Psalms 107

1 "Give thanks to the LORD who is good, whose love endures forever!"	1 Alleluia. Celebrate il Signore perché è buono, perché eterna è la sua misericordia.
2 Let that be the prayer of the LORD'S redeemed, those redeemed from the hand of the foe,	2 Lo dicano i riscattati del Signore, che egli liberò dalla mano del nemico
3 Those gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.	3 e radunò da tutti i paesi, dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mezzogiorno.
4 Some had lost their way in a barren desert; found no path toward a city to live in.	4 Vagavano nel deserto, nella steppa, non trovavano il cammino per una città dove abitare.
5 They were hungry and thirsty; their life was ebbing away.	5 Erano affamati e assetati, veniva meno la loro vita.
6 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who rescued them in their peril,	6 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
7 Guided them by a direct path so they reached a city to live in.	7 Li condusse sulla via retta, perché camminassero verso una città dove abitare.
8 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.	8 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;
9 For he satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with good things.	9 poiché saziò il desiderio dell'assetato, e l'affamato ricolmò di beni.
10 Some lived in darkness and gloom, in prison, bound with chains,	10 Abitavano nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, prigionieri della miseria e dei ceppi,
11 Because they rebelled against God's word, scorned the counsel of the Most High,	11 perché si erano ribellati alla parola di Dio e avevano disprezzato il disegno dell'Altissimo.
12 Who humbled their hearts through hardship; they stumbled with no one to help.	12 Egli piegò il loro cuore sotto le sventure; cadevano e nessuno li aiutava.
13 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,	13 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
14 Led them forth from darkness and gloom and broke their chains asunder.	14 Li fece uscire dalle tenebre e dall'ombra di morte e spezzò le loro catene.
15 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.	15 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;
16 For he broke down the gates of bronze and snapped the bars of iron.	16 perché ha infranto le porte di bronzo e ha spezzato le barre di ferro.
17 Some fell sick from their wicked ways, afflicted because of their sins.	17 Stolti per la loro iniqua condotta, soffrivano per i loro misfatti;
18 They loathed all manner of food; they were at the gates of death.	18 rifiutavano ogni nutrimento e già toccavano le soglie della morte.
19 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,	19 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
20 Sent forth the word to heal them, snatched them from the grave.	20 Mandò la sua parola e li fece guarire, li salvò dalla distruzione.
21 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.	21 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.
22 Let them offer a sacrifice in thanks, declare his works with shouts of joy.	22 Offrano a lui sacrifici di lode, narrino con giubilo le sue opere.
23 Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.	23 Coloro che solcavano il mare sulle navi e commerciavano sulle grandi acque,
24 They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.	24 videro le opere del Signore, i suoi prodigi nel mare profondo.
25 He spoke and roused a storm wind; it tossed the waves on high.	25 Egli parlò e fece levare un vento burrascoso che sollevò i suoi flutti.
26 They rose up to the heavens, sank to the depths; their hearts trembled at the danger.	26 Salivano fino al cielo, scendevano negli abissi; la loro anima languiva nell'affanno.
27 They reeled, staggered like drunkards; their skill was of no avail.	27 Ondeggiavano e barcollavano come ubriachi, tutta la loro perizia era svanita.
28 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who brought them out of their peril,	28 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
29 Hushed the storm to a murmur; the waves of the sea were stilled.	29 Ridusse la tempesta alla calma, tacquero i flutti del mare.
30 They rejoiced that the sea grew calm, that God brought them to the harbor they longed for.	30 Si rallegrarono nel vedere la bonaccia ed egli li condusse al porto sospirato.
31 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.	31 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.
32 Let them praise him in the assembly of the people, give thanks in the council of the elders.	32 Lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo, lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.
33 God changed rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,	33 Ridusse i fiumi a deserto, a luoghi aridi le fonti d'acqua
34 Fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its people.	34 e la terra fertile a palude per la malizia dei suoi abitanti.
35 He changed the desert into pools of water, arid land into springs of water,	35 Ma poi cambiò il deserto in lago, e la terra arida in sorgenti d'acqua.
36 And settled the hungry there; they built a city to live in.	36 Là fece dimorare gli affamati ed essi fondarono una città dove abitare.
37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards, brought in an abundant harvest.	37 Seminarono campi e piantarono vigne, e ne raccolsero frutti abbondanti.
38 God blessed them, they became very many, and their livestock did not decrease.	38 Li benedisse e si moltiplicarono, non lasciò diminuire il loro bestiame.
39 Where they were diminished and brought low through misery and cruel oppression,	39 Ma poi, ridotti a pochi, furono abbattuti, perché oppressi dalle sventure e dal dolore.
40 But he poured out contempt on princes, made them wander the trackless wastes,	40 Colui che getta il disprezzo sui potenti, li fece vagare in un deserto senza strade.
41 While the poor were released from their affliction; their families increased like their flocks.	41 Ma risollevò il povero dalla miseria e rese le famiglie numerose come greggi.
42 The upright saw this and rejoiced; all wickedness shut its mouth.	42 Vedono i giusti e ne gioiscono e ogni iniquo chiude la sua bocca.
43 Whoever is wise will take note of these things, will ponder the merciful deeds of the LORD.	43 Chi è saggio osservi queste cose e comprenderà la bontà del Signore.
