1 A mild answer calms wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.	1 Szelíd felelet megtöri a haragot, sértő szó pedig szítja az indulatot.
2 The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge, but the mouth of fools spurts forth folly.	2 A bölcsek nyelve ékessé teszi a tudományt, a balgák szája pedig dőreséget bugyogtat.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.	3 Az Úr szeme mindenütt jelen van, a rosszakat is, a jókat is meglátja.
4 A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse one crushes the spirit.	4 A békülékeny nyelv az élet fája, a zabolátlan azonban összezúzza a lelket.
5 The fool spurns his father's admonition, but prudent is he who heeds reproof.	5 A balga fitymálja atyja feddését, aki pedig intésre hallgat, csak okosabb lesz. A tökéletes jámborság a legnagyobb erősség, a gonoszok terveit pedig kiirtják.
6 In the house of the just there are ample resources, but the earnings of the wicked are in turmoil.	6 Az igaz háza igen nagy erősség, a gonoszok termésében pedig háborúság van.
7 The lips of the wise disseminate knowledge, but the heart of fools is perverted.	7 A bölcsek ajka tudást hint, nem így azonban a balgák szíve!
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.	8 Utálja az Úr a gonoszok áldozatait, de kedvét leli az igazak imájában.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves the man who pursues virtue.	9 Utálja az Úr a gonosz útját, de szereti azt, aki az igazság útján jár.
10 Severe punishment is in store for the man who goes astray; he who hates reproof will die.	10 Súlyosan lakol, aki letér az élet útjáról, aki a dorgálást gyűlöli, az meghal.
11 The nether world and the abyss lie open before the LORD; how much more the hearts of men!	11 Az alvilág s az enyészet helye tárva van az Úr előtt, mennyivel inkább az emberek fiainak szíve!
12 The senseless man loves not to be reproved; to wise men he will not go.	12 Az arcátlan nem szívleli azt, aki meginti, oda sem néz a bölcsek tájékára.
13 A glad heart lights up the face, but by mental anguish the spirit is broken.	13 A jókedv felderíti az arcot, a szív bánata pedig leveri a lelket.
14 The mind of the intelligent man seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.	14 Az okos szíve tudást keres, a balgák szája pedig bolondságon legel.
15 Every day is miserable for the depressed, but a lighthearted man has a continual feast.	15 Bajos a szegény ember minden napja, de a derűs kedély olyan, mint a folytonos lakoma.
16 Better a little with fear of the LORD than a great fortune with anxiety.	16 Többet ér a kevés az Úr félelmében, mint a dús kincs nyugtalanság közepette.
17 Better a dish of herbs where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.	17 Jobb, ha főzelékre hívnak szeretettel, mint hizlalt tulokra gyűlölettel.
18 An ill-tempered man stirs up strife, but a patient man allays discord.	18 Az indulatos ember civódást szít, a szelíd ellenben a viszályt lecsendesíti.
19 The way of the sluggard is hemmed in as with thorns, but the path of the diligent is a highway.	19 A lusta ösvénye olyan, mint a töviskerítés, a szorgosak útja pedig egyenletes.
20 A wise son makes his father glad, but a fool of a man despises his mother.	20 A bölcs fiú örömet szerez atyjának, a balga ember pedig megveti anyját.
21 Folly is joy to the senseless man, but the man of understanding goes the straight way.	21 A sületlenség kész öröm a balgának, az okos férfi pedig jól irányítja lépéseit.
22 Plans fail when there is no counsel, but they succeed when counselors are many.	22 Tanácskozás nélkül a tervek meghiúsulnak, de ahol sok a tanácsadó, ott valóra válnak.
23 There is joy for a man in his utterance; a word in season, how good it is!	23 Öröme telik az embernek a szája válaszában, s a kellő időben kimondott szó – de jó!
24 The path of life leads the prudent man upward, that he may avoid the nether world below.	24 Felfelé visz az okos ember életútja, hogy elkerülje az alvilágot odalenn!
25 The LORD overturns the house of the proud, but he preserves intact the widow's landmark.	25 Lebontja az Úr a kevélyek házát, és megerősíti az özvegy mezsgyéjét.
26 The wicked man's schemes are an abomination to the LORD, but the pure speak what is pleasing to him.	26 Utálja az Úr a gonosz terveket, a tiszta beszéd azonban kedves előtte.
27 He who is greedy of gain brings ruin on his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.	27 Aki igaztalan haszonra törekszik, tönkreteszi házát, de aki megveti az ajándékot, életet talál. Könyörület és hűség eltörli a vétket, s az Úr félelme által bárki elkerüli a gonoszságot.
28 The just man weighs well his utterance, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.	28 Az igaz szíve megfontolja a feleletet, a gonoszok szája pedig ontja a gazságot.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked, but the prayer of the just he hears.	29 Távoltartja magát az Úr a gonoszoktól, de meghallgatja az igazak imáját.
30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart; good news invigorates the bones.	30 A barátságos tekintet felvidítja a lelket, és a kedvező hír erősíti a csontokat.
31 He who listens to salutary reproof will abide among the wise.	31 A fül, amely az üdvös intelmet befogadja, szívesen időzik a bölcsek körében!
32 He who rejects admonition despises his own soul, but he who heeds reproof gains understanding.	32 Aki elveti az intelmet, lebecsüli önmagát, aki pedig hallgat a dorgálásra, belátásra jut.
33 The fear of the LORD is training for wisdom, and humility goes before honors.	33 Az Úr félelme a bölcsesség tudománya, s a dicsőség előtt alázatosság jár.
