| 2 Apaixonou-se de tal modo por ela que, por causa do seu amor, caiu doente, pois sendo ela virgem, parecia-lhe difícil fazer com ela coisa alguma contra a honestidade. | 2 He was in such straits over his sister Tamar that he became sick; since she was a virgin, Amnon thought it impossible to carry out his designs toward her. |
| 3 Tinha porém Amnon um (mau) amigo, homem muito sagaz, chamado Jonadab, filho de Semaa, irmão de Davide. | 3 Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, son of David's brother Shimeah, who was very clever. |
| 4 Este disse a Amnon: Como vais tu de dia para dia emagrecendo, ó filho do rei? Por que te não descobres tu comigo? Amnon disse-lhe: Eu amo Tamar, irmã do meu irmão (consanguineo) Absalão. | 4 He asked him, "Prince, why are you so dejected morning after morning? Why not tell me?" So Amnon said to him, "I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister." |
| 5 Respondeu-lhe Jonadab; Deita-te na tua cama e finge que estás doente; quando teu pai te vier visitar, dize-lhe: Peço-te que mandes vir aqui minha irmã Tamar, para que me dê de comer, e me prepare algum prato, que eu possa comer da sua mão. | 5 Then Jonadab replied, "Lie down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to visit you, say to him, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and encourage me to take food. If she prepares something appetizing in my presence, for me to see, I will eat it from her hand.'" |
| 6 Deitou-se, pois, Amnon na cama e começou a fingir-se doente. Tendo ido o rei visitá-lo, disse Amnon ao rei: Peço-te que mandes vir minha irmã Tamar, para que faça á minha vista dois pastéizinhos, que eu coma da sua mão. | 6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick. When the king came to visit him, Amnon said to the king, "Please let my sister Tamar come and prepare some fried cakes before my eyes, that I may take nourishment from her hand." |
| 7 Mandou Davide a casa de Tamar dizer-lhe; Vem a casa de teu irmão Amnon, e faze-lhe alguma coisa de comer. | 7 David then sent home a message to Tamar, "Please go to the house of your brother Amnon and prepare some nourishment for him." |

Tendo feito sair todos para fora, | 9 Then she took the pan and set out the cakes before him. But Amnon would not eat; he said, "Have everyone leave me." When they had all left him, |
| 10 Amnon disse a Tamar: Chega-me cá à alcova essa comida, para que eu a coma da tua mão. Tomou pois Tamar o que tinha cozido, e levou-o a seu irmão Amnon à alcova. | 10 Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the nourishment into the bedroom, that I may have it from your hand." So Tamar picked up the cakes she had prepared and brought them to her brother Amnon in the bedroom. |
| 11 Logo que ela lhe pôs diante o prato, pegou nela, e disse: Vem, minha irmã, deita-te comigo. | 11 But when she brought them to him to eat, he seized her and said to her, "Come! Lie with me, my sister!" |
| 12 Porém ela respondeu-lhe: Não, meu Irmão, não me faças esta violência, pois que isto não é lícito em Israel; não faças tal loucura. | 12 But she answered him, "No my brother! Do not shame me! That is an intolerable crime in Israel. Do not commit this insensate deed. |
| 13 Eu não poderei sofrer o meu opróbrio, e tu passarás em Israel por um insensato; mais vale que fales ao rei (para me tomar como esposa), e ele não me negará a ti. | 13 Where would I take my shame? And you would be a discredited man in Israel. So please, speak to the king; he will not keep me from you." |
| 14 Amnon não quis ceder a seus rogos, e, como era mais forte do que ela, violentou-a e desflorou-a. | 14 Not heeding her plea, he overpowered her; he shamed her and had relations with her. |
| 15 Amnon ganhou-lhe uma extrema aversão, de sorte que o ódio que concebeu contra ela excedia muito o amor que antes lhe tivera. Amnon disse-lhe: Levanta-te, e vai-te. | 15 Then Amnon conceived an intense hatred for her, which far surpassed the love he had had for her. "Get up and leave," he said to her. |

| 19 Tamar lançou cinza sobre a sua cabeça, rasgou a túnica talar e postas as mãos na cabeça, foi-se dali dando gritos. | 19 Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long tunic in which she was clothed. Then, putting her hands to her head, she went away crying loudly. |
| 20 Absalão, seu irmão, disse-lhe: Porventura teu irmão Amnon abusou de ti? Agora, porém, ó minha irmã, cala-te; ele é teu irmão; não se angustie o teu coração por isso. Ficou Tamar, desolada, em casa de seu irmão Absalão. | 20 Her brother Absalom said to her: "Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be still now, my sister; he is your brother. Do not take this affair to heart." But Tamar remained grief-stricken and forlorn in the house of her brother Absalom. |
| 21 O rei Davide, tendo ouvido estas coisas, afligiu-se muito, mas não quis contristar o ânimo de Amnon, seu filho, porque o amava por ser o seu primogênito. | 21 King David, who got word of the whole affair, became very angry. He did not, however, spark the resentment of his son Amnon, whom he favored because he was his first-born. |
