DOUAI-RHEIMSNOVA VULGATA
Know also this, that, in the last days, shall come dangerous times.1 Hoc autem scito, quod in no vissimis diebus instabunt tem pora periculosa.
Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked,2 Erunt enim homines seipsos amantes, cupidi, elati, superbi, blasphemi, parentibus inoboedientes, ingrati, scelesti,
Without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness,3 sine affectione, sine foedere, criminatores, incontinentes, immites, sine benignitate,
Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasures more than of God:4 proditores, protervi, tumidi, voluptatum amatores magis quam Dei,
Having an appearance indeed of godliness, but denying the power thereof. Now these avoid.5 habentes speciem quidem pietatis, virtutem autem eius abnegantes; et hos devita.
For of these sort are they who creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, who are led away with divers desires:6 Ex his enim sunt, qui penetrant domos et captivas ducunt mulierculas oneratas peccatis, quae ducuntur variis concupiscentiis,
Ever learning, and never attaining to the knowledge of the truth.7 semper discentes et numquam ad scientiam veritatis pervenire valentes.
Now as Jannes and Mambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.8 Quemadmodum autem Iannes et Iambres restiterunt Moysi, ita et hi resistunt veritati, homines corrupti mente, reprobi circa fidem;
But they shall proceed no farther; for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.9 sed ultra non proficient, insipientia enim eorum manifesta erit omnibus, sicut et illorum fuit.
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,10 Tu autem assecutus es meam doctrinam, institutionem, propositum, fidem, longanimitatem, dilectionem, patientiam,
Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.11 persecutiones, passiones, qualia mihi facta sunt Antiochiae, Iconii, Lystris, quales persecutiones sustinui; et ex omnibus me eripuit Dominus.
And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.12 Et omnes, qui volunt pie vivere in Christo Iesu, persecutionem patientur;
But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse: erring, and driving into error.13 mali autem homines et seductores proficient in peius, in errorem mittentes et errantes.
But continue thou in those things which thou hast learned, and which have been committed to thee: knowing of whom thou hast learned them;14 Tu vero permane in his, quae didicisti et credita sunt tibi, sciens a quibus didiceris,
And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation, by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.15 et quia ab infantia Sacras Litteras nosti, quae te possunt instruere ad salutem per fidem, quae est in Christo Iesu.
All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice,16 Omnis Scriptura divinitus inspirata est et utilis ad docendum, ad arguendum, ad corrigendum, ad erudiendum in iustitia,
That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.17 ut perfectus sit homo Dei, ad omne opus bonum instructus.
