How is it that anyone of you, having a dispute against another, would dare to be judged before the iniquitous, and not before the saints?1 Is one of you with a complaint against another so brazen as to seek judgement from sinners and notfrom God's holy people?
Or do you not know that the saints from this age shall judge it? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you unworthy, then, to judge even the smallest matters?2 Do you not realise that the holy people of God are to be the judges of the world? And if the world is tobe judged by you, are you not competent for petty cases?
Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more the things of this age?3 Do you not realise that we shal be the judges of angels? - then quite certainly over matters of this life.
Therefore, if you have matters to judge concerning this age, why not appoint those who are most contemptible in the Church to judge these things!4 But when you have matters of this life to be judged, you bring them before those who are of no accountin the Church!
But I am speaking so as to shame you. Is there no one among you wise enough, so that he might be able to judge between his brothers?5 I say this to make you ashamed of yourselves. Can it real y be that it is impossible to find in thecommunity one sensible person capable of deciding questions between brothers,
Instead, brother contends against brother in court, and this before the unfaithful!6 and that this is why brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
Now there is certainly an offense among you, beyond everything else, when you have court cases against one another. Should you not accept injury instead? Should you not endure being cheated instead?7 No; it is a fault in you, by itself, that one of you should go to law against another at al : why do you notprefer to suffer injustice, why not prefer to be defrauded?
But you are doing the injuring and the cheating, and this toward brothers!8 And here you are, doing the injustice and the defrauding, and to your own brothers.
Do you not know that the iniquitous will not possess the kingdom of God? Do not choose to wander astray. For neither fornicators, nor servants of idolatry, nor adulterers,9 Do you not realise that people who do evil wil never inherit the kingdom of God? Make no mistake --the sexual y immoral, idolaters, adulterers, the self-indulgent, sodomites,
nor the effeminate, nor males who sleep with males, nor thieves, nor the avaricious, nor the inebriated, nor slanderers, nor the rapacious shall possess the kingdom of God.10 thieves, misers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers, none of these wil inherit the kingdom of God.
And some of you were like this. But you have been absolved, but you have been sanctified, but you have been justified: all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.11 Some of you used to be of that kind: but you have been washed clean, you have been sanctified, andyou have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and through the Spirit of our God.
All is lawful to me, but not all is expedient. All is lawful to me, but I will not be driven back by the authority of anyone.12 'For me everything is permissible'; maybe, but not everything does good. True, for me everything ispermissible, but I am determined not to be dominated by anything.
Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food. But God shall destroy both the stomach and food. And the body is not for fornication, but rather for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body.13 Foods are for the stomach, and the stomach is for foods; and God wil destroy them both. But thebody is not for sexual immorality;
Truly, God has raised up the Lord, and he will raise us up by his power.14 it is for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. God raised up the Lord and he will raise us up too by hispower.
Do you not know that your bodies are a part of Christ? So then, should I take a part of Christ and make it a part of a harlot? Let it not be so!15 Do you not realise that your bodies are members of Christ's body; do you think one can take parts ofChrist's body and join them to the body of a prostitute? Out of the question!
And do you not know that whoever is joined to a harlot becomes one body? “For the two,” he said, “shall be as one flesh.”16 Or do you not realise that anyone who attaches himself to a prostitute is one body with her, since thetwo, as it is said, become one flesh.
But whoever is joined to the Lord is one spirit.17 But anyone who attaches himself to the Lord is one spirit with him.
Flee from fornication. Every sin whatsoever that a man commits is outside of the body, but whoever fornicates, sins against his own body.18 Keep away from sexual immorality. Al other sins that people may commit are done outside the body;but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
Or do you not know that your bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?19 Do you not realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you and whom youreceived from God?
For you have been bought at a great price. Glorify and carry God in your body.20 You are not your own property, then; you have been bought at a price. So use your body for the gloryof God.
