Deuteronomy 31

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 Moses went and spoke to all Israel as follows,	1 Moisés se dirigió a todo Israel y pronunció estas palabras.
2 'Today, I am one hundred and twenty years old, and can no longer act as leader. Yahweh has toldme, "You shal not cross this Jordan."	2 Les dijo: «Tengo ya ciento veinte años, y ya no puedo salir ni entrar; además el Señor me ha dicho: “No pasarás ese Jordán”.
3 Yahweh your God himself will lead you across, he himself wil destroy and dispossess these nationsconfronting you; Joshua too wil lead you across, as Yahweh has said.	3 El Señor, tu Dios, pasará delante de ti. Él destruirá delante de ti esas naciones y tú las tomarás en posesión. Josué pasará delante de ti, como ha dicho el Señor.
4 Yahweh wil treat them as he has treated Sihon and Og the Amorite kings and their country -- hedestroyed them.	4 El Señor los tratará como a los reyes amorreos Sijón y Og, y como a sus tierras, que arrasó.
5 Yahweh wil put them at your mercy, and you wil deal with them exactly as prescribed by thecommandments which I have laid down for you.	5 El Señor os los entregará y vosotros los trataréis conforme a toda esta prescripción que yo os he mandado.
6 Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is going with you;he wil not fail you or desert you.'	6 ¡Sed fuertes y valientes, no temáis, no os acobardéis ante ellos!, pues el Señor, tu Dios, va contigo, no te dejará ni te abandonará».
7 Moses then summoned Joshua and, in the presence of al Israel, said to him, 'Be strong, stand firm;you wil be the one to go with this people into the country which Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors that hewould give them; you are to be the one who puts them into possession of it.	7 Después Moisés llamó a Josué, y le dijo en presencia de todo Israel: «Sé fuerte y valiente, porque tú has de introducir a este pueblo en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, juró dar a tus padres y tú se la repartirás en heredad.
8 Yahweh himself will lead you; he wil be with you; he will not fail you or desert you. Have no fear, donot be alarmed.'	8 El Señor irá delante de ti. Él estará contigo, no te dejará ni te abandonará. No temas ni te acobardes».
9 Moses committed this Law to writing and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark ofYahweh's covenant, and to al the elders of Israel.	9 Moisés escribió esta ley y la consignó a los sacerdotes levitas que llevan el Arca de la Alianza del Señor, y a todos los ancianos de Israel,
10 And Moses gave them this command, 'At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the yearof remission, at the feast of Shelters,	10 y les mandó: «Cada siete años, en una fiesta del Año de la Remisión, en la fiesta de las Tiendas,
11 when all Israel assembles in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place chosen by him, you mustproclaim this Law in the hearing of al Israel.	11 cuando todo Israel acuda a presentarse ante el Señor, tu Dios, en el lugar que él elija, se proclamará esta ley ante todo Israel, a sus oídos.
12 Cal the people together, men, women, children, and the foreigner residing with you, so that, hearingit, they may learn to fear Yahweh your God and keep and observe al the words of this Law.	12 Congrega al pueblo, hombres, mujeres y niños, y al emigrante que esté en tus ciudades, para que escuchen y aprendan y teman al Señor, vuestro Dios, y observen todas las palabras de esta ley para cumplirla.
13 Their children, who as yet do not know it, wil hear it and learn to fear Yahweh your God, all the timeyou live in the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	13 Y así sus hijos, que no la conocen, la escucharán y aprenderán a temer al Señor, vuestro Dios, todos los días que viváis en la tierra que vais a poseer después de pasar el Jordán».
14 Yahweh said to Moses, 'And now the time is near when you must die. Summon Joshua and takeyour places at the Tent of Meeting, so that I can give him his orders.' Moses and Joshua went and took theirplaces at the Tent of Meeting,	14 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Está cerca el día de tu muerte. Llama a Josué, presentaos en la Tienda del Encuentro, y yo le daré mis órdenes». Moisés y Josué fueron a presentarse a la Tienda del Encuentro.
15 and Yahweh showed himself at the Tent in a pil ar of cloud; the pil ar of cloud stood at the door of theTent.	15 El Señor se les apareció en la Tienda, en una columna de nubes, que fue a colocarse a la entrada de la Tienda.
