| 1 Entretanto disse Deus a Jacob: Levanta-te, vai para Betel, fica aí e erige um altar ao Deus que te apareceu quando fugias de Esaú, teu irmão. | 1 God said to Jacob: "Go up now to Bethel. Settle there and build an altar there to the God who appeared to you while you were fleeing from your brother Esau." |
| 2 Jacob, convocada toda a sua família, disse: Lançai fora os deuses estranhos que estão no meio de vós, purificai-vos e mudai os vossos vestidos. | 2 So Jacob told his family and all the others who were with him: "Get rid of the foreign gods that you have among you; then purify yourselves and put on fresh clothes. |
| 3 Levantai-vos e subamos para Betel, para erigirmos aí um altar a Deus. que me ouviu no dia da minha tribulação, e me acompanhou na minha jornada. | 3 We are now to go up to Bethel, and I will build an altar there to the God who answered me in my hour of distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone." |
| 4 Deram-lhe, pois, todos os deuses estranhos que tinham, e as arrecadas que tinham nas orelhas, e ele enterrou estas coisas debaixo de um terebinto, que está por detrás da cidade de Siquem. | 4 They therefore handed over to Jacob all the foreign gods in their possession and also the rings they had in their ears. |
| 5 Tendo estes partido, o terror de Deus invadiu todas as cidades circunvizinhas, e não se atreveram a perseguir os que se retiravam. | 5 Then, as they set out, a terror from God fell upon the towns round about, so that no one pursued the sons of Jacob. |
| 6 Chegou, portanto Jacob, com toda a sua gente, a Luza, por apelido Betel, a qual está (situada) na terra de Canaan. | 6 Thus Jacob and all the people who were with him arrived in Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan. |
| 7 Edificou ai um altar, e pôs àquele lugar o nome de casa de Deus, porque ali lhe apareceu Deus, quando fugia de seu irmão. | 7 There he built an altar and named the place Bethel, for it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother. |
| 8 No mesmo tempo morreu Débora, ama de Rebeca: foi ali sepultada debaixo de um carvalho ao pé de Betel, e aquele lugar foi chamado o Carvalho do pranto. | 8 Death came to Rebekah's nurse Deborah; she was buried under the oak below Bethel, and so it was called Allonbacuth. |
| 9 E Deus apareceu novamente a Jacob, depois que voltou da Mesopotâmia da Síria, e o abençoou | 9 On Jacob's arrival from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him. |
| 10 dizendo: Não te chamarás mais Jacob, mas teu nome será Israel. E chamou-O Israel. | 10 God said to him: "You whose name is Jacob shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." Thus he was named Israel. |
| 11 Disse-lhe: Eu sou o Deus omnipotente: cresce e multiplica-te; nações e multidão de povos nascerão de ti, de ti procederão reis. | 11 God also said to him: "I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, shall stem from you, and kings shall issue from your loins. |
| 12 Dar-te-ei a ti e à tua posteridade, depois de ti, a terra que dei a Abraão e a Isaac. | 12 The land I once gave to Abraham and Isaac I now give to you; And to your descendants after you will I give this land." |
| 13 Deus afastou-se do lugar em que lhe tinha falado e | 13 Then God departed from him. |
| 14 ai levantou Jacob um padrão de pedra, fazendo sobre ele libações e derramando óleo. | 14 On the site where God had spoken with him, Jacob set up a memorial stone, and upon it he made a libation and poured out oil. |
| 15 À esse lugar pôs o nome de Betel. | 15 Jacob named the site Bethel, because God had spoken with him there. |
| 16 Partindo dali, chegou, no tempo da primavera, a um lugar junto da estrada que conduz a Efrata, onde Raquel, tendo as dores do parto, | 16 Then they departed from Bethel; but while they still had some distance to go on the way to Ephrath, Rachel began to be in labor and to suffer great distress. |
| 17 e sendo o parto difícil começou a estar em perigo (de vida). Disse-lhe a parteira: Não temas, porque ainda terás este filho. | 17 When her pangs were most severe, her midwife said to her, "Have no fear! This time, too, you have a son." |
| 18 Estando prestes a render o espirito, sob a violência da dor, estando iminente a morte, pôs ao seu filho o nome de Benoni, isto é, filho da minha dor: o pai porém, chamou-o Benjamim, isto é, filho da mão direita. | 18 With her last breath--for she was at the point of death-she called him Ben-oni; his father, however, named him Benjamin. |
| 19 Raquel morreu e foi sepultada na estrada que conduz a Efrata, a qual é Belém. | 19 Thus Rachel died; and she was buried on the road to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). |
| 20 Jacob levantou um monumento sobre o seu sepulcro: este é o monumento do sepulcro de Raquel, que ainda hoje existe. | 20 Jacob set up a memorial stone on her grave, and the same monument marks Rachel's grave to this day. |
| 21 Saindo dali, levantou a sua tenda da outra parte da Torre do rebanho. | 21 Israel moved on and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-eder. |
| 22 Enquanto habitava naquela região foi Ruben e dormiu com Bala, mulher secundária de seu pai, e este veio a sabê-lo. Os filhos de Jacob eram doze. | 22 While Israel was encamped in that region, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine. When Israel heard of it, he was greatly offended. The sons of Jacob were now twelve. |

| 28 Todos os dias de Isaac foram cento e oitenta anos: | 28 The lifetime of Isaac was one hundred and eighty years; |
| 29 exausto (de forças) pela idade, morreu, e uniu-se ao seu povo, velho e cheio de dias. Esaú e Jacob, seus filhos, sepultaram-no. | 29 then he breathed his last. After a full life, he died as an old man and was taken to his kinsmen. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him. |
