1 ALEPH. I am a man watching my own poverty by the rod of his indignation.1 Alef. Yo soy el hombre que ha visto la miseria
bajo el látigo de su furor.
2 ALEPH. He has driven me and led me into darkness, and not into light.2 El me ha llevado y me ha hecho caminar
en tinieblas y sin luz.
3 ALEPH. Against me only, he has turned and turned again his hand, all day long.3 Contra mí solo vuelve él y revuelve
su mano todo el día.
4 BETH. My skin and my flesh, he has made old; he has crushed my bones.4 Bet. Mi carne y mi piel ha consumido,
ha quebrado mis huesos.
5 BETH. He has built all around me, and he has encircled me with gall and hardship.5 Ha levantado contra mí en asedio
amargor y tortura.
6 BETH. He has gathered me into darkness, like those who are forever dead.6 Me ha hecho morar en las tinieblas,
como los muertos para siempre.
7 GHIMEL. He has built against me all around, so that I may not depart. He has increased the burden of my confinement.7 Guímel. Me ha emparedado y no puedo salir;
ha hecho pesadas mis cadenas.
8 GHIMEL. Yet even when I cry out and beg, he excludes my prayer.8 Aun cuando grito y pido auxilio,
él sofoca mi súplica.
9 GHIMEL. He has enclosed my ways with square stones; he has subverted my paths.9 Ha cercado mis caminos con piedras sillares,
ha torcido mis senderos.
10 DALETH. He has become to me like a bear lying in ambush, like a lion in hiding.10 Dálet. Oso en acecho ha sido para mí,
león en escondite.
11 DALETH. He has subverted my paths, and he has broken me. He has placed me in desolation.11 Intrincando mis caminos, me ha desgarrado,
me ha dejado hecho un horror.
12 DALETH. He has bent his bow, and he has positioned me like a target for his arrows.12 Ha tensado su arco y me ha fijado
como blanco de sus flechas.
13 HE. He has shot into my kidneys the daughters of his quiver.13 He. Ha clavado en mis lomos
los hijos de su aljaba.
14 HE. I have become a derision to all my people, their song throughout the day.14 De todo mi pueblo me he hecho la irrisión,
su copla todo el día.
15 HE. He has filled me with bitterness; he has inebriated me with wormwood.15 El me ha colmado de amargura,
me ha abrevado con ajenjo.
16 VAU. And he has broken each one of my teeth; he has fed me with ashes.16 Vau. Ha quebrado mis dientes con guijarro,
me ha revolcado en la ceniza.
17 VAU. And my soul has been driven away from peace; I have forgotten what is good.17 Mi alma está alejada de la paz,
he olvidado la dicha.
18 VAU. And I said, “My end and my hope from the Lord has perished.”18 Digo: ¡Ha fenecido mi vigor,
y la esperanza que me venía de Yahveh!
19 ZAIN. Remember my poverty and my transgression, the wormwood and the gall.19 Zain. Recuerda mi miseria y vida errante:
¡es ajenjo y amargor!
20 ZAIN. I will call to mind the past, and my soul shall languish within me.20 Lo recuerda, lo recuerda, y se hunde
mi alma en mí.
21 ZAIN. These recollections are in my heart; therefore, I shall hope.21 Esto revolveré en mi corazón,
por ello esperaré:
22 HETH. By the mercies of the Lord, we are not consumed. For his compassion has not passed away.22 Jet. Que el amor de Yahveh no se ha acabado,
ni se ha agotado su ternura;
23 HETH. I know it at first light; great is your faithfulness.23 cada mañana se renuevan:
¡grande es tu lealtad!
24 HETH. “The Lord is my portion,” said my soul. Because of this, I will wait for him.24 «¡Mi porción es Yahveh, dice mi alma,
por eso en él espero!»
25 TETH. The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the soul that seeks him.25 Tet. Bueno es Yahveh para el que en él espera,
para el alma que le busca.
26 TETH. It is good to stand ready in silence for the salvation of God.26 Bueno es esperar en silencio
la salvación de Yahveh.
27 TETH. It is good for a man, when he has carried the yoke from his youth.27 Bueno es para el hombre soportar
el yugo desde su juventud.
28 JOD. He shall sit solitary and silent. For he has lifted it upon himself.28 Yod. Que se siente solitario y silencioso,
cuando el Señor se lo impone;
29 JOD. He shall place his mouth in the dirt, if perhaps there may be hope.29 que ponga su boca en el polvo:
quizá haya esperanza;
30 JOD. He shall give his cheek to those who strike him; he shall be saturated with reproaches.30 que tienda la mejilla a quien lo hiere,
que se harte de oprobios.
31 CAPH. For the Lord will not rebuke forever.31 Kaf. Porque no desecha para siempre
a los humanos el Señor:
32 CAPH. For, if he has cast down, he will also have compassion, according to the multitude of his mercies.32 si llega a afligir, se apiada luego
según su inmenso amor;
33 CAPH. For he has not humiliated from his heart, nor has he thrown aside the sons of men,33 pues no de corazón humilla él
ni aflige a los hijos de hombre.
