And Moab rebelled against Israel, after the death of Achab.1 Tendo morrido Acab, Moab revoltou-se contra Israel.
And Ochozias fell through the lattices of his upper chamber which he had in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, saying to them: Go, consult Beelzebub, the god of Accaron, whether I shall recover of this my illness.2 Ocozias, que se encontrava em seu quarto alto, na Samaria, caiu da janela e feriu-se gravemente. Enviou então mensageiros, aos quais disse: Ide consultar Baal-Zebub, deus de Acaron, para saber se serei curado de meu mal.
And an angel of the Lord spoke to Elias the Thesbite, saying: Arise, and go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them: Is there not a God in Israel, that ye go to consult Beelzebub the god of Accaron?3 Mas o anjo do Senhor falou a Elias, o tesbita: Sobe ao encontro dos mensageiros do rei de Samaria, e dize-lhes: Não há porventura um Deus em Israel, para irdes consultar Baal-Zebub, deus de Acaron?
Wherefore thus saith the Lord: From the bed, on which thou art gone up, thou shalt not come down, but thou shalt surely die. And Elias went away.4 Por isso eis o que diz o Senhor: Não te levantarás do leito a que subiste, mas morrerás. E Elias partiu.
And the messengers turned back to Ochozias. And he said to them: Why are you come back?5 Os mensageiros voltaram para Ocozias, e este lhes perguntou: Por que voltais?
But they answered him: A man met us, and said to us: Go, and return to the king, that sent you, and you shall say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Is it because there was no God in Israel that thou sendest to Beelzebub the god of Accaron? Therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed, on which thou art gone up, but then shalt surely die.6 Eles responderam: Um homem nos veio ao encontro e nos disse: Ide, voltai para o vosso rei e dizei-lhe: Isto diz o Senhor: Não há porventura Deus em Israel, para que mandes consultar Baal-Zebub, deus de Acaron? Por isso não te levantarás do leito a que subiste; vais morrer.
And he said to them: What manner of man was he who met you, and spoke these words?7 Ocozias disse-lhes: Como era esse homem que veio ao vosso encontro e vos falou desse modo?
But they said: A hairy man with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said: It is Elias the Thesbite.8 Era um homem coberto de pelos, responderam-lhe, que trazia uma cinta de couro em volta dos rins. O rei disse: É Elias, o tesbita.
And he sent to him a captain of fifty, and the fifty men that were under him. And he went up to him, and as he was sitting on the top of a hill, said to him: Man of God, the king hath commanded that thou come down.9 Imediatamente enviou-lhe o rei um chefe com seus cinqüenta homens. Este foi ter com Elias, que estava sentado no cimo dum monte, e disse-lhe: Ó homem de Deus, desce depressa, pois é ordem do rei.
And Elias answering, said to the captain of fifty: If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee, and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him, and the fifty that were with him.10 Elias respondeu: Se sou um homem de Deus, venha fogo do céu e vos devore, a ti e aos teus cinqüenta homens. E o fogo, caindo do céu, devorou o chefe e seus cinqüenta homens.
And again he sent to him another captain of fifty men, and his fifty with him. And he said to him: Man of God, thus saith the king: Make haste and come down.11 O rei mandou outro chefe com os seus cinqüenta homens, o qual, chegando aonde estava Elias, lhe disse; Ó homem de Deus, esta é a ordem do rei: desce imediatamente.
Elias answering, said: If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And fire came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.12 Se sou um homem de Deus, respondeu Elias, venha fogo do céu e te devore com os teus cinqüenta homens. E o fogo, caindo do céu, devorou o chefe e seus cinqüenta homens.
Again he sent a third captain of fifty men, and the fifty that were with him. And when he was come, he fell upon his knees, before Elias, and besought him and said: Man of God, despise not my life, and the lives of thy servants that are with me.13 Pela terceira vez, mandou o rei um chefe com os seus cinqüenta homens, o qual, chegando aonde estava Elias, pôs-se de joelhos e suplicou-lhe, dizendo: Peço-te, ó homem de Deus, que a minha vida tenha algum valor aos teus olhos e a destes cinqüenta homens teus servos.
Behold fire came down from heaven, and consumed the two first captains of fifty men, and the fifties that were with them: but now I beseech thee to spare my life.14 Veio fogo do céu e devorou os dois primeiros chefes; mas, agora, que minha vida tenha algum valor aos teus olhos!
And the angel of the Lord spoke to Elias, saying: Go down with him, fear not. He arose therefore, and went down with him to the king,15 O anjo do Senhor disse a Elias: Desce com este homem; não temas. Elias levantou-se e desceu com ele à casa do rei.
And said to him: Thus saith the Lord: Because thou hast sent messengers to consult Beelzebub the god of Accaron, as though there were not a God in Israel, of whom thou mightest inquire the word; therefore from the bed on which thou art gone up, thou shalt not come down, but thou shalt surely die.16 Disse-lhe: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Porque enviaste mensageiros a consultar Baal-Zebub, deus de Acaron, não te levantarás mais do leito a que subiste; mas morrerás.
So he died according to the word of the Lord which Elias spoke, and Joram his brother reigned in his stead, in the second year of Joram the son of Josaphat king of Juda: because he had no son.17 Ocozias morreu, segundo a palavra que o Senhor tinha dito pelo profeta Elias, e seu irmão Jorão sucedeu-lhe o trono, no segundo ano de Jorão, filho de Josafá, rei de Judá, porque Ocozias não tinha filhos.
But the rest of the acts of Ochozias which he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?18 O resto da história de Ocozias e suas ações, tudo está consignado no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel.
