“And these are the names of the tribes, from the parts of the north, beside the way of Hethlon, continuing on to Hamath, at the entrance of Enon, to the border of Damascus toward the north, beside the way of Hamath. And from the region of the east to the sea, there will be one portion for Dan.1 This is the list of the tribes. Dan: at the northern extremity, adjoining Hamath, all along from the approaches to Hethlon through Labo of Hamath to Hazar-enon, on the northerly border with Damascus, with his possession reaching from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Dan, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Asher.2 Asher: on the frontier of Dan, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Asher, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Naphtali.3 Naphtali: on the frontier of Asher, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Naphtali, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Manasseh.4 Manasseh: on the frontier of Naphtali, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Manasseh, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Ephraim.5 Ephraim: on the frontier of Manasseh, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Ephraim, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Reuben.6 Reuben: on the frontier of Ephraim, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Reuben, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Judah.7 Judah: on the frontier of Reuben, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Judah, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be the first-fruits, which you shall separate, twenty-five thousand in width, and in length, the same as each one of the portions from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea. And the sanctuary shall be in its midst.8 On the frontier of Judah, from the eastern to the western boundary there shall be the tract which you shall set apart, twenty-five thousand cubits from north to south, and as wide as one of the tribal portions from the eastern to the western boundary. In the center of the tract shall be the sanctuary.
The first-fruits, which you shall separate to the Lord, shall be, in length, twenty-five thousand, and in width, ten thousand.9 The tract that you set aside for the LORD shall be twenty-five thousand cubits across by twenty thousand north and south.
And these shall be the first-fruits for the sanctuary of the priests: toward the north, in length, twenty-five thousand, and toward the sea, in width, ten thousand, but also, toward the east, in width, ten thousand, and toward the south, in length, twenty-five thousand. And the sanctuary of the Lord shall be in its midst.10 In this sacred tract the priests shall have twenty-five thousand cubits on the north, ten thousand on the west, ten thousand on the east, and twenty-five thousand on the south; and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in its center.
The sanctuary shall be for the priests from the sons of Zadok, who observed my ceremonies and did not go astray, when the sons of Israel went astray, just as the Levites also went astray.11 The consecrated priests, the Zadokites, who fulfilled my service and did not stray along with the Israelites as the Levites did,
And so the foremost of the first-fruits of the land, the Holy of Holies, beside the border of the Levites, shall be for them.12 shall have within this tract of land their own most sacred domain, next to the territory of the Levites.
But also the Levites, similarly, shall have, beside the borders of the priests, twenty-five thousand in length, and ten thousand in width. The entire length shall be twenty-five thousand, and the width shall be ten thousand.13 The Levites shall have a territory corresponding to that of the priests, twenty-five thousand cubits by ten thousand. The whole tract shall be twenty-five thousand cubits across and twenty thousand north and south.
And they shall not sell from it, nor exchange, and the first-fruits of the land shall not be transferred. For these have been sanctified to the Lord.14 They may not sell or exchange or alienate this, the best part of the land, for it is sacred to the LORD.
But the five thousand that is left over, out of the twenty-five thousand in width, will be a profane place of the city for dwelling and for the suburbs. And the city shall be in the center.15 The remaining five thousand cubits along the twenty-five-thousand-cubit line are profane land, assigned to the City for dwellings and pasture; the City shall be at their center.
And these shall be its measurements: on the northern side, four thousand and five hundred; and on the southern side, four thousand and five hundred; and on the eastern side, four thousand and five hundred; and on the western side, four thousand and five hundred.16 These are the dimensions of the City: the north side, forty-five hundred cubits; the south side, forty-five hundred cubits; the east side, forty-five hundred cubits; and the west side, forty-five hundred cubits.
But the suburbs of the city shall be: to the north, two hundred and fifty; and to the south, two hundred and fifty; and to the east, two hundred and fifty; and to the sea, two hundred and fifty.17 The pasture lands of the City shall extend north two hundred and fifty cubits, south two hundred and fifty cubits, east two hundred and fifty cubits, and west two hundred and fifty cubits.
Now what will remain of the length, in accord with the first-fruits of the sanctuary, ten thousand in the east, and ten thousand in the west, shall be as the first-fruits of the sanctuary. And its produce will be for the bread of those who serve the city.18 There shall remain an area along the sacred tract, ten thousand cubits to the east and ten thousand to the west, whose produce shall provide food for the workers of the City.
