CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
After these things, Nathan the prophet arose, in the days of David.1 Después de él surgió Natán, para profetizar en tiempos de David.
And just as fat is separated from meat, so was David separated from the sons of Israel.2 Como se aparta la grasa del sacrificio de comunión, así fue elegido David entre los israelitas.
He played with lions, as if with lambs, and he acted similarly with bears, as if they were lambs of the flock, in his youth.3 El jugó con leones como si fueran cabritos y con osos como si fueran corderos.
Did he not kill the giant, and take away the reproach from his people?4 ¿Acaso, siendo joven, no mató a un gigante y extirpo el oprobio del pueblo, cuando lanzó una piedra con la honda y abatió la arrogancia de Goliat?
By lifting up his hand, with a stone in a sling, he threw down the boasting of Goliath.5 Porque él invocó al Señor, el Altísimo, que fortaleció su brazo para exterminar a un guerrero poderoso y mantener erguida la frente de su pueblo.
For he called upon the Almighty Lord, and he swore with his right hand to take away the mighty man of war, and to exalt the horn of his people.6 Por eso, lo glorificaron por los diez mil, y lo alabaron por las bendiciones del Señor, ofreciéndole una diadema de gloria.
So he glorified him amid ten thousand, and he praised him with the blessings of the Lord, by offering him a crown of glory.7 Porque él destruyó a los enemigos de alrededor y aniquiló a sus adversarios, los filisteos, quebrando su poderío hasta el día de hoy.
For he crushed the enemies on every side, and he eradicated his adversaries, the Philistines, even to this day. He broke their horn, even for all time.8 En todas sus obras rindió homenaje al Santo Altísimo, con palabras de gloria; cantó himnos de todo corazón, mostrando su amor por su Creador.
In all his works, he gave thanks to the Holy One, to the Most High, with words of glory.9 Estableció cantores delante del altar, para que entonaran cantos melodiosos;
With all his heart, he praised the Lord and he loved God, who made him and who gave him power against his enemies.10 dio esplendor a las fiestas, y ordenó perfectamente las solemnidades, haciendo que se alabara el santo nombre del Señor y que resonara el Santuario desde el alba.
And he appointed singers to stand opposite the altar, and by their voices he provided sweet music.11 El Señor borró sus pecados y exaltó su poderío para siempre, le otorgó una alianza real y un trono de gloria en Israel.
And he provided beauty for the celebrations, and he gave order to the times, even until the end of his life, so that they would praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the sanctity of God, from early morning.12 Después de él surgió un hijo lleno de saber que, gracias a David, vivió desahogadamente.
The Lord purged his sins, and he exalted his horn forever. And he gave him the covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.13 Salomón reinó en tiempos de paz y Dios le concedió tranquilidad en sus fronteras, a fin de que edificara una Casa a su Nombre y erigiera un Santuario eterno.
After him, an understanding son rose up. And by means of him, he cast down all the power of the enemies.14 ¡Qué sabio eras en tu juventud, desbordabas de inteligencia como un río!
Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God subjected all his enemies to him, so that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for all time. O how well-taught you were in your youth!15 Tu reputación cubrió la tierra, la llenaste de sentencias enigmáticas;
And you were filled with wisdom like a river, and your mind exposed the world.16 tu renombre llegó hasta las costas lejanas y fuiste amado por haber afianzado la paz.
And you explained mysteries by means of parables. Your name became known to far off islands, and you were beloved for your peace.17 Por tus cantos, tus proverbios y tus sentencias, y por tus interpretaciones, fuiste la admiración del mundo.
The earth was in wonder over your canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,18 En nombre del Señor Dios, de aquel que es llamado Dios de Israel, amontonaste el oro como estaño, y como plomo acumulaste la plata.
and over the name of the Lord God, who is known as the God of Israel.19 Pero tuviste debilidad por las mujeres y dejaste que dominaran tu cuerpo.
You gathered gold like copper, and you multiplied silver like lead.20 Pusiste una mancha sobre tu gloria y profanaste tu estirpe, atrayendo la ira sobre tus hijos, y haciéndoles deplorar tu locura:
But you bent your thigh to women, and you were held by the power of your body.21 así la realeza se dividió en dos, y de Efraím surgió un reino rebelde.
But God will not abandon his mercy, nor will he corrupt or abolish his own works. And he will not perish the stock of the descendents of his elect. And he will not destroy the offspring of him who loves the Lord.24 Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, hizo pecar a Israel y llevó a Efraím por el camino del mal. El pueblo cometió tantos pecados que fue expulsado de su país:
Therefore, he left behind a remnant for Jacob and for David, from the same stock.25 se entregaron a toda clase de maldades hasta que el castigo cayó sobre ellos.
And Solomon had his end with his fathers.
And he left behind himself some of his offspring, as the folly of the nation:
both Rehoboam, who had little prudence, and who turned away the people by his counsel,
and Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, and who provided a way of sin to Ephraim. And their sins were multiplied exceedingly.
They thoroughly turned them away from their own land.
And they sought every kind of wickedness, even until punishment overwhelmed them, and freed them from every kind of sin.
