1 Unto the end. In verses, the understanding of David,	1 [Für den Chormeister. Nach der Weise «Krankheit». Ein Weisheitslied Davids.]
2 when the Ziphites had arrived and they said to Saul, “Has not David been hidden with us?”	2 Die Toren sagen in ihrem Herzen: «Es gibt keinen Gott.» Sie handeln verwerflich und schnöde; da ist keiner, der Gutes tut.
3 Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me in your virtue.	3 Gott blickt vom Himmel herab auf die Menschen, ob noch ein Verständiger da ist, der Gott sucht.
4 O God, listen to my prayer. Pay attention to the words of my mouth.	4 Alle sind sie abtrünnig und verdorben, keiner tut Gutes, auch nicht ein Einziger.
5 For strangers have risen up against me, and the strong have sought my soul. And they have not set God before their eyes.	5 Haben denn die Übeltäter keine Einsicht? Sie verschlingen mein Volk. Sie essen Gottes Brot, doch seinen Namen rufen sie nicht an.
6 For behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul.	6 Es trifft sie Furcht und Schrecken, obwohl doch nichts zu fürchten ist. Deinen Bedrängern hat Gott die Glieder zerschlagen. Gott lässt sie scheitern, denn er hat sie verworfen.
7 Turn back the evils upon my adversaries, and ruin them by your truth.	7 Ach käme doch vom Zion Hilfe für Israel! Wenn Gott einst das Geschick seines Volkes wendet, dann jubelt Jakob, dann freut sich Israel.
8 I will freely sacrifice to you, and I will confess your name, O God, because it is good.
9 For you have quickly rescued me from all tribulation, and my eye has looked down upon my enemies.
