, pecais contra Cristo. | 12 Now when you sin thus against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. |
| 13 Pelo que, se um alimento serve de escândalo a meu irmão, jamais comerei carne, para não escandalizar o meu irmão. | 13 Wherefore, if meat scandalize my brother, I will never eat flesh, lest I should scandalize my brother. |
