| 1 Ouvi o que (me) diz o Senhor: Levanta-te (ó profeta), expõe o teu processo diante das montanhas, e ouçam as colinas a tua voz. | 1 Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice. |
| 2 Ouvi, montanhas e sólidos fundamentos da terra, o processo do Senhor, porque o Senhor quer entrar em juízo com o seu povo, vai pleitear com Israel. | 2 Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel. |
| 3 Povo meu, que é que te fiz, ou em que te fui molesto? Responde-me. | 3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me. |
| 4 Tirei-te da terra do Egipto, livrei-te da casa da escravidão e enviei diante de ti Moisés, Aarão e Maria. | 4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. |
| 5 Povo meu, peço-te que te lembres do desígnio (contra ti) de Balac, rei de Moab, e do que lhe respondeu Balaão, filho de Beor, (em teu favor, obrigado por mim); (lembra-te de como te protegi) desde Setim até Gálgala, para reconheceres as mercês do Senhor. | 5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD. |
| 6 Com que (ofertas) me apresentarei ao Senhor (responde o povo) e me prostrarei diante do Deus excelso? Oferecer-lhe porventura holocaustos, novilhos de um ano? | 6 Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? |
| 7 Porventura o Senhor receberá com agrado milhares de carneiros ou miriades de torrentes de azeite? Porventura sacrificar-lhe-ei pela minha maldade o meu filho primogênito, o fruto das minhas entranhas pelo pecado da minha alma? | 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? |
| 8 Já te foi mostrado, ó homem, (responde o profeta) o que te é bom, o que o Senhor requer de ti: que pratiques a justiça, que ames a bondade e que andes humildemente diante do teu Deus. | 8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? |
| 9 A voz do Senhor clama à cidade. É sabedoria (ó Deus) temer o teu nome. Ouve, tribo; ouve, assembleia da cidade! | 9 The LORD's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it. |
| 10 Ainda estão na casa do ímpio tesouros de iniquidade e um efa desfalcado e maldito! | 10 Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? |
| 11 Porventura poderei eu aprovar a balança injusta e o saquitel de pesos enganosos? | 11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? |
| 12 Visto que os ricos desta (cidade) estão cheios de iniquidades, os seus habitantes proferem a mentira e a sua língua é enganadora na sua boca, | 12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. |
| 13 por isso vou começar a ferir-te, a devastar-te, por causa dos teus pecados. | 13 Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins. |
| 14 Comerás e não te fartarás; a fome reinará no meio de ti; procurarás resguardar (os teus bens) mas não os salvarás, e os que salvares, eu os entregarei ao fio da espada. | 14 Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword. |
| 15 Semearás e não segarás; espremerás a azeitona e não terás azeite com que te ungir; (pisarás) os cachos e não lhes beberás o vinho. | 15 Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine. |
| 16 Observaste os preceitos (idolátricos) de Amri e todas as práticas da casa de Acab, seguiste os seus (maus) conselhos, para que eu te entregue á devastação, e os teus moradores (ó Jerusalém) ao escárnio, e a fim de que suporteis o opróbrio do meu povo. | 16 For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people. |
