| 3 Depois que eu tiver ido e vos tiver preparado um lugar, virei novamente e tomar-vos-ei comigo, para que, onde eu estou, estejais vós também. | 3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am. |
| 4 E vós conheceis o caminho para ir onde eu vou. | 4 You know the way to the place where I am going. |
| 5 Tomé disse-lhe: "Senhor, nós não sabemos para onde vais; como podemos saber o caminho?" | 5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?' |
| 6 Jesus disse-lhe: "Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida; ninguém vai ao Pai senão por mim. | 6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. |
| 7 Se me conhecêsseis, também certamente conheceríeis meu Pai; mas desde agora o conheceis e já o vistes." | 7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him. |
| 8 Filipe disse-lhe: "Senhor, mostra-nos o Pai, e isso nos basta." | 8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him, |
| 9 Jesus disse-lhe: "Há tanto tempo que estou convosco, e ainda não me conheceste, Filipe? Quem me viu, viu também o Pai. Como dizes pois: Mostra-nos o Pai? | 9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"? |
| 10 Não credes que eu estou no Pai, e que o Pai está em mim? As palavras que vos digo, não as digo de mim mesmo. O Pai, que está em mim, esse é que faz as obras. | 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works. |
| 11 Crede em mim: eu estou no Pai, e o Pai está em mim. | 11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works. |
| 12 Crede-o ao menos por causa das mesmas obras. Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo, que aquele que crê em mim fará também as obras que eu faço. Fará outras ainda maiores, porque eu vou para o Pai. | 12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father. |
| 13 Tudo o que pedirdes em meu nome, eu o farei, para que o Pai seja glorificado no Filho. | 13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. |
| 14 Se me pedirdes alguma coisa em meu nome, eu a farei. | 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it. |
| 15 Se me amais, observareis os meus mandamentos; | 15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments. |
| 16 e eu rogarei ao Pai, e ele vos dará um outro Paráclito, para que fique eternamente convosco, | 16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever, |
| 17 o Espírito de verdade, a quem o mundo não pode receber, porque não o vê, nem o conhece; mas vós o conheceis, porque habita convosco e estará em vós. | 17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you. |
| 18 Não vos deixarei órfãos; voltarei a vós. | 18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you. |
| 19 Resta ainda um pouco, e depois já o mundo me não verá. Mas ver-me-eis vós, porque eu vivo, e vós vivereis. | 19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live. |
| 20 Naquele dia conhecereis que estou em meu Pai, e vós em mim, e eu em vós. | 20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. |
| 21 Aquele que retém os meus mandamentos e os guarda, esse é que me ama; e aquele que me ama, será amado por meu Pai, e eu o amarei, e me manifestarei a ele." | 21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.' |
| 22 Judas disse-lhe (não o Iscariotes): "Senhor, qual é a causa por que te hás-de manifestar a nós, e não ao mundo?" | 22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?' |
| 23 Jesus respondeu-lhe: "Se alguém me ama, guardará a minha palavra, e meu Pai o amará, e nós viremos a ele, e faremos nele a nossa morada. | 23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him. |
| 24 O que não me ama, não observa as minhas palavras. E a palavra que ouvistes, não é minha, mas do Pai, que me enviou. | 24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me. |
| 25 Disse-vos estas coisas, permanecendo convosco. | 25 I have said these things to you while still with you; |
| 26 Mas o Paráclito, o Espírito Santo, a quem o Pai enviará em meu nome, ele vos ensinará todas as coisas, e vos recordará tudo o que vos tenho dito. | 26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you. |
| 27 Deixo-vos a paz, dou-vos a minha paz; não vo-la dou, como a dá o mundo. Não se turbe o vosso coração, nem se assuste. | 27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. |
| 28 Ouviste que eu vos disse: Vou e voltarei a vós. Se vós me amásseis, certamente vos alegraríeis de eu ir para o Pai, porque o Pai é maior do que eu. | 28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. |
| 29 Eu vo-lo disse agora, antes que suceda, para que, quando suceder, acrediteis. | 29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe. |
| 30 Já não falarei muito convosco, porque vem o príncipe deste mundo. Ele não pode nada contra mim, | 30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me, |
| 31 mas é preciso que o mundo conheça que amo o Pai e que faço como ele me ordenou. Levantai-vos, vamo-nos daqui. | 31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go. |
