1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	1 - E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
2 “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and pour in drops toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the soil of Israel.	2 «Figlio dell'uomo, drizza la tua faccia verso Gerusalemme e apostrofa i luoghi santi e profetizza contro il suolo d'Israele,
3 And you shall say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, and I will cast my sword from its sheath, and I will slay the just and the impious among you.	3 e dirai alla terra d'Israele: - Così dice il Signore Dio: Eccomi a te e caverò la mia spada dal fodero e ucciderò in te il giusto e l'empio.
4 But in as much as I have slain among you the just and the impious, for this reason my sword will go forth from its sheath against all flesh, from the south even to the north.	4 Per questo che io ho voluto uccidere in te il giusto e l'empio, la mia spada sarà sguainata, contro ogni umana creatura dall'austro all'aquilone.
5 So may all flesh know that I, the Lord, have led my sword out of its sheath irrevocably.	5 Affinchè ogni creatura sappia che io, il Signore, ho cavato la mia spada dalla vagina nè più la invaginerò.
6 And as for you, son of man, groan in the breaking of your back, and groan in bitterness before them.	6 E tu, figlio dell'uomo, singhiozza a fiaccamento di reni, a lacrime amare singhiozza davanti ad essi.
7 And when they will say to you, ‘Why are you groaning?’ you shall say: ‘On behalf of the report, For it is approaching. And every heart will waste away, and every hand will be broken, and every spirit will be weakened, and water will flow across every knee.’ Behold, it is approaching and it will happen, says the Lord God.”	7 E quando ti diranno: Perchè singhiozzi tu? Dirai: Per la novella, perchè è giunta, ogni cuore sarà in disfacimento, tutte le mani si discioglieranno, ogni spirito sarà in trepidazione e tutte le ginocchia si distempreranno in acqua. Ecco è giunta e succederà -», dice il Signore Dio.
8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	8 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
9 “Son of man, prophesy, and you shall say: Thus says the Lord God: Speak: The sword! The sword has been sharpened and polished!	9 «Figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e dirai: - Così dice il Signore Dio e dirai: La spada, la spada è affilata e forbita!
10 It has been sharpened, so that it may cut down victims! It has been polished, so that it may shine! You are disturbing the scepter of my son. You have cut down every tree.	10 Per squarciare le vittime è stata affilata, per balenare su gli occhi è stata forbita, tu scrolli lo scettro del mio figlio e hai troncato il fusto d'ogni albero.
11 And I have sent it to be made smooth, so that it may be handled. This sword has been sharpened, and it has been polished, so that it may be in the hand of the one who kills.	11 L'ho data a forbire affinchè sia impugnata; essa è ora una ben affilata spada e ben forbita per esser data in pugno all'uccisore.
12 Cry out and wail, O son of man! For this has been done among my people, this is among all the leaders of Israel, who have fled. They have been handed over to the sword, with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	12 Stridi e urla, o figlio dell'uomo, perchè essa è per il mio popolo; essa è per tutti i duci di Israele che avean cercato scampo; sono stati consegnati alla spada insieme col mio popolo e perciò percuotiti l'anca,
13 for it has been tested. And this one, when he will have overthrown the scepter, will not be, says the Lord God.	13 perchè è una lama a tutta prova, e questo si vedrà quando avrà rovesciato lo scettro e più non sarà , - dice il Signore Dio.
14 You therefore, O son of man, prophesy, and strike hand against hand, and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled. This is the sword of the great slaughter, which causes them to be utterly stupefied,	14 Tu dunque, o figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e batti palma a palma e sia duplicata la spada, triplicata la spada omicida, quest'è la spada della grande carneficina che li farà inorridire,
15 and to waste away in heart, and which multiplies ruin. At all their gates, I have presented the consternation of the sword, which has been sharpened and polished so as to shine, which has been dressed for the slaughter.	15 e metterà il cuore in disfacimento e moltiplicherà le stragi. Su tutte le loro porte ho messo il terrore della spada aguzza e forbita che abbaglia tenuta a filo per menar carneficina.
16 Be sharpened! Go to the right or to the left, whichever way is the desire of your face.	16 Su dunque taglia: va' a destra od a sinistra dovunque hai brama di volgere il taglio.
17 And then I will clap hand against hand, and I will fulfill my indignation. I, the Lord, have spoken.”	17 Anzi e anch'io batterò palma a palma e darò compimento al mio disegno; io, il Signore, ho parlato».
