Sirach 40

DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Great labour is created for all men, and a heavy yoke is upon the children of Adam, from the day of their coming out of their mother's womb, until the day of their burial into the mother of all.	1 Gran travaglio è stato creato per tutti gli uomini, un giogo pesante opprime i figli d'Adamo dal giorno in cui escono dal seno della loro madre fino a che non sono sepolti nel seno della madre comune:
2 Their thoughts, and fears of the heart, their imagination of things to come, and the day of their end:	2 sopraccapi, timori del cuore, preoccupazioni per l'avvenire e il giorno in cui si finisce.
3 From him that sitteth on a glorious throne, unto him that is humbled in earth and ashes:	3 Da chi siede sopra glorioso trono a chi giace sulla polvere e sul la cenere,
4 From him that weareth purple, and beareth the crown, even to him that is covered with rough linen: wrath, envy, trouble, unquietness, and the fear of death, continual anger, and strife,	4 da chi veste di giacinto e porta corona a chi si ricopre di rozza tela di lino, furori, gelosie, tumulti, agitazioni, timori di morte, collere ostinate e contese.
5 And in the time of rest upon his bed, the sleep of the night changeth his knowledge.	5 Ed anche quando è tempo di riposare nel letto, il sonno della notte perturba l'imaginazione.
6 A little and as nothing is his rest, and afterward in sleep, as in the day of keeping watch.	6 Riposa poco o nulla, ed anche nel sonno è come nel giorno in cui è di sentinella.
7 He is troubled in the vision of his heart, as if he had escaped in the day of battle. In the time of his safety he rose up, and wondereth that there is no fear:	7 E' turbato dalle visioni del suo spirito e, come chi fugge nel giorno della battaglia, si sveglia quando è in salvo, e si maraviglia del suo vano timore.
8 Such things happen to all flesh, from man even to beast, and upon sinners are sevenfold mere.	8 Così va per ogni vivente, dall'uomo alla bestia, e sette volte peggio per i peccatori.
9 Moreover, death, and bloodshed, strife, and sword, oppressions, famine, and affliction, and scourges:	9 S'aggiunga la morte, il sangue, le contese, la spada, le oppressioni, la fame, le rovine, i flagelli.
10 All these things are created for the wicked, and for their sakes came the flood.	10 Tutte queste cose furon fatte contro gli iniqui, e per essi venne il diluvio.
11 All things that are of the earth, shall return to the earth again, and all waters shall return to the sea.	11 Tutto quello che vien dalla terra torna alla terra, come tutte le acque ritornano al mare.
12 All bribery, and injustice shall blotted out, and fidelity shall stand for ever.	12 Ogni dono ed ogni ingiustizia perirà, ma la fedeltà sussisterà in eterno.
13 The riches of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, and shall pass sway a noise like a great thunder in rain.	13 I beni degli empi seccheranno come torrente, faran fracasso come gran tuono durante la pioggia.
14 While he openeth his hands he shall rejoice: but transgressors shall pine away in the end.	14 Ci sarà gioia nell'aprir la mano, così i prevaricatori periranno per sempre.
15 The offspring of the ungodly shall not bring forth many branches, and make a noise as unclean roots upon the top of a rock.	15 I rampolli degli empi non moltiplicheranno i loro rami, e le radici immonde fan rumore sulla cima d'un masso.
16 The weed growing over every water, and at the bank of the river, shall be pulled up before all grass.	16 Come erba verde lungo ogni acqua, e sul margine del fiume, è strappata avanti ogni altra erba.
17 Grace is like a paradise in blessings, and mercy remaineth for ever.	17 La benignità è come giardino benedetto, e la misericordia dura in eterno.
18 The life of a labourer that is content with what he hath, shall be sweet, and in it thou shalt find a treasure.	18 La vita dell'operaio contento di sua sorte sarà dolce, e in essa troverai un tesoro.
19 Children, and the building of a city shall establish a name, but a blameless wife shall be counted above them both.	19 I figli e il fondare una città assicurano un nome, ma sarà stimata sopra queste cose una moglie senza macchia.
20 Wine and music rejoice the heart, but the love of wisdom is above them both.	20 Il vino e la musica rallegrano il cuore, ma più di tutte e due l'amore della sapienza.
21 The flute and the psaltery make a sweet melody, but a pleasant tongue is above them both.	21 Il flauto e l'arpa dànno soavi melodie, ma più melodiosa di loro è la lingua soave.
22 Thy eye desireth favour and beauty, but more than these green sown fields.	22 Il tuo occhio desidererà la grazia e la bellezza, ma più di queste cose i verdeggianti seminati.
23 A friend and companion meeting together in season, but above them both is a wife with her husband.	23 L'amico e il compagno nell'occasione sono di aiuto, ma supera l'uno e l'altro la moglie unita al marito.
24 Brethren are a help in the time of trouble, but mercy shall deliver more than they.	24 I fratelli vengono in soccorso nel tempo della sventura, ma più di loro salverà la misericordia.
25 Gold and silver make the feet stand sure: but wise counsel is above them both.	25 L'oro e l'argento fanno star bene in piedi, ma più di tutti e due un buon consiglio.
26 Riches and strength lift up the heart: but above these is the fear of the Lord.	26 La ricchezza e la forza esaltano il cuore, ma più di queste cose il timor di Dio.
27 There is no want in the fear of the Lord, and it needeth not to seek for help.	27 Nel timor di Dio non manca nulla, e con esso non c'è bisogno di cercare aiuto.
28 The fear of the Lord is like a paradise of blessing, and they have covered it above all glory.	28 Il timore del Signore è come giardino benedetto, or nato di magnificenza senza pari.
29 My son, in thy lifetime be not indigent: for it is better to die than to want.	29 Figlio, nel tempo della tua vita non ti ridurre all'elemosina; meglio morire che mendicare.
30 The life of him that looketh toward another man's table is not to be counted a life: for he feedeth his soul with another man's meat.	30 L'uomo che guarda all'altrui mensa non impiega la sua vita a pensare al vitto e si nutrisce di viveri altrui.
31 But a man, well instructed and taught, will look to himself.	31 Ma l'uomo educa to e saggio si guarderà da questo.
32 Begging will be sweet in the mouth of the unwise, but in his belly there shall burn a fire.	32 Alla bocca dello stolto sarà dolce il chiedere l'elemosina, ma nel ventre di lui arderà il fuoco.
