Matthew 15

1 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,	1 In quel tempo vennero a Gesù da Gerusalemme alcuni farisei e alcuni scribi e gli dissero:
2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal."	2 "Perché i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono la tradizione degli antichi? Poiché non si lavano le mani quando prendono cibo!".
3 He said to them in reply, "And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?	3 Ed egli rispose loro: "Perché voi trasgredite il comandamento di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione?
4 For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses father or mother shall die.'	4 Dio ha detto: 'Onora il padre e la madre' e inoltre: 'Chi maledice il padre e la madre sia messo a morte.'
5 But you say, 'Whoever says to father or mother, "Any support you might have had from me is dedicated to God,"	5 Invece voi asserite: Chiunque dice al padre o alla madre: Ciò con cui ti dovrei aiutare è offerto a Dio,
6 need not honor his father.' You have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition.	6 non è più tenuto a onorare suo padre o sua madre. Così avete annullato la parola di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione.
7 Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you when he said:	7 Ipocriti! Bene ha profetato di voi Isaia, dicendo:
8 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;	8 'Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra ma il suo cuore è lontano da me.'
9 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.'"	9 'Invano essi mi rendono culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini'".
10 He summoned the crowd and said to them, "Hear and understand.	10 Poi riunita la folla disse: "Ascoltate e intendete!
11 It is not what enters one's mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one."	11 Non quello che entra nella bocca rende impuro l'uomo, ma quello che esce dalla bocca rende impuro l'uomo!".
12 Then his disciples approached and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?"	12 Allora i discepoli gli si accostarono per dirgli: "Sai che i farisei si sono scandalizzati nel sentire queste parole?".
13 He said in reply, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.	13 Ed egli rispose: "Ogni pianta che non è stata piantata dal mio Padre celeste sarà sradicata.
14 Let them alone; they are blind guides (of the blind). If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit."	14 Lasciateli! Sono ciechi e guide di ciechi. E quando un cieco guida un altro cieco, tutti e due cadranno in un fosso!".
15 Then Peter said to him in reply, "Explain (this) parable to us."	15 Pietro allora gli disse: "Spiegaci questa parabola".
16 He said to them, "Are even you still without understanding?	16 Ed egli rispose: "Anche voi siete ancora senza intelletto?
17 Do you not realize that everything that enters the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled into the latrine?	17 Non capite che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca, passa nel ventre e va a finire nella fogna?
18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile.	18 Invece ciò che esce dalla bocca proviene dal cuore. Questo rende immondo l'uomo.
19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy.	19 Dal cuore, infatti, provengono i propositi malvagi, gli omicidi, gli adultéri, le prostituzioni, i furti, le false testimonianze, le bestemmie.
20 These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile."	20 Queste sono le cose che rendono immondo l'uomo, ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non rende immondo l'uomo".
21 Then Jesus went from that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Partito di là, Gesù si diresse verso le parti di Tiro e Sidone.
22 And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, "Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon."	22 Ed ecco una donna Cananèa, che veniva da quelle regioni, si mise a gridare: "Pietà di me, Signore, figlio di Davide. Mia figlia è crudelmente tormentata da un demonio".
23 But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, "Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us."	23 Ma egli non le rivolse neppure una parola. Allora i discepoli gli si accostarono implorando: "Esaudiscila, vedi come ci grida dietro".
24 He said in reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."	24 Ma egli rispose: "Non sono stato inviato che alle pecore perdute della casa di Israele".
25 But the woman came and did him homage, saying, "Lord, help me."	25 Ma quella venne e si prostrò dinanzi a lui dicendo: "Signore, aiutami!".
26 He said in reply, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs."	26 Ed egli rispose: "Non è bene prendere il pane dei figli per gettarlo ai cagnolini".
27 She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters."	27 "È vero, Signore, disse la donna, ma anche i cagnolini si cibano delle briciole che cadono dalla tavola dei loro padroni".
28 Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that hour.	28 Allora Gesù le replicò: "Donna, davvero grande è la tua fede! Ti sia fatto come desideri". E da quell'istante sua figlia fu guarita.
29 Moving on from there Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there.	29 Allontanatosi di là, Gesù giunse presso il mare di Galilea e, salito sul monte, si fermò là.
30 Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Attorno a lui si radunò molta folla recando con sé zoppi, storpi, ciechi, sordi e molti altri malati; li deposero ai suoi piedi, ed egli li guarì.
31 The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.	31 E la folla era piena di stupore nel vedere i muti che parlavano, gli storpi raddrizzati, gli zoppi che camminavano e i ciechi che vedevano. E glorificava il Dio di Israele.
32 Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way."	32 Allora Gesù chiamò a sé i discepoli e disse: "Sento compassione di questa folla: ormai da tre giorni mi vengono dietro e non hanno da mangiare. Non voglio rimandarli digiuni, perché non svengano lungo la strada".
33 The disciples said to him, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?"	33 E i discepoli gli dissero: "Dove potremo noi trovare in un deserto tanti pani da sfamare una folla così grande?".
34 Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied, "and a few fish."	34 Ma Gesù domandò: "Quanti pani avete?". Risposero: "Sette, e pochi pesciolini".
35 He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.	35 Dopo aver ordinato alla folla di sedersi per terra,
36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.	36 Gesù prese i sette pani e i pesci, rese grazie, li spezzò, li dava ai discepoli, e i discepoli li distribuivano alla folla.
37 They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over--seven baskets full.	37 Tutti mangiarono e furono saziati. Dei pezzi avanzati portarono via sette sporte piene.
38 Those who ate were four thousand men, not counting women and children.	38 Quelli che avevano mangiato erano quattromila uomini, senza contare le donne e i bambini.
39 And when he had dismissed the crowds, he got into the boat and came to the district of Magadan.	39 Congedata la folla, Gesù salì sulla barca e andò nella regione di Magadàn.
