| 1 O Senhor, pois, enviou Natan a Davide, e Natan, tendo chegado à sua presença, disse-lhe: Havia numa cidade (do teu reino) dois homens, um rico e outro pobre. | 1 Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And when he had come to him, he said to him: “Two men were in one city: one wealthy, and the other poor. |
| 2 O rico tinha ovelhas e bois em grande número. | 2 The wealthy man had very many sheep and oxen. |
| 3 O pobre, porém, não tinha coisa alguma, senão uma ovelhinha, que comprara e criara, e que tinha crescido em sua casa juntamente com seus filhos, comendo do seu pão, bebendo do seu mesmo copo e dormindo no seu regaço; e ele queria-lhe com o se fosse uma sua filha. | 3 But the poor man had nothing at all, except one little sheep, which he had bought and nourished. And she had grown up before him, together with his children, eating from his bread, and drinking from his cup, and sleeping in his bosom. And she was like a daughter to him. |
| 4 Tendo chegado um hóspede a casa do rico, não querendo este tocar nas suas ovelhas nem nos seus bois, para dar um banquete ao hóspede, que lhe tinha chegado, tomou a ovelha do pobre e preparou-a para dar de comer ao homem que tinha vindo a sua casa. | 4 But when a certain traveler had come to the wealthy man, neglecting to take from his own sheep and oxen, so that he might present a feast for that traveler, who had come to him, he took the sheep of the poor man, and he prepared a meal for the man who had come to him.” |
| 5 Davide, sumamente indignado contra tal homem, disse a Natan: Viva o Senhor, um homem que tal fez é digno de morte. | 5 Then David’s indignation was enraged exceedingly against that man, and he said to Nathan: “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this is a son of death. |
| 6 Pagará o quádruplo da ovelha, por ter feito dela o que fez, e não ter poupado (o pobre). | 6 He shall restore the sheep fourfold, because he did this word, and he did not take pity.” |
| 7 Então Natan disse a Davide: Tu és esse homem. Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Eu te ungi rei sobre Israel, e te livrei da mão de Saul, | 7 But Nathan said to David: “You are that man. Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘I anointed you as king over Israel, and I rescued you from the hand of Saul. |
| 8 dei-te a casa do teu senhor, pus ao teu dispor as suas mulheres, a casa de Israel e de Judá; se isto é pouco, juntar-te-ei ainda coisas muito maiores. | 8 And I gave the house of your lord to you, and the wives of your lord into your bosom. And I gave the house of Israel and of Judah to you. And as if these things were small, I shall add much greater things to you. |
| 9 Por que desprezaste, pois a palavra do Senhor, até cometeres o mal diante de meus olhos? Fizeste perecer à espada Urias Heteu, e tomaste para tua mulher a que era sua mulher, e mataste-lo com a espada dos filhos de Amon. | 9 Therefore, why have you despised the word of the Lord, so that you did evil in my sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword. And you have taken his wife as a wife for yourself. And you have put him to death with the sword of the sons of Ammon. |
| 10 Por esta razão não se apartará jamais a espada da tua casa, porque me desprezaste, tomando a mulher de Urias Heteu, para ser tua mulher. | 10 For this reason, the sword shall not withdraw from your house, even perpetually, because you have despised me, and you have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite, so that she may be your wife.’ |
| 11 Eis pois o que diz o Senhor: Eu suscitarei da tua mesma casa o mal sobre ti, tomarei as tuas mulheres, à tua vista, e dá-las-ei a um teu próximo, que dormirá com as tuas mulheres à luz deste sol. | 11 And so, thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up over you an evil from your own house. And I will take your wives away before your eyes, and I will give them to your neighbor. And he will sleep with your wives in the sight of this sun. |
| 12 Tu procedeste ocultamente, mas eu farei estas coisas à vista de todo o Israel, à luz do sol. | 12 For you acted secretly. But I will do this word in the sight of all of Israel, and in the sight of the sun.’ ” |
| 13 Davide disse a Natan; Pequei contra o Senhor. Natan respondeu a Davide: Também o Senhor perdoou o teu pecado (por ver o teu arrependimento): não morrerás. | 13 And David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David: “The Lord has also taken away your sin. You shall not die. |
| 14 Todavia, visto que tu, pelo que fizeste, deste lugar a que os inimigos do Senhor blasfemem, morrerá irremissivelmente o filho, que te nasceu (do adultério). | 14 Yet truly, because you have given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, because of this word, the son who was born to you: dying he shall die.” |
| 15 E Natan voltou para sua casa. O Senhor feriu (de enfermidade) o menino, que a mulher de Urias tinha dado à luz a Davide, e ele adoeceu gravemente. | 15 And Nathan returned to his own house. And the Lord struck the little one, whom the wife of Uriah had borne to David, and he was despaired of. |
| 16 Davide fez oração ao Senhor pelo menino, jejuou rigorosamente e, retirando-se à parte, prostrou-se sobre a terra. | 16 And David begged the Lord on behalf of the little one. And David fasted strictly, and entering alone, he lay upon the ground. |
