NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
[For the choirmaster Tune: 'The decrees are lilies' Of Asaph Psalm] Shepherd of Israel, listen, you wholead Joseph like a flock, enthroned on the winged creatures, shine forth1 Unto the end, for them that shall he changed, a testimony for Asaph, a psalm.
over Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh; rouse your valour and come to our help.2 Give ear, O thou that rulest Israel: thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep. Thou that sittest upon the cherubims, shine forth
God, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.3 before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasses. Stir up thy might, and come to save us.
Yahweh, God Sabaoth, how long wil you flare up at your people's prayer?4 Convert us, O God: and shew us thy face, and we shall be saved.
You have made tears their food, redoubled tears their drink.5 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy servant?
You let our neighbours quarrel over us, our enemies mock us.6 How long wilt thou feed us with the bread of tears: and give us for our drink tears in measure?
God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.7 Thou hast made us to be a contradiction to our neighbours: and our enemies have scoffed at us.
You brought a vine out of Egypt, to plant it you drove out nations;8 O God of hosts, convert us: and shew thy face, and we shall be saved.
you cleared a space for it, it took root and fil ed the whole country.9 Thou hast brought a vineyard out of Egypt: thou hast cast cut the Gentiles and planted it.
The mountains were covered with its shade, and the cedars of God with its branches,10 Thou wast the guide of its journey in its sight: thou plantedst the roots thereof, and it filled the land.
its boughs stretched as far as the sea, its shoots as far as the River.11 The shadow of it covered the hills: and the branches thereof the cedars of God.
Why have you broken down its fences? Every passer-by plucks its grapes,12 It stretched forth its branches unto the sea, and its boughs unto the river.
boars from the forest tear at it, wild beasts feed on it.13 Why hast thou broken down the hedge thereof, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck it?
God Sabaoth, come back, we pray, look down from heaven and see, visit this vine;14 The boar out of the wood hath laid it waste: and a singular wild beast hath devoured it.
protect what your own hand has planted.15 Turn again, O God of hosts, look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vineyard:
They have thrown it on the fire like dung, the frown of your rebuke wil destroy them.16 And perfect the same which thy right hand hath planted: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed for thyself.
May your hand protect those at your side, the child of Adam you have strengthened for yourself!17 Things set on fire and dug down shall perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
Never again wil we turn away from you, give us life and we will cal upon your name.18 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed for thyself.
God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shal be safe.19 And we depart not from thee, thou shalt quicken us: and we will call upon thy name.
O Lord God of hosts, convert us: and shew thy face, and we shall be saved.
