GREEK BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
κυριε παντοκρατωρ ο θεος ισραηλ ψυχη εν στενοις και πνευμα ακηδιων κεκραγεν προς σε1 "LORD Almighty, God of Israel, afflicted souls and dismayed spirits call to you.
ακουσον κυριε και ελεησον οτι ημαρτομεν εναντιον σου2 Hear, O LORD, for you are a God of mercy; and have mercy on us, who have sinned against you:
οτι συ καθημενος τον αιωνα και ημεις απολλυμενοι τον αιωνα3 for you are enthroned forever, while we are perishing forever.
κυριε παντοκρατωρ ο θεος ισραηλ ακουσον δη της προσευχης των τεθνηκοτων ισραηλ και υιων των αμαρτανοντων εναντιον σου οι ουκ ηκουσαν της φωνης κυριου θεου αυτων και εκολληθη ημιν τα κακα4 LORD Almighty, God of Israel, hear the prayer of Israel's few, the sons of those who sinned against you; they did not heed the voice of the LORD, their God, and the evils cling to us.
μη μνησθης αδικιων πατερων ημων αλλα μνησθητι χειρος σου και ονοματος σου εν τω καιρω τουτω5 Remember at this time not the misdeeds of our fathers, but your own hand and name:
οτι συ κυριος ο θεος ημων και αινεσομεν σε κυριε6 for you are the LORD our God; and you, O LORD, we will praise!
οτι δια τουτο εδωκας τον φοβον σου επι καρδιαν ημων του επικαλεισθαι το ονομα σου και αινεσομεν σε εν τη αποικια ημων οτι απεστρεψαμεν απο καρδιας ημων πασαν αδικιαν πατερων ημων των ημαρτηκοτων εναντιον σου7 For this, you put into our hearts the fear of you: that we may call upon your name, and praise you in our captivity, when we have removed from our hearts all the wickedness of our fathers who sinned against you.
ιδου ημεις σημερον εν τη αποικια ημων ου διεσπειρας ημας εκει εις ονειδισμον και εις αραν και εις οφλησιν κατα πασας τας αδικιας πατερων ημων οι απεστησαν απο κυριου θεου ημων8 Behold us today in our captivity, where you scattered us, a reproach, a curse, and a requital for all the misdeeds of our fathers, who withdrew from the LORD, our God."
ακουε ισραηλ εντολας ζωης ενωτισασθε γνωναι φρονησιν9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: listen, and know prudence!
τι εστιν ισραηλ τι οτι εν γη των εχθρων ει επαλαιωθης εν γη αλλοτρια10 How is it, Israel, that you are in the land of your foes, grown old in a foreign land, Defiled with the dead,
συνεμιανθης τοις νεκροις προσελογισθης μετα των εις αδου11 accounted with those destined for the nether world?
εγκατελιπες την πηγην της σοφιας12 You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!
τη οδω του θεου ει επορευθης κατωκεις αν εν ειρηνη τον αιωνα13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would have dwelt in enduring peace.
μαθε που εστιν φρονησις που εστιν ισχυς που εστιν συνεσις του γνωναι αμα που εστιν μακροβιωσις και ζωη που εστιν φως οφθαλμων και ειρηνη14 Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; That you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace.
τις ευρεν τον τοπον αυτης και τις εισηλθεν εις τους θησαυρους αυτης15 Who has found the place of wisdom, who has entered into her treasuries?
που εισιν οι αρχοντες των εθνων και οι κυριευοντες των θηριων των επι της γης16 Where are the rulers of the nations, they who lorded it over the wild beasts of the earth,
οι εν τοις ορνεοις του ουρανου εμπαιζοντες και το αργυριον θησαυριζοντες και το χρυσιον ω επεποιθεισαν ανθρωποι και ουκ εστιν τελος της κτησεως αυτων17 and made sport of the birds of the heavens: They who heaped up the silver and the gold in which men trust; of whose possessions there was no end?
οι το αργυριον τεκταινοντες και μεριμνωντες και ουκ εστιν εξευρεσις των εργων αυτων18 They schemed anxiously for money, but there is no trace of their work:
ηφανισθησαν και εις αδου κατεβησαν και αλλοι αντανεστησαν αντ' αυτων19 They have vanished down into the nether world, and others have risen up in their stead.
