A Canticle Psalm. On the day of the Sabbath. | 1 You who live in the secret place of Elyon, spend your nights in the shelter of Shaddai, |
It is good to confess to the Lord and to sing psalms to your name, O Most High: | 2 saying to Yahweh, 'My refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust!' |
to announce your mercy in the morning, and your truth throughout the night, | 3 He rescues you from the snare of the fowler set on destruction; |
upon the ten strings, upon the psaltery, with a canticle, upon stringed instruments. | 4 he covers you with his pinions, you find shelter under his wings. His constancy is shield andprotection. |
For you, O Lord, have delighted me with your doings, and I will exult in the works of your hands. | 5 You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime, |
How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts have been made exceedingly deep. | 6 the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon. |
A foolish man will not know these things, and a senseless one will not understand: | 7 Though a thousand fal at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, you yourself wil remainunscathed. |
when sinners will have risen up like grass, and when all those who work iniquity will have appeared, that they shall pass away, age after age. | 8 You have only to keep your eyes open to see how the wicked are repaid, |
But you, O Lord, are the Most High for all eternity. | 9 you who say, 'Yahweh my refuge!' and make Elyon your fortress. |
For behold your enemies, O Lord, for behold your enemies will perish, and all those who work iniquity will be dispersed. | 10 No disaster can overtake you, no plague come near your tent; |
And my horn will be exalted like that of the single-horned beast, and my old age will be exalted in fruitful mercy. | 11 he has given his angels orders about you to guard you wherever you go. |
And my eye has looked down upon my enemies, and my ear will hear of the malignant rising up against me. | 12 They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone. |
The just one will flourish like the palm tree. He will be multiplied like the cedar of Lebanon. | 13 You wil walk upon wild beast and adder, you wil trample young lions and snakes. |
Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of the house of our God. | 14 'Since he clings to me I rescue him, I raise him high, since he acknowledges my name. |
They will still be multiplied in a fruitful old age, and they will endure well, | 15 He cal s to me and I answer him: in distress I am at his side, I rescue him and bring him honour. |
so that they may announce that the Lord our God is righteous and that there is no iniquity in him. | 16 I shal satisfy him with long life, and grant him to see my salvation.' |