18 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	18 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
19 “And as for you, son of man, set for yourself two ways, so that the sword of the king of Babylon may approach. Both shall go forth from one land. And with a hand, he will grasp and cast lots; he will cast at the head of the way of the community.	19 «E tu, figlio dell'uomo, sègnati due vie su cui venga la spada del re di Babilonia; da una stessa terra partiranno ambedue, egli colla mano coglierà l'auspicio, in capo alla via della città domanderà l'augurio.
20 You shall appoint a way, so that the sword may approach to Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, or to Judah, into Jerusalem, greatly fortified.	20 Segnerai la via perchè la spada venga a Rabbat dei figli di Ammon e in Giuda, a Gerusalemme, città ben fortificata».
21 For the king of Babylon stood at the fork, at the head of the two ways, seeking divination, shuffling arrows; he inquired of idols, and he consulted entrails.	21 Infatti il re di Babilonia si fermò al bivio, in capo alle due vie, per cavare l'oroscopo rimescolando le frecce; interrogò gli idoli, consultò le spiranti viscere.
22 To his right was set the divination over Jerusalem, to place battering rams so as to open a mouth for the slaughter, to lift up the voice of wailing, to place battering rams opposite the gates, to cast up a rampart, to build fortifications.	22 L'oroscopo è stato dato per la destra, incontro a Gerusalemme, perchè vi ponga gli arieti, perchè apra la bocca nel massacro, perchè alzi la voce con ululo di guerra, perchè punti gli arieti contro le porte, perchè argini le mura e fabbrichi i contrafforti.
23 And he shall be, in their eyes, like someone consulting an oracle in vain, or imitating the leisure of Sabbaths. But he will call to mind iniquities, so that it will be captured.	23 Negli occhi di coloro, egli sta come invano a consultare l'oracolo; come chi è di sabato e non può far faccende; ma egli tiene viva la memoria della loro iniquità, che li metterà nelle sue branche.
24 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Because you have been remembered in your iniquities, and you have revealed your betrayals, and your sins have appeared within all your plans, because, I say, you have been remembered, you will be captured by a hand.	24 E quindi così dice il Signore Dio: «Perchè avete rinnovato la memoria della vostra iniquità e disvelate le vostre prevaricazioni e le vostre colpe sono riapparse in tutte le vostre intenzioni, per questo, dico, sarete presi nelle branche».
25 But as for you, O impious leader of Israel, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity:	25 E tu, profanato, empio duce d'Israele, che vedi giunto il tuo giorno da una successione d'iniquità determinato,
26 Thus says the Lord God: Take away the diadem, remove the crown. Is this not what has exalted the lowly one, and brought low the sublime one?	26 così dice il Signore Dio: «Deponi la tiara, leva la corona! e non è forse questa che levò l'abbietto e depresse il grande?
27 Iniquity, iniquity, iniquity I will make it. And this was not done until the one arrived to whom judgment belongs, and I will hand it over to him.	27 A ruina, ruina, ruina, io la ridurrò! Ma questo non è stato fatto, fin tanto che venga colui al quale il giudizio s'appartiene, e a colui la ridarò.
28 And as for you, son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God to the sons of Ammon, and to their disgrace, and you shall say: O sword, O sword, unsheathe yourself so as to slay; polish yourself so as to kill and to shine,	28 E tu, figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e di': - Così dice il Signore Dio contro ai figli di Ammon, e contro ai loro oltraggi e dirai: Spada, spada, sguainata per far macello, affilata per uccidere e sfolgoreggiare
29 while they look upon you in vain, and they divine lies, so that you may be given over to the necks of the wounded impious, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity.	29 mentre a te presagiscono il falso e fan divinazioni mendaci, apprestata per cadere sul collo delle vittime empie, che vedranno giungere il loro giorno da una successione d'iniquità determinato!
30 Be returned to your sheath! I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity.	30 Rientra nel fodero: nel luogo dove fosti creata, nella terra dove hai avuto i natali ti giudicherò,
31 And I will pour out upon you my indignation. In the fire of my fury, I will fan you, and I will give you over to the hands of cruel men, who have devised destruction.	31 e verserò su di te la mia indignazione; colla fiamma che il mio fuoco avvampa ti affocherò e ti darò in mano ad uomini insensati, che si faranno strumenti della tua rovina.
32 You will be food for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land; you will be delivered to oblivion. For I, the Lord, have spoken.”	32 Sarai pascolo del fuoco, resterai dissanguata in mezzo alla tua terra e travolta nell'oblio; perchè io, il Signore, ho parlato -».
