| 1 Tendo Jesus descido do monte, uma grande multidão o seguiu. | 1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him. |
| 2 E eis que, aproximando-se um leproso, se prostrou dizendo: "Senhor, se tu queres, podes curar-me". | 2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.' |
| 3 Jesus, estendendo a mão, tocou-o, dizendo-lhe: "Quero, sê curado." E logo ficou curado da sua lepra. | 3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once. |
| 4 E Jesus disse-lhe: "Vê , não o digas a ninguém, mas vai, mostra-te ao sacerdote, e faz a oferta que Moisés ordenou, em testemunho da tua cura." | 4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.' |
| 5 Tendo entrado em Cafarnaum, aproximou-se dele um centurião, e fez-lhe uma súplica, | 5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him. |
| 6 dizendo: "Senhor, o meu servo jaz em casa paralítico, e sofre muito." | 6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.' |
| 7 Jesus disse-lhe: "Eu irei e o curarei." | 7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.' |
| 8 Mas o centurião, respondeu: "Senhor, eu não sou digno que entres na minha casa; diz, porém, uma só palavra, e o meu servo será curado. | 8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured. |
| 9 Pois também eu sou um homem sujeito a outro, tendo soldados às minhas ordens, e digo a um: Vai, e ele vai; e a outro: Vem, e ele vem; e ao meu servo: Faz isto, e ele o faz." | 9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.' |
| 10 Jesus, ouvindo estas palavras, admirou-se, e disse para os que o seguiam : "Em verdade vos digo : Não achei fé tão grande em Israel. | 10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this. |
| 11 Digo-vos, pois, que virão muitos do Oriente e do Ocidente, e se sentarão com Abraão, Isaac e Jacob no reino dos céus, | 11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven; |
| 12 enquanto que os filhos do reino serão lançados nas trevas exteriores, onde haverá pranto e ranger de dentes." | 12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.' |
| 13 Então disse Jesus ao centurião: "Vai, seja-te feito conforme creste." E naquela mesma hora ficou curado o servo. | 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment. |
| 14 Tendo chegado Jesus a casa de Pedro, viu que a sogra dele estava de cama com febre; | 14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish. |
| 15 e tomou-a pela mão, e a febre a deixou, e ela levantou-se e pôs-se a servi-los. | 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. |
| 16 Pela tarde apresentaram-se muitos possessos do demônio, e ele com a sua palavra expulsou os espíritos (maus), e curou todos os enfermos; | 16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick. |
| 17 cumprindo-se deste modo o que foi anunciado pelo profeta Isaías, quando diz (Is. 53, 4): Ele mesmo tomou as nossas fraquezas, e carregou com as nossas enfermidades. | 17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases. |
| 18 Vendo-se Jesus rodeado por uma grande multidão, ordenou que passassem para a outra margem do lago. | 18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. |
| 19 E, aproximando-se um escriba, disse-lhe: Mestre, eu seguir-te-ei para onde quer que fores. | 19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.' |
| 20 Jesus disse-lhe: As raposas têm as (suas) covas, e as aves do céu os (seus) ninhos; porém, o Filho do homem não tem onde reclinar a cabeça." | 20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.' |
| 21 Um outro dos seus discípulos disse-lhe: "Senhor, deixa-me ir primeiro sepultar meu pai." | 21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.' |
| 22 Jesus, porém, respondeu-lhe: "Segue-me, e deixa que os mortos sepultem os seus mortos." | 22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.' |
| 23 Subindo para uma barca, o seguiram seus discípulos. | 23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples. |
| 24 E eis que se levantou no mar uma grande tempestade, de modo que as ondas alagavam a barca, Ele, entretanto, dormia. | 24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep. |
| 25 Aproximaram-se dele os discípulos, e acordaram-no, dizendo: "Senhor, salva-nos, que perecemos!" | 25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!' |
| 26 Jesus, porém, disse-lhes: "Porque temeis, homens de pouca fé?" Então, levantando-se, imperou aos ventos e ao mar, e seguiu-se uma grande bonança. | 26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. |
| 27 Eles admiraram-se, dizendo: "Quem é este, a quem obedecem até os ventos e o mar?" | 27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?' |
| 28 Quando Jesus chegou à outra margem do lago, à região dos Gadarenos, saíram-lhe ao encontro dois endemoninhados, que saíam dos sepulcros. Eram tão furiosos que ninguém ousava passar por aquele caminho. | 28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path. |
| 29 E puseram-se a gritar, dizendo: "Que tens tu connosco. Filho de Deus? Vieste aqui atormentar-nos antes do tempo?" | 29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?' |
| 30 Estava não longe deles uma vara de muitos porcos, que pastavam. | 30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding, |
| 31 Os demônios suplicaram a Jesus: "Se nos expulsas daqui, manda-nos para aquela vara de porcos." | 31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' |
| 32 Ele disse-lhes: "Ide" Eles, saindo, entraram nos porcos, e imediatamente toda a vara se precipitou com ímpeto no mar por um despenhadeiro; e morreram nas águas. | 32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water. |
| 33 Os pastores fugiram, e, indo à cidade, contaram tudo o que se tinha passado com os possessos do demônio. | 33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs. |
| 34 Então toda a cidade saiu ao encontro de Jesus, e, quando o viram, pediram-lhe que se retirasse do seu território. | 34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood. |
