Première épître aux Corinthiens 10

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Car je ne veux pas que vous l'ignoriez, frères: nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, tous ontpassé à travers la mer,	1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.
2 tous ont été baptisés en Moïse dans la nuée et dans la mer,	2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;
3 tous ont mangé le même aliment spirituel	3 al ate the same spiritual food
4 et tous ont bu le même breuvage spirituel - ils buvaient en effet à un rocher spirituel qui lesaccompagnait, et ce rocher, c'était le Christ.	4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.
5 Cependant, ce n'est pas le plus grand nombre d'entre eux qui plut à Dieu, puisque leurs corpsjonchèrent le désert.	5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.
6 Ces faits se sont produits pour nous servir d'exemples, pour que nous n'ayons pas deconvoitises mauvaises, comme ils en eurent eux-mêmes.	6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;
7 Ne devenez pas idolâtres comme certains d'entre eux, dont il est écrit: Le peuple s'assit pourmanger et boire, puis ils se levèrent pour s'amuser.	7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.
8 Et ne forniquons pas, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et il en tomba 23.000 en un seuljour.	8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.
9 Ne tentons pas non plus le Seigneur, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et ils périrent parles serpents.	9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.
10 Et ne murmurez pas, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et ils périrent par l'Exterminateur.	10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.
11 Cela leur arrivait pour servir d'exemple, et a été écrit pour notre instruction à nous quitouchons à la fin des temps.	11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.
12 Ainsi donc, que celui qui se flatte d'être debout prenne garde de tomber.	12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.
13 Aucune tentation ne vous est survenue, qui passât la mesure humaine. Dieu est fidèle; il nepermettra pas que vous soyez tentés au-delà de vos forces; mais avec la tentation, il vous donnera le moyen d'ensortir et la force de la supporter.	13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.
14 C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.	14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.
15 Je vous parle comme à des gens sensés; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.	15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.
16 La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons, n'est-elle pas communion au sang du Christ?Le pain que nous rompons, n'est-il pas communion au corps du Christ?	16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17 Parce qu'il n'y a qu'un pain, à plusieurs nous ne sommes qu'un corps, car tous nousparticipons à ce pain unique.	17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.
18 Considérez l'Israël selon la chair. Ceux qui mangent les victimes ne sont-ils pas encommunion avec l'autel?	18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?
19 Qu'est-ce à dire? Que la viande immolée aux idoles soit quelque chose? Ou que l'idole soitquelque chose?...	19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?
20 Mais ce qu'on immole, c'est à des démons et à ce qui n'est pas Dieu qu'on l'immole. Or, jene veux pas que vous entriez en communion avec les démons.	20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.
21 Vous ne pouvez boire la coupe du Seigneur et la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvezparticiper à la table du Seigneur et à la table des démons.	21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .
22 Ou bien voudrions-nous provoquer la jalousie du Seigneur? Serions-nous plus forts que lui?	22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?
23 "Tout est permis"; mais tout n'est pas profitable. "Tout est permis"; mais tout n'édifie pas.	23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.
24 Que personne ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais celui d'autrui.	24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.
25 Tout ce qui se vend au marché, mangez-le sans poser de question par motif de conscience;	25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,
26 car la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qui la remplit.	26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.
27 Si quelque infidèle vous invite et que vous acceptiez d'y aller, mangez tout ce qu'on voussert, sans poser de question par motif de conscience.	27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.
28 Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: "Ceci a été immolé en sacrifice", n'en mangez pas, à cause decelui qui vous a prévenus, et par motif de conscience.	28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-
29 Par conscience j'entends non la vôtre, mais celle d'autrui; car pourquoi ma liberté relèverait-elle du jugement d'une conscience étrangère?	29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?
30 Si je prends quelque chose en rendant grâce, pourquoi serais-je blâmé pour ce dont je rendsgrâce?	30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?
31 Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, et quoi que vous fassiez, faites tout pourla gloire de Dieu.	31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.
32 Ne donnez scandale ni aux Juifs, ni aux Grecs, ni à l'Eglise de Dieu,	32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,
33 tout comme moi je m'efforce de plaire en tout à tous, ne recherchant pas mon propre intérêt,mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.	33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.