34 LAMED. as if to crush under his feet all the prisoners of the land,34 Lámed. Cuando se aplasta bajo el pie
a todos los cautivos de un país,
35 LAMED. as if to turn aside the judgment of a man in the sight of the presence of the Most High,35 cuando se tuerce el derecho de un hombre
ante la faz del Altísimo,
36 LAMED. as if to pervert a man in his judgment: the Lord does not do this.36 cuando se causa entuerto a un hombre en su proceso,
¿el Señor no lo ve?
37 MEM. Who is this, who said to do what the Lord did not command?37 Mem. ¿Quién habló y ello fue?
¿No es el Señor el que decide?
38 MEM. Does not both misfortune and good proceed from the mouth of the Most High?38 ¿No salen de la boca del Altísimo
los males y los bienes?
39 MEM. Why has a living man murmured, a man suffering for his sins?39 ¿De qué, pues, se queja el hombre?
¡Que sea hombre contra sus pecados!
40 NUN. Let us examine our ways, and seek out, and return to the Lord.40 Nun. Examinemos nuestros caminos, escudriñémoslos,
y convirtámonos a Yahveh.
41 NUN. Let us lift up our hearts, with our hands, toward the Lord in the heavens.41 Alcemos nuestro corazón y nuestras manos
al Dios que está en los cielos.
42 NUN. We have acted sinfully, and we have provoked to wrath. About this, you are relentless.42 Nosotros hemos sido rebeldes y traidores:
¡Tú no has perdonado!
43 SAMECH. You have covered us in your fury, and you have struck us. You have killed, and have not spared.43 Sámek. Te has envuelto en cólera y nos has perseguido,
has matado sin piedad;
44 SAMECH. You have set a cloud opposite you, lest our prayer pass through.44 te has arropado en una nube
para que no pasara la oración;
45 SAMECH. In the midst of the peoples, you have uprooted me and cast me out.45 basura y abyección nos has hecho
en medio de los pueblos.
46 PHE. All our enemies have opened their mouths over us.46 Pe. Abren su boca contra nosotros
todos nuestros enemigos.
47 PHE. Prediction has become for us a dread, and a snare, and a grief.47 Terror y fosa es nuestra suerte,
desolación y ruina.
48 PHE. My eye has brought forth streams of water at the contrition of the daughter of my people.48 Arroyos de lágrimas derraman mis ojos
por la ruina de la hija de mi pueblo.
49 AIN. My eye has been afflicted, and it has not been quieted, because there would be no rest49 Ain. Mis ojos fluyen y no cesan;
ya no hay alivio
50 AIN. until the Lord looked down and saw from the heavens.50 hasta que mire y vea
Yahveh desde los cielos.
51 AIN. My eye has exhausted my soul over every one of the daughters of my city.51 Me hacen daño mis ojos
por todas las hijas de mi ciudad.
52 SADE. My enemies have chased me, and they have caught me like a bird, without reason.52 Sade. Cazar me cazaron como a un pájaro,
mis enemigos sin motivo.
53 SADE. My life has fallen into a pit, and they have placed a stone over me.53 Sofocaron mi vida en una fosa
y echaron piedras sobre mí.
54 SADE. The waters have flooded over my head. I said, “I am lost.”54 Sumergieron las aguas mi cabeza,
dije: «¡Estoy perdido!»
55 COPH. I called upon your name, O Lord, from the furthest pit.55 Qof. Invoqué tu Nombre, Yahveh,
desde la hondura de la fosa.
56 COPH. You have heard my voice. Do not turn away your ear from my sobbing and my cries.56 Tú oíste mi grito: «¡No cierres
tu oído a mi oración que pide ayuda!»
57 COPH. You drew near in the daytime, when I called upon you. You said, “Fear not.”57 Te acercaste el día en que te invocaba,
dijiste: «¡No temas!»
58 RES. You have judged, O Lord, the case of my soul. You are the Redeemer of my life.58 Res. Tú has defendido, Señor, la causa de mi alma,
mi vida has rescatado.
59 RES. You have seen, O Lord, their iniquity against me. Judge my case.59 Has visto, Yahveh, el entuerto que me hacían:
¡lleva tú mi juicio!
60 RES. You have seen all their fury, every one of their thoughts is against me.60 Has visto toda su venganza,
todos sus planes contra mí.
61 SIN. You have heard their reproach, O Lord, all their thoughts are against me.61 Sin. Has oído sus insultos, Yahveh,
todos sus planes contra mí,
62 SIN. The lips of those who rise up against me, and their meditations, are against me all day long.62 los labios de mis agresores y sus tramas,
contra mí todo el día.
63 SIN. Watch their sitting down and their rising up: I am their psalm.63 Estén sentados o en pie, mira:
yo soy la copla de ellos.
64 THAU. You shall pay a recompense to them, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.64 Tau. Retribúyeles, Yahveh,
según la obra de sus manos.
65 THAU. You shall give them a heavy shield of the heart: your hardship.65 Dales embotamiento de corazón,
¡tu maldición sobre ellos!
66 THAU. You shall pursue them in fury, and you shall destroy them under the heavens, O Lord.66 ¡Persíguelos con saña, extírpalos
de debajo de tus cielos!
