Laus sapientiae. Sapientia laudabit animam suam et in Deo honorabitur et in medio populi sui gloriabitur | 1 Wisdom sings her own praises, before her own people she proclaims her glory; |
et in ecclesia Altissimi aperiet os suum et in conspectu virtutis illius gloriabitur | 2 In the assembly of the Most High she opens her mouth, in the presence of his hosts she declares her worth: |
et in medio populi sui exaltabitur et in plenitudine sancta admirabitur | 3 "From the mouth of the Most High I came forth, and mistlike covered the earth. |
et in multitudine electorum habebit laudem et inter benedictos benedicetur dicens: | 4 In the highest heavens did I dwell, my throne on a pillar of cloud. |
“ Ego ex ore Altissimi prodivi, primogenita ante omnem creaturam. | 5 The vault of heaven I compassed alone, through the deep abyss I wandered. |
Ego feci in caelis, ut oriretur lumen indeficiens, et sicut nebula texi omnem terram. | 6 Over waves of the sea, over all the land, over every people and nation I held sway. |
Ego in altissimis habitavi, et thronus meus in columna nubis. | 7 Among all these I sought a resting place; in whose inheritance should I abide? |
Gyrum caeli circuivi sola et in profundum abyssi ambulavi, | 8 "Then the Creator of all gave me his command, and he who formed me chose the spot for my tent, Saying, 'In Jacob make your dwelling, in Israel your inheritance.' |
in fluctibus maris et in omni terra steti | 9 Before all ages, in the beginning, he created me, and through all ages I shall not cease to be. |
et in omni populo et in omni gente primatum habui | 10 In the holy tent I ministered before him, and in Zion I fixed my abode. |
et omnium excellentium et humilium corda virtute calcavi. In his omnibus requiem quaesivi: cuius in hereditate morabor? | 11 Thus in the chosen city he has given me rest, in Jerusalem is my domain. |
Tunc praecepit et dixit mihi Creator omnium, et, qui creavit me, quietem dedit tabernaculo meo | 12 I have struck root among the glorious people, in the portion of the LORD, his heritage. |
et dixit mihi: “In Iacob inhabita et in Israel hereditare et in electis meis mitte radices”. | 13 "Like a cedar on Lebanon I am raised aloft, like a cypress on Mount Hermon, |
Ab initio ante saecula creata sum et usque ad futurum saeculum non desinam. | 14 Like a palm tree in En-gedi, like a rosebush in Jericho, Like a fair olive tree in the field, like a plane tree growing beside the water. |
Et in tabernaculo sancto coram ipso ministravi, et sic in Sion firmata sum et in civitate similiter dilecta requievi, et in Ierusalem potestas mea. | 15 Like cinnamon, or fragrant balm, or precious myrrh, I give forth perfume; Like galbanum and onycha and sweet spices, like the odor of incense in the holy place. |
Et radicavi in populo honorificato et in parte Domini, in hereditate illius, et in plenitudine sanctorum detentio mea. | 16 I spread out my branches like a terebinth, my branches so bright and so graceful. |
Quasi cedrus exaltata sum in Libano, et quasi cupressus in montibus Hermon. | 17 I bud forth delights like the vine, my blossoms become fruit fair and rich. |
Quasi palma exaltata sum in Engaddi, et quasi plantatio rosae in Iericho. | 18 Come to me, all you that yearn for me, and be filled with my fruits; |
Quasi oliva speciosa in campis, et quasi platanus exaltata sum iuxta aquam in plateis. | 19 You will remember me as sweeter than honey, better to have than the honeycomb. |
Sicut cinnamomum et balsamum aromatizans odorem dedi; quasi myrrha electa dedi suavitatem odoris. | 20 He who eats of me will hunger still, he who drinks of me will thirst for more; |
Et quasi storax et galbanus et ungula et gutta, et quasi libani vapor in tabernaculo. | 21 He who obeys me will not be put to shame, he who serves me will never fail." |
Ego quasi terebinthus extendi ramos meos, et rami mei rami honoris et gratiae. | 22 All this is true of the book of the Most High's covenant, the law which Moses commanded us as an inheritance for the community of Jacob. |
Ego quasi vitis germinavi gratiam, et flores mei fructus honoris et honestatis. | 23 It overflows, like the Pishon, with wisdom-- like the Tigris in the days of the new fruits. |
Ego mater pulchrae dilectionis et timoris et agnitionis et sanctae spei. | 24 It runs over, like the Euphrates, with understanding, like the Jordan at harvest time. |
In me gratia omnis viae et veritatis, in me omnis spes vitae et virtutis. | 25 It sparkles like the Nile with knowledge, like the Gihon at vintage time. |
Transite ad me, omnes, qui concupiscitis me, et a generationibus meis implemini. | 26 The first man never finished comprehending wisdom, nor will the last succeed in fathoming her. |
Doctrina enim mea super mel dulcis, et hereditas mea super mel et favum; | 27 For deeper than the sea are her thoughts; her counsels, than the great abyss. |
memoria mea in generationes saeculorum. | 28 Now I, like a rivulet from her stream, channeling the waters into a garden, |
Qui edunt me, adhuc esurient; et, qui bibunt me, adhuc sitient. | 29 Said to myself, "I will water my plants, my flower bed I will drench"; And suddenly this rivulet of mine became a river, then this stream of mine, a sea. |
Qui audit me, non confundetur; et, qui operantur in me, non peccabunt: | 30 Thus do I send my teachings forth shining like the dawn, to become known afar off. |
qui elucidant me, vitam aeternam habebunt ”. | 31 Thus do I pour out instruction like prophecy and bestow it on generations to come. |
Haec omnia liber testamenti Altissimi,
Ego sapientia effudi flumina,
Penetrabo omnes inferiores partes terrae et inspiciam omnes dormientes et illuminabo omnes sperantes in Domino;
adhuc doctrinam quasi prophetiam effundam et relinquam illam in generationes saeculorum et non desinam in progenies illorum usque in aevum sanctum.
Videte quoniam non soli mihi laboravi, sed omnibus exquirentibus illam. |