And those who serve the city will be taken from all the tribes of Israel.19 The workers in the City shall be taken from all the tribes of Israel.
All the first-fruits, of the twenty-five thousand by twenty-five thousand square, shall be separated as the first-fruits of the sanctuary and as the possession of the city.20 The entire tract shall be twenty-five thousand by twenty-five thousand cubits; as a perfect square you shall set apart the sacred tract together with the City property.
And what will remain shall be for the prince out of every portion of the first-fruits of the sanctuary and of the possession of the city, from the region of the twenty-five thousand of the first-fruits, even to the eastern border. But also to the sea from the region of the twenty-five thousand, even to the border of the sea, similarly shall be the portion of the prince. And the first-fruits of the sanctuary, and the sanctuary of the temple, shall be in its center.21 The remainder shall belong to the prince: the land on both sides of the sacred tract and the City property, extending along the twenty-five-thousand-cubit line eastward to the eastern boundary, and westward along the twenty-five-thousand-cubit line to the western boundary, a territory parallel with the tribal portions for the prince. The sacred tract and the sanctuary of the temple shall be in the middle.
Now from the possession of the Levites, and from the possession of the city, which are in the midst of the prince’s portions, whatever is between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin, shall also belong to the prince.22 Thus, except for the property of the Levites and the City property, which lie in the midst of the prince's property, the territory between the portions of Judah and of Benjamin shall belong to the prince.
And for the remainder of the tribes, from the eastern region, even to the western region, there shall be one portion for Benjamin.23 These are the remaining tribes. Benjamin: from the eastern to the western boundary.
And opposite the border of Benjamin, from the eastern region, even to the western region, there shall be one portion for Simeon.24 Simeon: on the frontier of Benjamin, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Simeon, from the eastern region, even to the western region, there shall be one portion for Issachar.25 Issachar: on the frontier of Simeon, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Issachar, from the eastern region, even to the western region, there shall be one portion for Zebulun.26 Zebulun: on the frontier of Issachar, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Zebulun, from the eastern region, even to the region of the sea, there shall be one portion for Gad.27 Gad: on the frontier of Zebulun, from the eastern to the western boundary.
And beyond the border of Gad, toward the southern region, in the meridian, the last part shall be from Tamar, even to the Waters of Contradiction at Kadesh, as the inheritance opposite the great sea.28 Along the frontier of Gad shall be the southern boundary, which shall extend from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, and from there to the Wadi of Egypt, and on to the Great Sea.
This is the land that you shall distribute by lot to the tribes of Israel, and these shall be their portions, says the Lord God.29 Such is the land which you shall apportion as inheritances among the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions, says the Lord GOD.
And these shall be the exits of the city: from the northern region, you shall measure four thousand and five hundred.30 These are the exits of the City, the gates of which are named after the tribes of Israel. On the north side, measuring forty-five hundred cubits,
And the gates of the city shall be according to the names of the tribes of Israel. There shall be three gates from the north: the gate of Reuben one, the gate of Judah one, the gate of Levi one.31 there shall be three gates: the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi.
And to the eastern region, there shall be four thousand and five hundred. And there shall be three gates: the gate of Joseph one, the gate of Benjamin one, the gate of Dan one.32 On the east side, measuring forty-five hundred cubits, there shall be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of Dan.
And to the southern region, you shall measure four thousand and five hundred. And there shall be three gates: the gate of Simeon one, the gate of Issachar one, the gate of Zebulun one.33 On the south side, measuring forty-five hundred cubits, there shall be three gates: the gate of Simeon, the gate of Issachar, and the gate of Zebulun.
And to the western region, there shall be four thousand and five hundred, and their three gates: the gate of Gad one, the gate of Asher one, the gate of Naphtali one.34 On the west side, measuring forty-five hundred cubits, there shall be three gates: the gate of Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of Naphtali.
Along circumference, there shall be eighteen thousand. And the name of the city, from that day, shall be: ‘The Lord is in that very place.’ ”35 The perimeter of the City is eighteen thousand cubits. The name of the City shall henceforth be "The LORD is here."