| 17 Os anciães da sua casa vieram para o abrigar a levantar-se do chão, mas ele não o quis fazer, nem comeu com eles. | 17 Then the elders of his house came, urging him to rise up from the ground. And he was not willing, nor would he eat a meal with them. |
| 18 Ao sétimo dia, morreu o menino, e os servos de Davide não ousaram dizer-lhe que o menino tinha morrido, porque diziam: Quando o menino ainda vivia, nós falávamos-lhe, e ele não queria ouvir-nos; quanto mais se afligirá ele, se lhe dissermos que o menino morreu? | 18 Then, on the seventh day, it happened that the infant died. And the servants of David were afraid to report to him that the little one had died. For they said: “Behold, when the child was still alive, we were speaking to him, but he would not listen to our voice. How much more will he afflict himself, if we tell him that the boy is dead?” |
| 19 Davide, porém, vendo os seus servos a falar em segredo, compreendeu que o menino tinha morrido e disse-lhes: Porventura morreu o menino? Eles responderam-lhe: Morreu. | 19 But when David had seen his servants whispering, he realized that the infant had died. And he said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” And they responded to him, “He is dead.” |
| 20 Então Davide levantou-se do chão, lavou-se e ungiu-se, e, tendo mudado de roupa, entrou na casa do Senhor e o adorou (completamente resignado). (Depois) foi para sua casa e pediu que lhe pusessem de comer, e comeu. | 20 Therefore, David rose up from the ground. And he washed and anointed himself. And when he had changed his clothing, he entered the house of the Lord, and he worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and he asked them to place bread before him, and he ate. |
| 21 Os seus servos disseram-lhe: Como fizeste assim? Tu jejuaste e choraste pelo menino, quando ele ainda vivia, e, agora que morreu, levantaste-te e comeste? | 21 But his servants said to him: “What is this word that you have done? You fasted and were weeping, on behalf of the infant, while he was still alive. But when the boy was dead, you arose and ate bread.” |
| 22 (Davide) respondeu: Eu jejuei e chorei pelo menino enquanto vivo, porque dizia: Quem sabe se talvez o Senhor terá pena de mim e fará viver o menino? | 22 And he said: “While he was yet alive, I fasted and wept on behalf of the infant. For I said: Who knows if the Lord may perhaps give him to me, and let the infant live? |
| 23 Mas agora que ele morreu, por que hei-de jejuar? Porventura posso eu fazê-lo ainda viver? Eu Irei para junto dele, mas ele não voltará mais para junto de mim. | 23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Would I be able to bring him back anymore? Instead, I will go to him. Yet truly, he will not return to me.” |
| 24 Depois Davide consolou sua mulher Betsabé, foi dormir com ela, e ela gerou um filho, a que pôs o nome de Salomão. O Senhor o amou, | 24 And David consoled his wife Bathsheba. And entering to her, he slept with her. And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon, and the Lord loved him. |
| 25 e enviou o profeta Natan, o qual deu ao menino o nome de Amável ao Senhor, porque o Senhor o amava. | 25 And he sent, by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he called his name, Beloved of the Lord, because the Lord loved him. |
| 26 Entretanto Joab continuava a combater contra Raba dos Amonitas, e tomou a cidade real. | 26 And then Joab fought against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and he fought outside the royal city. |
| 27 e Joab enviou mensageiros a Davide, dizendo: Tenho combatido contra Raba, e a cidade das Águas está tomada. | 27 And Joab sent messengers to David, saying: “I have struggled against Rabbah, and so the City of Waters will soon be seized. |
| 28 Agora, junta o resto do povo, vem ao sítio da cidade e toma-a, para não suceder que, tendo eu destruído a cidade, se atribua ao meu nome a vitória. | 28 Now therefore, gather the remaining portion of the people together, and besiege the city and take it. Otherwise, when the city will have been laid waste by me, the victory will be ascribed to my name.” |
| 29 Juntou Davide todo o povo, marchou contra Raba e, depois de ter combatido, a tomou. | 29 And so David gathered together all the people, and he set out against Rabbah. And after he had fought, he seized it. |
| 30 Tirou da cabeça do rei dos Amonitas o seu diadema, que pesava um talento de ouro, enriquecido de pedras preciosíssimas, o qual foi posto na cabeça de Davide. E levou da cidade muitíssimos despojos. | 30 And he took the crown of their king from his head. The weight of it was a talent of gold, having the most precious gems. And it was placed upon the head of David. Moreover, he carried away the spoils of the city, which were very many. |
| 31 Quanto aos seus moradores deportou-os, empregando-os em serrar, em a fiar ferros, em serviços com machados e em trabalhos em fornos de cozer tijolo. Assim fez a todas as cidades dos Amonitas. Em seguida, Davide voltou com todo o exército para Jerusalém. | 31 Also, bringing forth its people, he sawed them, and he drove over them with iron wagons, and he divided them with knives, and he dragged them through brick kilns. So he did to all the citizens of the sons of Ammon. And David returned, with the entire army, to Jerusalem. |