| 22 Absalão não falou a Amnon nem mal nem bem, mas odiava-o, por ter violado sua irmã Tamar. | 22 Absalom, moreover, said nothing at all to Amnon, although he hated him for having shamed his sister Tamar. |
| 23 Dois anos depois aconteceu tosquiarem-se as ovelhas de Absalão em Baalhasor, que é junto de Efraim, e Absalão convidou todos os filhos do rei. | 23 After a period of two years, Absalom had shearers in Baalhazor near Ephraim, and he invited all the princes. |
| 24 E foi ter com o rei e disse-lhe: Eis que se tosquiam as ovelhas do teu servo; rogo, pois, que venha o rei com os seus criados a casa do seu servo. | 24 Absalom went to the king and said: "Your servant is having shearers. Please, your majesty, come with all your retainers to your servant." |
| 25 O rei disse a Absalão: Não, meu filho, não nos peças que vamos todos, e te sejamos pesados. Porém, Absalão instou, mas Davide não quis ir e deu-lhe a sua bênção. | 25 But the King said to Absalom, "No, my son, all of us should not go lest we be a burden to you." And though Absalom urged him, he refused to go and began to bid him good-bye. |
| 26 Absalão disse: Se tu não queres vir, suplico-te que ao menos venha conosco meu irmão Amnon. O rei disse-lhe: Não é necessário que ele vá contigo. | 26 Absalom then said, "If you will not come yourself, please let my brother Amnon come to us." The king asked him, "Why should he go to you?" |
| 27 Todavia Absalão instou mais, e Davide deixou ir com ele Amnon e todos os filhos do rei. Absalão tinha preparado um banquete, como um banquete real. | 27 At Absalom's urging, however, he sent Amnon and all the other princes with him. Absalom prepared a banquet fit for royalty. |
| 28 Ora Absalão tinha dado esta ordem aos seus criados: Estai atentos; quando Amnon estiver turvado pelo vinho, e eu vos der sinal, dai nele e matai-o; não tenhais medo, porque sou eu quem vo-lo manda; tende coragem, e sede homens fortes. | 28 But he had instructed his servants: "Now watch! When Amnon is merry with wine and I say to you, 'Kill Amnon,' put him to death. Do not be afraid, for it is I who order you to do it. Be resolute and act manfully." |
| 29 Os criados de Absalão fizeram a Amnon como Absalão lhes tinha ordenado. Todos os filhos do rei, levantando-se da mesa, montaram cada um na sua mula e fugiram. | 29 When the servants did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded, all the other princes rose, mounted their mules, and fled. |
| 30 Indo eles ainda no caminho, chegou aos ouvidos de Davide o rumor que Absalao matara todos os filhos do rei, sem que ficasse deles nem um só. | 30 While they were still on the road, a report reached David that Absalom had killed all the princes and that not one of them had survived. |
| 31 Levantou-se então o rei, rasgou os seus vestidos e lançou-se por terra; todos os criados, que lhe assistiam, rasgaram (também) os seus vestidos. | 31 The king stood up, rent his garments, and then lay on the ground. All his servants standing by him also rent their garments. |
| 32 Jonadab, filho de Semaa, irmão de Davide, tomando a palavra, disse: Não imagine o rei, meu senhor, que foram mortos todos os seus filhos; só morreu Amnon, porque assim o tinha resolvido fazer Absalão, desde o dia em que Amnon fez violência a sua irmã Tamar. | 32 But Jonadab, son of David's brother Shimeah, spoke up: "Let not my lord think that all the young princes have been killed! Amnon alone is dead, for Absalom was determined on this ever since Amnon shamed his sister Tamar. |
| 33 Não acredite o rei, meu senhor, que todos os filhos do rei foram mortos, pois só morreu Amnon. | 33 So let not my lord the king put faith in the report that all the princes are dead. Amnon alone is dead." |
| 34 Entretanto Absalão fugiu. Levantando os olhos, o criado que estava de sentinela, viu grande multidão de gente, que vinha por um caminho escuso ao lado do monte. | 34 Meanwhile, Absalom had taken flight. Then the servant on watch looked about and saw a large group coming down the slope from the direction of Bahurim. He came in and reported this, telling the king that he had seen some men coming down the mountainside from the direction of Bahurim. |
| 35 Jonadab disse ao rei; Eis lá vêm os filhos do rei; sucedeu como disse o teu servo. | 35 So Jonadab said to the king: "There! The princes have come. It is as your servant said." |
| 36 Acabando ele de falar, apareceram os filhos do rei, que entrando, levantaram a voz e choraram. O rei e todos os seus servos também choraram com pranto muito amargo. | 36 No sooner had he finished speaking than the princes came in, weeping aloud. The king, too, and all his servants wept very bitterly. |
| 37 Absalão fugiu para casa de Tolomai, filho de Amiud, rei de Bessur. Davide chorava o seu filho todos os dias. | 37 But Absalom, who had taken flight, went to Talmai, son of Ammihud, king of Geshur, |
| 38 Absalão, tendo fugido, acolheu-se a Gessur, onde esteve três anos. | 38 and stayed in Geshur for three years. |
| 39 E o rei Davide deixou de perseguir Absalão, porque já se tinha consolado da morte de Amnon. | 39 The king continued during all that time to mourn over his son; but his longing reached out for Absalom as he became reconciled to the death of Amnon. |
