NEW JERUSALEM | VULGATA |

[For the choirmaster Tune: 'The decrees are lilies' Of Asaph Psalm] Shepherd of Israel, listen, you wholead Joseph like a flock, enthroned on the winged creatures, shine forth | 1 In finem, pro torcularibus. Psalmus ipsi Asaph. |
over Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh; rouse your valour and come to our help. | 2 Exsultate Deo adjutori nostro ; jubilate Deo Jacob. |
God, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe. |
Yahweh, God Sabaoth, how long wil you flare up at your people's prayer? | 4 Buccinate in neomenia tuba, in insigni die solemnitatis vestræ : |
You have made tears their food, redoubled tears their drink. | 5 quia præceptum in Israël est, et judicium Deo Jacob. |
You let our neighbours quarrel over us, our enemies mock us. |
God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe. | 7 Divertit ab oneribus dorsum ejus ; manus ejus in cophino servierunt. |
You brought a vine out of Egypt, to plant it you drove out nations; | 8 In tribulatione invocasti me, et liberavi te. Exaudivi te in abscondito tempestatis ; probavi te apud aquam contradictionis. |
you cleared a space for it, it took root and fil ed the whole country. | 9 Audi, populus meus, et contestabor te. Israël, si audieris me, |
The mountains were covered with its shade, and the cedars of God with its branches, | 10 non erit in te deus recens, neque adorabis deum alienum. |
its boughs stretched as far as the sea, its shoots as far as the River. |
Why have you broken down its fences? Every passer-by plucks its grapes, | 12 Et non audivit populus meus vocem meam, et Israël non intendit mihi. |
boars from the forest tear at it, wild beasts feed on it. | 13 Et dimisi eos secundum desideria cordis eorum ; ibunt in adinventionibus suis. |
God Sabaoth, come back, we pray, look down from heaven and see, visit this vine; | 14 Si populus meus audisset me, Israël si in viis meis ambulasset, |
protect what your own hand has planted. |
They have thrown it on the fire like dung, the frown of your rebuke wil destroy them. | 16 Inimici Domini mentiti sunt ei, et erit tempus eorum in sæcula. |
May your hand protect those at your side, the child of Adam you have strengthened for yourself! |
Never again wil we turn away from you, give us life and we will cal upon your name. | |
God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shal be safe. |
