| 2 Glorificarei o teu nome, porque te fizeste o meu auxílio e protector, | 2 for thou hast been my protector and helper and hast delivered my body from destruction and from the snare of a slanderous tongue, from lips that utter lies. Before those who stood by thou wast my helper |
| 3 livraste o meu corpo da perdição, do laço da língua iníqua e dos lábios dos forjadores da mentira; à vista dos que estavam contra mim, foste o meu defensor. | 3 and didst deliver me, in the greatness of thy mercy and of thy name, from the gnashings of teeth about to devour me, from the hand of those who sought my life, from the many afflictions that I endured, |
| 4 Livraste-me, segundo a grandeza da misericórdia do teu nome, dos que rugiam, preparados para me devorarem, das mãos dos que procuravam tirar-me a vida, do poder das tribulações que me assaltavam, | 4 from choking fire on every side and from the midst of fire which I did not kindle, |
| 5 from the depths of the belly of Hades, from an unclean tongue and lying words-- |
| 6 da violência da chama que me envolvia. — no melo do fogo (da perseguição) não me queimei — das profundas entranhas da morada dos mortos, da língua impura, da palavra de mentira, dum rei iníquo e da língua injusta. | 6 the slander of an unrighteous tongue to the king. My soul drew near to death, and my life was very near to Hades beneath. |
| 7 They surrounded me on every side, and there was no one to help me; I looked for the assistance of men, and there was none. |
| 8 A minha alma louvará o Senhor até à morte, | 8 Then I remembered thy mercy, O Lord, and thy work from of old, that thou dost deliver those who wait for thee and dost save them from the hand of their enemies. |
| 9 pois a minha vida estava prestes a cair nas profundezas da morada dos mortos. | 9 And I sent up my supplication from the earth, and prayed for deliverance from death. |
| 10 Cercaram-me de todas as partes, e não havia quem me ajudasse. Volvia os olhos em busca do socorro dos homens, e não apareciam. | 10 I appealed to the Lord, the Father of my lord, not to forsake me in the days of affliction, at the time when there is no help against the proud. |
| 11 Lembrei-me da tua misericórdia. Senhor, do que tens feito desde o princípio do mundo, | 11 I will praise thy name continually, and will sing praise with thanksgiving. My prayer was heard, |
| 12 porque livras os que esperam em ti. Senhor, porque os salvas das mãos das nações. | 12 for thou didst save me from destruction and rescue me from an evil plight. Therefore I will give thanks to thee and praise thee, and I will bless the name of the Lord. |
| 13 Tu exaltaste a minha habitação sobre a terra, e eu roguei-te quando vinha sobre mim a torrente de morte. | 13 While I was still young, before I went on my travels, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer. |
| 14 Invoquei o Senhor, pai do meu Senhor, para que me não abandonasse, no dia da minha tribulação, sem socorro, durante o domínio dos soberbos. | 14 Before the temple I asked for her, and I will search for her to the last. |
| 15 Louvarei incessantemente o teu nome, celebrá-lo-ei nas minhas acções de graças, pois foi atendida a minha oração. | 15 From blossom to ripening grape my heart delighted in her; my foot entered upon the straight path; from my youth I followed her steps. |
| 16 porque me livraste da perdição, me salvaste no tempo calamitoso. | 16 I inclined my ear a little and received her, and I found for myself much instruction. |
| 17 Por Isso eu te glorificarei, cantarei os teus louvores, e bem-direi o nome do Senhor. | 17 I made progress therein; to him who gives wisdom I will give glory. |
| 18 Quando eu ainda era jovem, antes de andar errante, busquei abertamente a sabedoria com a minha oração. | 18 For I resolved to live according to wisdom, and I was zealous for the good; and I shall never be put to shame. |
| 19 Diante do templo eu a pedia, e buscá-la-ei até ao fim da minha vida. Ela floresceu (em mim) como uva temporã; | 19 My soul grappled with wisdom, and in my conduct I was strict; I spread out my hands to the heavens, and lamented my ignorance of her. |
| 20 O meu coração alegrou-se nela; os meus pés andaram por caminho direito; desde a minha mocidade tenho ido em seguimento dela. | 20 I directed my soul to her, and through purification I found her. I gained understanding with her from the first, therefore I will not be forsaken. |
| 21 Apliquei um pouco o meu ouvido, e logo a percebi. Encontrei muita sabedoria em mim mesmo, e fiz nela grandes progressos. | 21 My heart was stirred to seek her, therefore I have gained a good possession. |
| 22 The Lord gave me a tongue as my reward, and I will praise him with it. |
| 23 Ao que me deu a sabedoria, dar-lhe-ei gloria. | 23 Draw near to me, you who are untaught, and lodge in my school. |
| 24 Resolvi-me a pô-la em prática; tive zelo do bem, e não me envergonharei. | 24 Why do you say you are lacking in these things, and why are your souls very thirsty? |
| 25 Lutou a minha alma por ela, conservei-me constante em a praticar. | 25 I opened my mouth and said, Get these things for yourselves without money. |
| 26 Levantei as minhas mãos ao alto, e chorei a loucura da minha alma. | 26 Put your neck under the yoke, and let your souls receive instruction; it is to be found close by. |
| 27 Dirigi para ela a minha alma, e encontrei-a. ao procurar conhecê-la. | 27 See with your eyes that I have labored little and found myself much rest. |
| 28 Possuí, graças a ela, o meu coração desde o princípio, e, por isso, não serei desamparado (por Deus). | 28 Get instruction with a large sum of silver, and you will gain by it much gold. |
| 29 As minhas entranhas comoveram-se em busca dela; por isso consegui um bem excelente. | 29 May your soul rejoice in his mercy, and may you not be put to shame when you praise him. |
| 30 O Senhor deu-me em recompensa uma língua (eloquente); com ela o louvarei. | 30 Do your work before the appointed time, and in God's time he will give you your reward. |
| 31 Aproximai-vos de mim, ó ignorantes, e reuni-vos na casa da instrução. | |
| 32 Por que tardais vós ainda? E que dizeis a isto? As vossas almas estão sequiosas em extremo. | |
| 33 Eu abri a minha boca e disse: Vinde buscá-la sem dinheiro. | |
| 34 submetei o vosso pescoço ao seu jugo, e receba a vossa alma a instrução, porque perto se pode encontrá-la. | |
| 35 Vede com os vossos olhos o pouco que trabalhei, e como adquiri muito descanso. | |
