| 1 Eu, pois, quando fui ter convosco, Irmãos, anunciar-vos o testemunho de Deus, não fui com sublimidade de estilo ou de sabedoria. | 1 When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. |
| 2 Porque julguei que não devia saber coisa alguma entre vós (para vos pregar) senão a Jesus Cristo, e Jesus Cristo crucificado. | 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. |
| 3 Estive entre vós com fraqueza, temor e grande tremor; | 3 And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; |
| 4 a minha conversação e a minha pregação não tinham nada da linguagem persuasiva da sabedoria, mas eram manifestação do Espírito e do poder (de Deus), | 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, |
| 5 para que a vossa fé se não baseie sobre a sabedoria dos homens, mas sobre o poder de Deus. | 5 that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. |
| 6 Não obstante, é a sabedoria que nós pregamos entre os perfeitos; não, porém, uma sabedoria deste século, nem dos príncipes deste século, que são destruídos, | 6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. |
| 7 mas pregamos a misteriosa sabedoria de Deus, que está encoberta, e que Deus predestinou antes dos séculos para nossa glória, | 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification. |
| 8 a qual nenhum dos príncipes deste século conheceu, porque, se a tivessem conhecido, nunca teriam crucificado o Senhor da glória. | 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. |
| 9 Mas, como está escrito: Nem o olho viu, nem o ouvido ouviu, nem entrou no coração do homem (Is. 64, 4), o que Deus preparou para aqueles que o amam; | 9 But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him," |
| 10 a nós, porém, Deus revelou-o por meio do seu Espírito, visto que o Espírito tudo penetra, mesmo as profundezas de Deus. | 10 God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. |
| 11 Com efeito, qual dos homens conhece as coisas que são do homem, senão o espírito do homem, que está nele? Assim, também, as coisas que são de Deus ninguém as conhece, senão o Espírito de Deus. | 11 For what person knows a man's thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. |
| 12 Ora nós não recebemos o espírito deste mundo, mas o Espírito que vem de Deus, para conhecermos as coisas que por Deus nos foram dadas, | 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. |
| 13 as quais também anunciamos, não com palavras doutas de humana sabedoria, mas com a doutrina do Espírito, exprimindo em termos espirituais as coisas espirituais. | 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit. |
| 14 O homem natural não percebe aquelas coisas que são do Espírito de Deus, porque, para ele, são uma estultícia, e não as pode entender, pois elas ponderam-se espiritualmente. | 14 The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. |
| 15 Porém o homem espiritual julga (bem) todas as coisas, e não é julgado por ninguém. | 15 The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. |
| 16 De fato, quem conheceu o pensamento do Senhor, para que o possa instruir (Is. 40, 13)? Nós, porém, temos o pensamento de Cristo. | 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ. |
