1 Timothy 3

1 It is a faithful saying: if a man desires the episcopate, he desires a good work.	1 Fedele parola: s' alcuno desidera vescovado, buona opera desidera.
2 Therefore, it is necessary for a bishop to be beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, gracious, chaste, hospitable, a teacher,	2 Adunque mestieri è che il vescovo non sia tale ch' egli sia degno di reprensione; sia marito pur d'una mogliere, temperato, savio, ornato e ammaestratore.
3 not a drunkard, not combative but restrained, not quarrelsome, not covetous;	3 Non sia briaco nè feritore; non sia pieno di lite, nè cupido;
4 but a man who leads his own house well, having children who are subordinate with all chastity.	4 e sappia governare bene la sua casa, abiendo li figliuoli soggetti (e obbedienti) con tutta castità.
5 For if a man does not know how to lead his own house, how will he take care of the Church of God?	5 Quelli che non sa bene menare la sua casa, come avrà buona diligenza (e studio) della Chiesa di Dio?
6 He must not be a new convert, lest, being elated by pride, he may fall under the sentence of the devil.	6 Non sia chiamato vescovo, uomo che sia nuovo alla fede; uomo superbo, che potesse cadere nel giudicio del diavolo.
7 And it is necessary for him also to have good testimony from those who are outside, so that he may not fall into disrepute and the snare of the devil.	7 Conviensi che quello ( ch' è chiamato vescovo) abbia buona testimonianza eziandio di coloro che son di fuori, chè non caggia in vergogna, e nel laccio del diavolo.
8 Similarly, deacons must be chaste, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not pursuing tainted profit,	8 Simigliantemente li diaconi siano casti (e gravi di costumi); non siano doppii in favellare, nè gran bevitori, nè desideratori di sozzi guadagni.
9 holding to the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.	9 Anzi abbiano il misterio della fede in pura coscienza.
10 And these things should be proven first, and then they may minister, being without offense.	10 E questi sieno provati in prima; e così servano il ministerio, non abiendo alcuno grave peccato.
11 Similarly, the women must be chaste, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.	11 Simigliantemente le femine siano caste e temperate, e non facciano detrazione, e siano fedeli in tutte le cose.
12 Deacons should be the husband of one wife, men who lead their own children and their own houses well.	12 Li diaconi siano mariti pur d' una mogliere; li quali sappiano bene soprastare a' loro figlioli e a loro magioni.
13 For those who have ministered well will acquire for themselves a good position, and much confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.	13 E quelli che bene ammaestrano, buono guiderdone acquistaranno a sè medesimi, e grande securità avranno nella fede (di Iesù Cristo) la qual è in Cristo Iesù.
14 I am writing these things to you, with the hope that I will come to you soon.	14 Queste cose scrivo a te (Timoteo, figliuolo carissimo), avendo speranza di venire a te presto.
15 But, if I am delayed, you should know the manner in which it is necessary to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and the foundation of truth.	15 Ma se io indugiassi (abbi questa epistola), acciò che sappi come ti convenga conversare nella casa di Dio, la qual è la Chiesa di Dio, sì come (verace) colonna, e sì come (fermo) fondamento di (manifesta) verità.
16 And it is clearly great, this mystery of piety, which was manifested in the flesh, which was justified in the Spirit, which has appeared to Angels, which has been preached to the Gentiles, which is believed in the world, which has been taken up in glory.	16 E manifestamente egli è grande il sacramento della pietà, il quale è manifestato nella carne, è giustificato nel spirito, apparve agli angeli; egli è predicato alle genti, egli è stato raccomandato al mondo, egli è assunto in gloria
