BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El que vive eternamente lo creó todo por igual,	1 He who lives for ever has created the sum of things.
2 sólo el Señor será llamado justo.	2 The Lord alone wil be found just.

4 A nadie dio poder de proclamar sus obras, pues ¿quién podrá rastrear sus maravillas?	4 He has given no one the power to proclaim his works to the end, and who can fathom his magnificentdeeds?
5 El poder de su majestad, ¿quién lo calculará? ¿quién pretenderá contar sus misericordias?	5 Who can assess his magnificent strength, and who can go further and tel al of his mercies?
6 Nada hay que quitar, nada que añadir, y no se pueden rastrear las maravillas del Señor.	6 Nothing can be added to them, nothing subtracted, it is impossible to fathom the marvels of the Lord.
7 Cuando el hombre cree acabar, comienza entonces, cuando se para, se queda perplejo.	7 When someone finishes he is only beginning, and when he stops he is as puzzled as ever.
8 ¿Qué es el hombre? ¿para qué sirve? ¿cuál es su bien y cuál su mal?	8 What is a human being, what purpose does he serve? What is good and what is bad for him?
9 El número de los días del hombre mucho será si llega a los cien años.	9 The length of his life: a hundred years at most.
10 Como gota de agua del mar, como grano de arena, tan pocos son sus años frente a la eternidad.	10 Like a drop of water from the sea, or a grain of sand, such are these few years compared with eternity.
11 Por eso el Señor es paciente con ellos, y derrama sobre ellos su misericordia.	11 This is why the Lord is patient with them and pours out his mercy on them.
12 El ve y sabe que su fin es miserable, por eso multiplica su perdón.	12 He sees and recognises how wretched their end is, and so he makes his forgiveness the greater.
13 La misericordia del hombre sólo alcanza a su prójimo, la misericorida del Señor abarca a todo el mundo. El reprende, adoctrina y enseña, y hace volver, como un pastor, a su rebaño.	13 Human compassion extends to neighbours, but the Lord's compassion extends to everyone; rebuking,correcting and teaching, bringing them back as a shepherd brings his flock.
14 Tiene piedad de los que acogen la instrucción, y de los que se afanan por sus juicios.	14 He has compassion on those who accept correction, and who fervently search for his judgements.
15 Hijo, con tus beneficios no mezcles el reproche ni a tus regalos juntes palabras tristes.	15 My child, do not temper your favours with blame nor any of your gifts with words that hurt.
16 ¿No aplaca el rocío el viento ardiente? Así vale más la palabra que el regalo.	16 Does not dew relieve the heat? In the same way a word is worth more than a gift.
17 ¿No ves que la palabra es más que un buen presente? Pues el hombre dadivoso une los dos.	17 Why surely, a word is better than a good present, but a generous person is ready with both.
18 El necio aun sin dar hace afrenta, quema los ojos el don del envidioso.	18 A fool wil offer nothing but insult, and a grudging gift makes the eyes smart.
19 Antes de hablar infórmate, cuídate antes de estar enfermo.	19 Learn before you speak, take care of yourself before you fal ill.
20 Antes de juzgar examínate a ti mismo, y en el día de la visita encontrarás perdón.	20 Examine yourself before judgement comes, and on the day of visitation you will be acquitted.
21 Antes de estar enfermo humíllate, cuando peques muestra arrepentimiento.	21 Humble yourself before you fall il , repent as soon as the sin is committed.
22 Nada te impida cumplir tu voto en el momento dado, no aguardes hasta la muerte para justificarte.	22 Let nothing prevent your discharging a vow in good time, and do not wait till death to set matters right.
23 Antes de hacer un voto prepárate; no seas como el hombre que tienta al Señor.	23 Prepare yourself before making a vow, and do not be like someone who tempts the Lord.
24 Acuérdate de la ira de los últimos días, y del momento del castigo, cuando Dios vuelva su rostro.	24 Bear in mind the retribution of the last days, the time of vengeance when God averts his face.
25 En tiempo de abundancia recuerda el tiempo de hambre, la pobreza y la penuria en días de riqueza.	25 In a time of plenty remember times of famine, think of poverty and want when you are rich.
26 De la mañana a la tarde corre el tiempo, todo pasa presto delante del Señor.	26 The time slips by between dawn and dusk, everything passes quickly for the Lord.
27 El hombre sabio es precavido en todo, en la ocasión de pecar se anda con cuidado.	27 The wise wil be cautious in everything, in sinful times wil take care not to offend.
28 Todo hombre prudente conoce la sabiduría, al que la encuentra le da su parabién.	28 Every person of sense recognises wisdom, and wil respect anyone who has found her.
29 Los prudentes en palabras hacen sabiduría y prodigan los proverbios acertados.	29 Those who understand sayings have toiled for their wisdom and have poured out accurate maxims.
30 No vayas detrás de tus pasiones, tus deseos refrena.	30 Do not be governed by your passions, restrain your desires.
31 Si te consientes en todos los deseos, te harás la irrisión de tus enemigos.	31 If you al ow yourself to satisfy your desires, this wil make you the laughing-stock of your enemies.
32 No te complazcas en la buena vida, no te avengas a asociarte con ella.	32 Do not indulge in luxurious living, do not get involved in such society.
33 No te empobrezcas festejando con dinero prestado, cuando nada tienes en tu bolsa.	33 Do not beggar yourself by banqueting on credit when there is nothing in your pocket.
