1 וְאֵלֶּה הַבָּאִים אֶל־דָּוִיד לְצִיקְלַג עֹוד עָצוּר מִפְּנֵי שָׁאוּל בֶּן־קִישׁ וְהֵמָּה בַּגִּבֹּורִים עֹזְרֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 נֹשְׁקֵי קֶשֶׁת מַיְמִינִים וּמַשְׂמִאלִים בָּאֲבָנִים וּבַחִצִּים בַּקָּשֶׁת מֵאֲחֵי שָׁאוּל מִבִּנְיָמִן	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:
3 הָרֹאשׁ אֲחִיעֶזֶר וְיֹואָשׁ בְּנֵי הַשְּׁמָעָה הַגִּבְעָתִי [וִיזוּאֵל כ] (וִיזִיאֵל ק) וָפֶלֶט בְּנֵי עַזְמָוֶת וּבְרָכָה וְיֵהוּא הָעֲנְּתֹתִי	3 Ahiezer the leader, and Joash, sons of Hassemar of Gibeah, Jeziel and Peleth, sons of Azmaveth,Berachah and Jehu of Anathoth,
4 וְיִשְׁמַעְיָה הַגִּבְעֹונִי גִּבֹּור בַּשְּׁלֹשִׁים וְעַל־הַשְּׁלֹשִׁים	4 Ishmaiah of Gibeon, one of the champions in the Thirty and commander of the Thirty,
5 וְיִרְמְיָה וְיַחֲזִיאֵל וְיֹוחָנָן וְיֹוזָבָד הַגְּדֵרָתִי	5 Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan and Jozabed of Gederoth,
6 אֶלְעוּזַי וִירִימֹות וּבְעַלְיָה וּשְׁמַרְיָהוּ וּשְׁפַטְיָהוּ [הַחֲרִיפִי כ] (הַחֲרוּפִי׃ ק)	6 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah of Hariph,
7 אֶלְקָנָה וְיִשִּׁיָּהוּ וַעֲזַרְאֵל וְיֹועֶזֶר וְיָשָׁבְעָם הַקָּרְחִים	7 Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer and Jashobeam the Korahites,
8 וְיֹועֵאלָה וּזְבַדְיָה בְּנֵי יְרֹחָם מִן־הַגְּדֹור	8 Joelah, Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
9 וּמִן־הַגָּדִי נִבְדְּלוּ אֶל־דָּוִיד לַמְצַד מִדְבָּרָה גִּבֹּרֵי הַחַיִל אַנְשֵׁי צָבָא לַמִּלְחָמָה עֹרְכֵי צִנָּה וָרֹמַח וּפְנֵי אַרְיֵה פְּנֵיהֶם וְכִצְבָאיִם עַל־הֶהָרִים לְמַהֵר׃ ס	9 From the Gadites, some good, capable fighting men defected and came to David at the stronghold inthe desert -- al skil ed with shield and spear, fierce as lions and nimble as mountain gazel es.
10 עֵזֶר הָרֹאשׁ עֹבַדְיָה הַשֵּׁנִי אֱלִיאָב הַשְּׁלִשִׁי	10 Ezer was the leader, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
11 מִשְׁמַנָּה הָרְבִיעִי יִרְמְיָה הַחֲמִשִׁי	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 עַתַּי הַשִּׁשִּׁי אֱלִיאֵל הַשְּׁבִעִי	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 יֹוחָנָן הַשְּׁמִינִי אֶלְזָבָד הַתְּשִׁיעִי	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 יִרְמְיָהוּ הָעֲשִׂירִי ס מַכְבַּנַּי עַשְׁתֵּי עָשָׂר	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 אֵלֶּה מִבְּנֵי־גָד רָאשֵׁי הַצָּבָא אֶחָד לְמֵאָה הַקָּטָן וְהַגָּדֹול לְאָלֶף	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 אֵלֶּה הֵם אֲשֶׁר עָבְרוּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן בַּחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשֹׁון וְהוּא מְמַלֵּא עַל־כָּל־ [גִּדיֹתָיו כ] (גְּדֹותָיו ק) וַיַּבְרִיחוּ אֶת־כָּל־הָעֲמָקִים לַמִּזְרָח וְלַמַּעֲרָב׃ ס	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 וַיָּבֹאוּ מִן־בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן וִיהוּדָה עַד־לַמְצָד לְדָוִיד	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 וַיֵּצֵא דָוִיד לִפְנֵיהֶם וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם אִם־לְשָׁלֹום בָּאתֶם אֵלַי לְעָזְרֵנִי יִהְיֶה־לִּי עֲלֵיכֶם לֵבָב לְיָחַד וְאִם־לְרַמֹּותַנִי לְצָרַי בְּלֹא חָמָס בְּכַפַּי יֵרֶא אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֹותֵינוּ וְיֹוכַח׃ ס	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 וְרוּחַ לָבְשָׁה אֶת־עֲמָשַׂי רֹאשׁ [הַשְּׁלֹושִׁים כ] (הַשָּׁלִישִׁים ק) לְךָ דָוִיד וְעִמְּךָ בֶן־יִשַׁי שָׁלֹום ׀ שָׁלֹום לְךָ וְשָׁלֹום לְעֹזְרֶךָ כִּי עֲזָרְךָ אֱלֹהֶיךָ וַיְקַבְּלֵם דָּוִיד וַיִּתְּנֵם בְּרָאשֵׁי הַגְּדוּד׃ פ	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 וּמִמְּנַשֶּׁה נָפְלוּ עַל־דָּוִיד בְּבֹאֹו עִם־פְּלִשְׁתִּים עַל־שָׁאוּל לַמִּלְחָמָה וְלֹא עֲזָרֻם כִּי בְעֵצָה שִׁלְּחֻהוּ סַרְנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים לֵאמֹר בְּרָאשֵׁינוּ יִפֹּול אֶל־אֲדֹנָיו שָׁאוּל	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 בְּלֶכְתֹּו אֶל־צִיקְלַג נָפְלוּ עָלָיו ׀ מִמְּנַשֶּׁה עַדְנַח וְיֹוזָבָד וִידִיעֲאֵל וּמִיכָאֵל וְיֹוזָבָד וֶאֱלִיהוּא וְצִלְּתָי רָאשֵׁי הָאֲלָפִים אֲשֶׁר לִמְנַשֶּׁה	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 וְהֵמָּה עָזְרוּ עִם־דָּוִיד עַל־הַגְּדוּד כִּי־גִבֹּורֵי חַיִל כֻּלָּם וַיִּהְיוּ שָׂרִים בַּצָּבָא	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 כִּי לְעֶת־יֹום בְּיֹום יָבֹאוּ עַל־דָּוִיד לְעָזְרֹו עַד־לְמַחֲנֶה גָדֹול כְּמַחֲנֵה אֱלֹהִים׃ פ	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 וְאֵלֶּה מִסְפְּרֵי רָאשֵׁי הֶחָלוּץ לַצָּבָא בָּאוּ עַל־דָּוִיד חֶבְרֹונָה לְהָסֵב מַלְכוּת שָׁאוּל אֵלָיו כְּפִי יְהוָה׃ ס	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:
25 בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה נֹשְׂאֵי צִנָּה וָרֹמַח שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁמֹונֶה מֵאֹות חֲלוּצֵי צָבָא׃ ס	25 Judahites carrying shield and spear: six thousand eight hundred ful y armed warriors;
26 מִן־בְּנֵי שִׁמְעֹון גִּבֹּורֵי חַיִל לַצָּבָא שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וּמֵאָה׃ ס	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 מִן־בְּנֵי הַלֵּוִי אַרְבַּעַת אֲלָפִים וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות׃ ס	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 וִיהֹויָדָע הַנָּגִיד לְאַהֲרֹן וְעִמֹּו שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאֹות׃ ס	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 וְצָדֹוק נַעַר גִּבֹּור חָיִל וּבֵית־אָבִיו שָׂרִים עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 וּמִן־בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן אֲחֵי שָׁאוּל שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וְעַד־הֵנָּה מַרְבִּיתָם שֹׁמְרִים מִשְׁמֶרֶת בֵּית שָׁאוּל׃ ס	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 וּמִן־בְּנֵי אֶפְרַיִם עֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף וּשְׁמֹונֶה מֵאֹות גִּבֹּורֵי חַיִל אַנְשֵׁי שֵׁמֹות לְבֵית אֲבֹותָם׃ ס	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 וּמֵחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה שְׁמֹונָה עָשָׂר אָלֶף אֲשֶׁר נִקְּבוּ בְּשֵׁמֹות לָבֹוא לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת־דָּוִיד׃ ס	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 וּמִבְּנֵי יִשָּׂשכָר יֹודְעֵי בִינָה לַעִתִּים לָדַעַת מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה יִשְׂרָאֵל רָאשֵׁיהֶם מָאתַיִם וְכָל־אֲחֵיהֶם עַל־פִּיהֶם׃ ס	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 מִזְּבֻלוּן יֹוצְאֵי צָבָא עֹרְכֵי מִלְחָמָה בְּכָל־כְּלֵי מִלְחָמָה חֲמִשִּׁים אָלֶף וְלַעֲדֹר בְּלֹא־לֵב וָלֵב׃ ס	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 וּמִנַּפְתָּלִי שָׂרִים אָלֶף וְעִמָּהֶם בְּצִנָּה וַחֲנִית שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁבְעָה אָלֶף׃ ס	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 וּמִן־הַדָּנִי עֹרְכֵי מִלְחָמָה עֶשְׂרִים־וּשְׁמֹונָה אֶלֶף וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות׃ ס	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 וּמֵאָשֵׁר יֹוצְאֵי צָבָא לַעֲרֹךְ מִלְחָמָה אַרְבָּעִים אָלֶף׃ ס	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 וּמֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן מִן־הָראוּבֵנִי וְהַגָּדִי וַחֲצִי ׀ שֵׁבֶט מְנַשֶּׁה בְּכֹל כְּלֵי צְבָא מִלְחָמָה מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים אָלֶף	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 כָּל־אֵלֶּה אַנְשֵׁי מִלְחָמָה עֹדְרֵי מַעֲרָכָה בְּלֵבָב שָׁלֵם בָּאוּ חֶבְרֹונָה לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת־דָּוִיד עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגַם כָּל־שֵׁרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵב אֶחָד לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת־דָּוִיד	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 וַיִּהְיוּ־שָׁם עִם־דָּוִיד יָמִים שְׁלֹושָׁה אֹכְלִים וְשֹׁותִים כִּי־הֵכִינוּ לָהֶם אֲחֵיהֶם	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
41 וְגַם הַקְּרֹובִים־אֲלֵיהֶם עַד־יִשָׂשכָר וּזְבֻלוּן וְנַפְתָּלִי מְבִיאִים לֶחֶם בַּחֲמֹורִים וּבַגְּמַלִּים וּבַפְּרָדִים ׀ וּבַבָּקָר מַאֲכָל קֶמַח דְּבֵלִים וְצִמּוּקִים וְיַיִן־וְשֶׁמֶן וּבָקָר וְצֹאן לָרֹב כִּי שִׂמְחָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃ פ	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