νεωτεροι ειδον φως και κατωκησαν επι της γης οδον δε επιστημης ουκ εγνωσαν20 Later generations have seen the light, have dwelt in the land, But the way to understanding they have not known,
ουδε συνηκαν τριβους αυτης ουδε αντελαβοντο αυτης οι υιοι αυτων απο της οδου αυτων πορρω εγενηθησαν21 they have not perceived her paths, or reached her; their offspring were far from the way to her.
ουδε ηκουσθη εν χανααν ουδε ωφθη εν θαιμαν22 She has not been heard of in Canaan, nor seen in Teman.
ουτε υιοι αγαρ οι εκζητουντες την συνεσιν επι της γης οι εμποροι της μερραν και θαιμαν οι μυθολογοι και οι εκζητηται της συνεσεως οδον της σοφιας ουκ εγνωσαν ουδε εμνησθησαν τας τριβους αυτης23 The sons of Hagar who seek knowledge on earth, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the phrasemakers seeking knowledge, These have not known the way to wisdom, nor have they her paths in mind.
ω ισραηλ ως μεγας ο οικος του θεου και επιμηκης ο τοπος της κτησεως αυτου24 O Israel, how vast is the house of God, how broad the scope of his dominion:
μεγας και ουκ εχει τελευτην υψηλος και αμετρητος25 Vast and endless, high and immeasurable!
εκει εγεννηθησαν οι γιγαντες οι ονομαστοι οι απ' αρχης γενομενοι ευμεγεθεις επισταμενοι πολεμον26 In it were born the giants, renowned at the first, stalwarts, skilled in war.
ου τουτους εξελεξατο ο θεος ουδε οδον επιστημης εδωκεν αυτοις27 Not these did God choose, nor did he give them the way of understanding;
και απωλοντο παρα το μη εχειν φρονησιν απωλοντο δια την αβουλιαν αυτων28 They perished for lack of prudence, perished through their folly.
τις ανεβη εις τον ουρανον και ελαβεν αυτην και κατεβιβασεν αυτην εκ των νεφελων29 Who has gone up to the heavens and taken her, or brought her down from the clouds?
τις διεβη περαν της θαλασσης και ευρεν αυτην και οισει αυτην χρυσιου εκλεκτου30 Who has crossed the sea and found her, bearing her away rather than choice gold?
ουκ εστιν ο γινωσκων την οδον αυτης ουδε ο ενθυμουμενος την τριβον αυτης31 None knows the way to her, nor has any understood her paths.
αλλα ο ειδως τα παντα γινωσκει αυτην εξευρεν αυτην τη συνεσει αυτου ο κατασκευασας την γην εις τον αιωνα χρονον ενεπλησεν αυτην κτηνων τετραποδων32 Yet he who knows all things knows her; he has probed her by his knowledge-- He who established the earth for all time, and filled it with four-footed beasts;
ο αποστελλων το φως και πορευεται εκαλεσεν αυτο και υπηκουσεν αυτω τρομω33 He who dismisses the light, and it departs, calls it, and it obeys him trembling;
οι δε αστερες ελαμψαν εν ταις φυλακαις αυτων και ευφρανθησαν34 Before whom the stars at their posts shine and rejoice;
εκαλεσεν αυτους και ειπον παρεσμεν ελαμψαν μετ' ευφροσυνης τω ποιησαντι αυτους35 When he calls them, they answer, "Here we are!" shining with joy for their Maker.
ουτος ο θεος ημων ου λογισθησεται ετερος προς αυτον36 Such is our God; no other is to be compared to him:
εξευρεν πασαν οδον επιστημης και εδωκεν αυτην ιακωβ τω παιδι αυτου και ισραηλ τω ηγαπημενω υπ' αυτου37 He has traced out all the way of understanding, and has given her to Jacob, his servant, to Israel, his beloved son.
μετα τουτο επι της γης ωφθη και εν τοις ανθρωποις συνανεστραφη38 Since then she has appeared on earth, and moved among men.