16 Yahweh said to Moses, 'You will soon be sleeping with your ancestors, and this people is about toplay the harlot by fol owing the gods of the foreigners of the country, among whom they are going to live. Theywil desert me and break my covenant, which I have made with them.	16 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Tú vas a reunirte con tus padres y este pueblo se levantará y se prostituirá con los dioses extranjeros de la tierra adonde va a entrar, y me abandonará y romperá la alianza que concerté con él.
17 That very day, my anger wil blaze against them; I shal desert them and hide my face from them. Ahost of disasters and misfortunes will overtake them to devour them, and when that day comes they wil say, "Ifsuch disasters overtake me, surely Yahweh my God cannot be with me?"	17 Ese día mi ira se encenderá contra él. Los abandonaré y les ocultaré mi rostro. Será presa fácil y le ocurrirán innumerables males y desgracias. Entonces se preguntará: “¿No me habrán alcanzado estos males porque mi Dios no está en medio de mí?”.
18 Yes indeed, I shall hide my face that day, on account of al the evil which they wil have done byturning to other gods.	18 Y yo, ese día, ocultaré aún más mi rostro por toda la maldad que cometió, pues se volvió hacia otros dioses.
19 'Now write down this song for you to use; teach it to the Israelites, put it into their mouths, for it to bea witness on my behalf against the Israelites:	19 Y ahora, escribid este cántico, enseñádselo a los hijos de Israel, haced que lo reciten, para que este cántico sea mi testigo contra los hijos de Israel.
20 against Israel, whom I am bringing into the country which I swore to his ancestors that I would givehim, a country flowing with milk and honey: against Israel, who wil eat to his heart's content and grow fat, andwil then turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant.	20 Cuando haya llevado a este pueblo a la tierra que mana leche y miel, que prometí con juramento a sus padres, y coma hasta saciarse, engorde y se vuelva a otros dioses y los sirva, me despreciará y romperá mi alianza;
21 When a host of disasters and misfortunes overtakes him, this song, like a witness, wil give evidenceagainst him, since his descendants wil not have forgotten it. Yes, even today, before I have brought him to thecountry which I have promised him on oath, I know what plans he has in mind.'	21 entonces, cuando le ocurran innumerables males y desgracias, este cántico dará testimonio contra él, pues su descendencia no se olvidará de recitarlo, porque conozco los planes que ya traza hoy, antes de haberlo llevado a la tierra que prometí con juramento».
22 So, that day, Moses wrote out this song and taught it to the Israelites.	22 Aquel día Moisés escribió este cántico y lo enseñó a los hijos de Israel.
23 To Joshua son of Nun, Yahweh gave this order, 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are to be the oneto bring the Israelites into the country which I have promised them on oath, and I myself shall be with you.'	23 El Señor ordenó a Josué, hijo de Nun: «¡Sé fuerte y valiente, que tú has de introducir a los hijos de Israel en la tierra que les prometí con juramento. Yo estaré contigo!».
24 When Moses had completely finished writing the words of this Law in a book,	24 Cuando Moisés terminó de escribir en un libro las palabras de esta ley hasta el final,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant:	25 mandó a los levitas que llevan el Arca de la Alianza del Señor:
26 'Take the book of this Law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God. Let it liethere as evidence against you.	26 «Tomad el libro de esta ley y colocadlo junto al Arca de la Alianza del Señor, vuestro Dios. Allí será como un testigo contra ti.
27 For I know how rebel ious and stiff-necked you are. If today, while I am stil alive and with you, yourebel against Yahweh, how much more wil you rebel against him after my death!	27 Porque yo conozco tu rebeldía y tu terquedad. Si hoy, que aún vivo con vosotros, sois rebeldes al Señor, ¡cuánto más lo seréis después de mi muerte!
28 'Gather al your tribal elders and scribes round me, so that I may be sure that they hear these words,as I cal heaven and earth to witness against them.	28 Congregad junto a mí a todos los ancianos de vuestras tribus y a vuestros oficiales, que quiero proclamar en su presencia estas palabras y poner contra ellos por testigos al cielo y a la tierra,
29 For I know that after my death you are certain to grow corrupt; you wil leave the way which I havemarked out for you; in the final days disaster wil befal you for having done what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, forhaving provoked his anger by your behaviour.'	29 pues sé que, después de mi muerte, os pervertiréis y os apartaréis del camino que os he mandado. En los días venideros, la desgracia saldrá a vuestro encuentro, porque hacéis lo malo a los ojos del Señor, irritándolo con vuestras obras».
30 In the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, Moses then recited the words of this song to the end:	30 Entonces Moisés proclamó en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel las palabras de este cántico hasta el final.
