Paul and Sylvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians, in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.1 Paulus et Silvanus et Timo theus ecclesiae Thessalonicen sium in DeoPatre et Domino Iesu Christo: gratia vobis et pax.
Grace and peace to you. We give thanks to God always for all of you, keeping the memory of you in our prayers without ceasing,2 Gratias agimus Deo semper pro omnibus vobis, memoriam facientes in orationibusnostris, sine intermissione;
remembering your work of faith, and hardship, and charity, and enduring hope, in our Lord Jesus Christ, before God our Father.3 memores operis fidei vestrae et laboris caritatiset sustinentiae spei Domini nostri Iesu Christi ante Deum et Patrem nostrum;
For we know, brothers, beloved of God, of your election.4 scientes, fratres, dilecti a Deo, electionem vestram,
For our Gospel has not been among you in word alone, but also in virtue, and in the Holy Spirit, and with a great fullness, in the same manner as you know we have acted among you for your sake.5 quia evangelium nostrumnon fuit ad vos in sermone tantum sed et in virtute et in Spiritu Sancto et inplenitudine multa, sicut scitis quales fuerimus vobis propter vos.
And so, you became imitators of us and of the Lord, accepting the Word in the midst of great tribulation, but with the joy of the Holy Spirit.6 Et vos imitatores nostri facti estis et Domini, excipientes verbum intribulatione multa cum gaudio Spiritus Sancti,
So have you become a pattern for all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.7 ita ut facti sitis formaomnibus credentibus in Macedonia et in Achaia.
For from you, the Word of the Lord was spread, not only in Macedonia and in Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith, which is toward God, has advanced so much so that we do not need to speak to you about anything.8 A vobis enim diffamatus estsermo Domini non solum in Macedonia et in Achaia, sed in omni loco fides vestra,quae est ad Deum, profecta est, ita ut non sit nobis necesse quidquam loqui;
For others are reporting among us of the kind of acceptance we had among you, and how you were converted from idols to God, to the service of the living and true God,9 ipsi enim de nobis annuntiant qualem introitum habuerimus ad vos, et quomodoconversi estis ad Deum a simulacris, servire Deo vivo et vero
and to the expectation of his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead), Jesus, who has rescued us from the approaching wrath.10 et exspectareFilium eius de caelis, quem suscitavit ex mortuis, Iesum, qui eripit nos ab iraventura.
