Unto the end. The understanding of David. | 1 when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. |
When Doeg the Edomite came and reported to Saul, David went to the house of Ahimelech. | 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. |
Why do you glory in malice, you who are powerful in iniquity? | 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. |
All day long your tongue thinks up injustice. Like a sharp razor, you have wrought deceit. | 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. |
You have loved malice above goodness, and iniquity more than speaking righteousness. | 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. |
You have loved all precipitous words, you deceitful tongue. | 6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. |
Because of this, God will destroy you in the end. He will pull you up, and he will remove you from your tabernacle and your root from the land of the living. | 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. |
The just will see and be afraid, and they will laugh over him, and say: | 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. |
“Behold the man who did not set God as his helper. But he hoped in the multitude of his riches, and so he prevailed in his emptiness.” | 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. |
But I, like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God unto eternity, and forever and ever. | 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. |
I will confess to you forever, because you have accomplished it. And I will wait on your name, for it is good in the sight of your saints. | 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. |
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. |
