EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cinco días después, el Sumo Sacerdote Ananías bajó con algunos ancianos y un abogado llamado Tértulo, para presentar delante del gobernador la acusación que tenían contra Pablo.	1 Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some of the elders and an advocate namedTertul us, and they laid information against Paul before the governor.
2 Hicieron comparecer a Pablo, y Tértulo presentó la acusación en estos términos: «Excelentísimo Félix: La profunda paz de que gozamos gracias a ti y las reformas que nuestra nación debe a tu gobierno,	2 Paul was called, and Tertullus opened for the prosecution, 'Your Excel ency, Felix, the unbroken peacewe enjoy and the reforms this nation owes to your foresight
3 constituyen para nosotros, siempre y en todas partes, un motivo de inmensa gratitud.	3 are matters we accept, always and everywhere, with al gratitude.
4 Como no queremos importunarte demasiado, te ruego que nos escuches un momento con tu habitual cordialidad.	4 I do not want to take up too much of your time, but I urge you in your graciousness to give us a briefhearing.
5 Hemos comprobado que este hombre es una verdadera peste: él suscita disturbios entre todos los judíos del mundo y es uno de los dirigentes de la secta de los nazarenos.	5 We have found this man a perfect pest; he stirs up trouble among Jews the world over and is aringleader of the Nazarene sect.
6 Ha intentado incluso profanar el Templo, y por eso, nosotros lo detuvimos. Queríamos juzgarlo de acuerdo con nuestra Ley,	6 He has even attempted to profane the Temple. We placed him under arrest.
7 pero intervino el tribuno Lisias, que lo arrancó violentamente de nuestras manos	7 'I know that you have administered justice over this nation for many years, and I can therefore speakwith confidence in my defence.
8 y ordenó a sus acusadores que comparecieran delante de ti. Si lo interrogas, tú mismo reconocerás que nuestros cargos contra él son bien fundados».	8 If you ask him you can find out for yourself the truth of al our accusations against this man.'
9 Los judíos ratificaron esto, asegurando que era verdad.	9 The Jews supported him, asserting that these were the facts.
10 Cuando el gobernador hizo señas a Pablo de que hablara, este respondió: «Con entera confianza voy a defender mi causa, por sé que gobiernas esta nación desde hace varios años.	10 When the governor motioned him to speak, Paul answered:
11 Como tú mismo puedes averiguarlo, no hace todavía doce días que subí en peregrinación a Jerusalén	11 As you can verify for yourself, it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem onpilgrimage,
12 y nunca se me vio ni en el Templo, ni en las sinagogas, ni en la ciudad, discutiendo con alguien o amotinando a la gente.	12 and it is not true that they ever found me arguing with anyone or stirring up the mob, either in theTemple, in the synagogues, or about the town;
13 Ellos tampoco pueden probarte aquello de lo que me acusan ahora.	13 neither can they give you any proof of the accusations they are making against me now.
14 Pero sí te confieso que sirvo al Dios de mis padres, siguiendo el Camino que mis acusadores consideran una secta. Creo en todo lo que está contenido en la Ley y escrito en los Profetas,	14 'What I do admit to you is this: it is according to the Way, which they describe as a sect, that I worshipthe God of my ancestors, retaining my belief in al points of the Law and in what is written in the prophets;
15 y tengo la misma esperanza en Dios que ellos tienen: la esperanza de que habrá una resurrección de justos y pecadores.	15 and I hold the same hope in God as they do that there will be a resurrection of the upright and thewicked alike.
16 Por eso trato de conservar siempre una conciencia irreprochable delante de Dios y de los hombres.	16 In these things, I, as much as they, do my best to keep a clear conscience at al times before God andeveryone.
17 Después de unos cuantos años, vine a traer limosnas a mis compatriotas y a presentar ofrendas.	17 'After several years I came to bring relief-money to my nation and to make offerings;
18 Así fue cómo algunos judíos de la provincia de Asia me encontraron en el Templo: yo me había purificado y no estaba provocando ninguna clase de amotinamiento ni de tumulto.	18 it was in connection with these that they found me in the Temple; I had been purified, and there wasno crowd involved, and no disturbance.
19 Son ellos los que hubieran debido presentarse ante ti para acusarme, si tenían alguna queja contra mí.	19 But some Jews from Asia -- these are the ones who should have appeared before you and accusedme of whatever they had against me.
20 Por lo menos, que digan los que están aquí de qué delito me encontraron culpable cuando comparecí delante del Sanedrín.	20 At least let those who are present say what crime they held against me when I stood before theSanhedrin,
21 A no ser que se trate de lo único que dije, puesto de pie en medio de ellos: «Hoy ustedes me juzgan a causa de la resurrección de los muertos».	21 unless it were to do with this single claim, when I stood up among them and cal ed out, "It is about theresurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today." '
22 Félix, que estaba muy bien informado de todo lo concerniente al Camino del Señor, postergó la causa, diciendo: «Cuando descienda de Jerusalén el tribuno Lisias, me expediré en este asunto».	22 At this, Felix, who was fairly well informed about the Way, adjourned the case, saying, 'When Lysiasthe tribune comes down I will give judgement about your case.'
23 Después ordenó al centurión que custodiara a Pablo, pero dejándole una cierta libertad y sin impedir que sus amigos lo atendieran.	23 He then gave orders to the centurion that Paul should be kept under arrest but free from restriction,and that none of his own people should be prevented from seeing to his needs.
24 Algunos días después, se presentó Félix con su mujer Drusila, que era judía. El mandó llamar a Pablo y lo oyó hablar acerca de la fe en Jesucristo.	24 Some days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and gave him ahearing on the subject of faith in Christ Jesus.
25 Pero cuando Pablo se puso a tratar sobre la justicia, la continencia y el juicio futuro, Félix, lleno de temor, le respondió: «Por ahora puedes irte; te volveré a llamar en la primera ocasión».	25 But when Paul began to treat of uprightness, self-control and the coming Judgement, Felix took frightand said, 'You may go for the present; I wil send for you when I find it convenient.'
26 Al mismo tiempo, él esperaba que Pablo le diera dinero, y por eso lo hacía llamar frecuentemente para conversar con él.	26 At the same time he had hopes of receiving money from Paul, and for this reason he sent for himfrequently and had talks with him.
27 Al cabo de dos años, Porcio Festo sucedió a Félix; y como este quería congraciarse con los judíos, dejó a Pablo en la prisión.	27 When two years came to an end, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus and, being anxious to gainfavour with the Jews, Felix left Paul in custody.
