SAGRADA BIBLIANEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Jesus tornou a falar-lhes por meio de parábolas:1 Jesus again in reply spoke to them in parables, saying,
The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,2 "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.
and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.3 He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come.
Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.4 A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."'
But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.5 Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew {them}.6 The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
And {when} the king {heard of it he} was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.7 The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;8 Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.9 Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.'
And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.10 The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests.
And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.11 But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
And he says to him, {My} friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.12 He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.13 Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'
For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.14 Many are invited, but few are chosen."
And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men?s person;15 Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.
tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?16 They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status.
But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?17 Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?"
Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.18 Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
And he says to them, Whose {is} this image and superscription?19 Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin.
They say to him, Caesar?s. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar?s to Caesar, and what is God?s to God.20 He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?"
And when they heard {him}, they wondered, and left him, and went away.21 They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."
saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.22 When they heard this they were amazed, and leaving him they went away.
Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.23 On that day Sadducees approached him, saying that there is no resurrection. They put this question to him,
In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies without children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up descendants for his brother.'
And last of all the woman also died.25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died and, having no descendants, left his wife to his brother.
In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?26 The same happened with the second and the third, through all seven.
And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.27 Finally the woman died.
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.28 Now at the resurrection, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had been married to her."
Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, não lestes o que Deus vos disse:29 Jesus said to them in reply, "You are misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God.
Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaac e o Deus de Jacó {Ex 3,6}? Ora, ele não é Deus dos mortos, mas Deus dos vivos.30 At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven.
E, ouvindo esta doutrina, as turbas se enchiam de grande admiração.31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God,
Sabendo os fariseus que Jesus reduzira ao silêncio os saduceus, reuniram-se32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."
e um deles, doutor da lei, fez-lhe esta pergunta para pô-lo à prova:33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
Mestre, qual é o maior mandamento da lei?34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,
Respondeu Jesus: Amarás o Senhor teu Deus de todo teu coração, de toda tua alma e de todo teu espírito {Dt 6,5}.35 and one of them [a scholar of the law] tested him by asking,
Este é o maior e o primeiro mandamento.36 "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"
E o segundo, semelhante a este, é: Amarás teu próximo como a ti mesmo {Lv 19,18}.37 He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
Nesses dois mandamentos se resumem toda a lei e os profetas.38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.
Como os fariseus se agrupassem, Jesus interrogou-os:39 The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Que pensais vós de Cristo? De quem é filho? Responderam: De Davi!40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
Como então, prosseguiu Jesus, Davi, falando sob inspiração do Espírito, chama-o Senhor, dizendo:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
O Senhor disse a meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita, até que eu ponha teus inimigos por escabelo dos teus pés {Sl 109,1}?42 saying, "What is your opinion about the Messiah? Whose son is he?" They replied, "David's."
Se, pois, Davi o chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho?43 He said to them, "How, then, does David, inspired by the Spirit, call him 'lord,' saying:
Ninguém pôde responder-lhe nada. E, depois daquele dia, ninguém mais ousou interrogá-lo.44 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet"'?
If David calls him 'lord,' how can he be his son?"
No one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.
