EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Todo Israel se congregó junto a David en Hebrón y le dijeron: «¡Nosotros somos de tu misma sangre!	1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.
2 Ya desde antes, incluso cuando Saúl reinaba sobre nosotros, eras tú el que conducía a Israel. Y ahora el Señor te ha dicho: "¡Tú apacentarás a mi pueblo Israel, tu serás el jefe de mi pueblo Israel!"».	2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '
3 Todos los ancianos de Israel fueron a Hebrón, donde estaba el rey: David estableció una alianza con ellos en Hebrón, en presencia del Señor, y ellos lo ungieron como rey sobre Israel, conforme el Señor lo había anunciado por medio de Samuel.	3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.
4 David, con todo Israel, avanzó sobre Jerusalén –es decir, Jebús– donde estaban los jebuseos, que habitaban el país,	4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.
5 pero estos le dijeron: «¡Aquí no podrás entrar!». A pesar de eso, David conquistó la fortaleza de Sión, que es la Ciudad de David.	5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.
6 David había dicho: «El primero que mate a un jebuseo será comandante en jefe». Joab, hijo de Seruiá, fue el primero en subir y se convirtió en jefe.	6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' Joab son ofZeruiah was the first man to go up, and was made commander of the army.
7 David se instaló en la fortaleza, y por eso la llamaron «Ciudad de David».	7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.
8 Luego construyó la ciudad en derredor, desde el Miló hasta los alrededores, y Joab restauró el resto de la ciudad.	8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.
9 Así David se iba engrandeciendo cada vez más, y el Señor de los ejércitos estaba con él.	9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.
10 Estos son los jefes de los Guerreros de David, que lo sostuvieron durante su reinado, y se unieron a todo Israel para hacerlo rey, conforme a la palabra del Señor acerca de Israel.	10 These are David's principal champions who joined forces with him in his kingdom, with al Israel, tomake him king in accordance with the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.

13 Este estaba con David en Pas Damín, donde los filisteos se habían concentrado para el combate. Allí había una parcela de campo toda sembrada de cebada, y el pueblo huyó delante de los filisteos.	13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.
14 Pero él se apostó en medio del campo, lo defendió y derrotó a los filisteos, Así el Señor alcanzó una gran victoria.	14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.
15 Tres de los Treinta bajaron juntos a la peña de la cueva de Adulam, donde estaba David, mientras los filisteos acampaban en el valle de Refaím.	15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.
16 David se encontraba entonces en el refugio y una guarnición filistea estaba en Belén.	16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.
17 David manifestó este deseo: «¡Quién me diera de beber agua del pozo que está junto a la puerta de Belén!».	17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'
18 Los Tres Valientes irrumpieron en el campamento filisteo, sacaron agua del pozo que está junto a la puerta de Belén y se la llevaron a David. Pero él no quiso beberla y la derramó como libación al Señor,	18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.
19 diciendo: «¡Líbreme Dios de hacer tal cosa! ¿Voy a beber la sangre de estos hombres, al precio de su vida? Ellos la han traído, arriesgando su vida». Y no quiso beber. Esto es lo que hicieron los Tres Valientes.	19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.
20 Abisai, hermano de Joab, era el jefe de los Treinta. El empuñó su lanza contra trescientos hombres y los mató, ganándose un renombre entre los Treinta.	20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.
