After these things, Nathan the prophet arose, in the days of David.1 Puis apparut Nathan, qui prophétisait aux jours de David.
And just as fat is separated from meat, so was David separated from the sons of Israel.2 Comme dans un sacrifice les parties grasses sont réservées au Seigneur, ainsi David fut-il mis à part parmi les fils d’Israël.
He played with lions, as if with lambs, and he acted similarly with bears, as if they were lambs of the flock, in his youth.3 David se jouait des lions et des ours comme si c’étaient des chevreaux ou des jeunes agneaux.
Did he not kill the giant, and take away the reproach from his people?4 Dans sa jeunesse n’a-t-il pas tué le géant?
For he called upon the Almighty Lord, and he swore with his right hand to take away the mighty man of war, and to exalt the horn of his people.6 On lui fit gloire d’en avoir tué 10 000, on chantait ses louanges en bénissant le Seigneur et on lui offrit la couronne.
So he glorified him amid ten thousand, and he praised him with the blessings of the Lord, by offering him a crown of glory.7 Car il écrasa l’adversaire sur tous les fronts, il anéantit les Philistins qui lui faisaient face, et leur puissance fut brisée jusqu’à nos jours.
For he crushed the enemies on every side, and he eradicated his adversaries, the Philistines, even to this day. He broke their horn, even for all time.8 Après tant de hauts faits David rendit hommage au Saint, au Très-Haut, avec des cantiques de louange; de tout son cœur il lui chanta des hymnes, il aima celui qui l’avait fait.
In all his works, he gave thanks to the Holy One, to the Most High, with words of glory.9 David plaça devant l’autel des chanteurs avec des harpes pour qu’on y entende leurs voix mélodieuses.
With all his heart, he praised the Lord and he loved God, who made him and who gave him power against his enemies.10 Il donna de la splendeur aux fêtes et rehaussa l’éclat des solennités en faisant louer le saint Nom du Seigneur: dès l’aurore on entendait le chant sacré.
And he appointed singers to stand opposite the altar, and by their voices he provided sweet music.11 Le Seigneur lui pardonna ses péchés et voulut que son pouvoir dure pour des siècles; il s’engagea avec lui pour les rois à venir et promit de rendre sa dynastie glorieuse en Israël.
And he provided beauty for the celebrations, and he gave order to the times, even until the end of his life, so that they would praise the holy name of the Lord, and magnify the sanctity of God, from early morning.12 David eut pour successeur un fils plein de savoir; grâce à son père il vécut au large.
The Lord purged his sins, and he exalted his horn forever. And he gave him the covenant of the kingdom, and a throne of glory in Israel.13 Salomon régna en un temps de paix et Dieu lui épargna tout souci sur ses frontières, car il devait élever un Temple en l’honneur de son Nom et lui préparer un sanctuaire pour les siècles.
After him, an understanding son rose up. And by means of him, he cast down all the power of the enemies.14 Ô Salomon, comme tu étais sage dans ta jeunesse, et comme un fleuve, tu débordais d’intelligence!
Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God subjected all his enemies to him, so that he might build a house in his name, and prepare a sanctuary for all time. O how well-taught you were in your youth!15 Ton génie a recouvert la terre; tu l’as remplie de tes proverbes et de tes énigmes.
And you were filled with wisdom like a river, and your mind exposed the world.16 Ton renom est parvenu jusqu’aux îles lointaines: tu as été aimé car tu étais pacifique.
And you explained mysteries by means of parables. Your name became known to far off islands, and you were beloved for your peace.17 Les nations t’admiraient pour tes chants, proverbes et paraboles: tu avais l’art de tout élucider.
The earth was in wonder over your canticles, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations,18 Au nom du Seigneur Dieu qui se nomme Dieu d’Israël, tu as amassé l’or comme on ferait avec l’étain, tu as accumulé l’argent comme du plomb.
and over the name of the Lord God, who is known as the God of Israel.19 Mais il te fallait des femmes tout contre toi sur ta couche, elles étaient maîtresses de ton corps.
You gathered gold like copper, and you multiplied silver like lead.20 C’est ainsi que tu as souillé ta gloire et déshonoré ta descendance; tu as attiré sur tes enfants la Colère, et ta folie les a plongés dans le malheur.
But you bent your thigh to women, and you were held by the power of your body.21 On assista à la division du pouvoir: une royauté rebelle surgit en Éphraïm!
You brought a stain upon your glory, and you profaned your seed, so as to bring wrath upon your children, and to incite your foolishness,22 NO TEXT
so that you would cause the kingdom to be divided, and an obstinate kingdom to rule from Ephraim.23 Puis Salomon alla reposer avec ses pères, mais il laissait comme successeur le plus fou du peuple un homme dénué d’intelligence: ce Roboam, par ses décisions, fut cause de la révolte du peuple.
But God will not abandon his mercy, nor will he corrupt or abolish his own works. And he will not perish the stock of the descendents of his elect. And he will not destroy the offspring of him who loves the Lord.24 C’est alors que Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, fit pécher Israël, enseignant à Éphraïm les chemins du mal.
And Solomon had his end with his fathers.
And he left behind himself some of his offspring, as the folly of the nation:
both Rehoboam, who had little prudence, and who turned away the people by his counsel,
and Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, and who provided a way of sin to Ephraim. And their sins were multiplied exceedingly.
They thoroughly turned them away from their own land.
And they sought every kind of wickedness, even until punishment overwhelmed them, and freed them from every kind of sin.
