1 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Afek, tandis que les Israélites campaient à côté de la source qui se trouve dans la plaine de Yizréel.	1 Now all the troops of the Philistines were gathered together to Aphec: and Israel also camped by the fountain which is in Jezrahel.
2 Les chefs des Philistins défilaient avec leurs groupes de cent et de mille; David et ses hommes étaient à l’arrière-garde avec Akich.	2 And the lords of the Philistines marched with their hundreds and their thousands: but David and his men were in the rear with Achis.
3 Les chefs des Philistins demandèrent à Akich: “Qui sont ces Hébreux?” Akich leur répondit: “Mais c’est David, le serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël. Depuis longtemps, deux ans peut-être, il est chez moi, et je n’ai jamais eu à me plaindre de lui depuis qu’il est passé de mon côté.”	3 And the princes of the Philistines said to Achis: What mean these Hebrews? And Achis said to the princes of the Philistines: Do you not know David, who was the servant of Saul the king of Israel, and hath been with me many days, or years, and I have found no fault in him, since the day that he fled over to me until this day?
4 Les chefs des Philistins se mirent en colère contre Akich, ils lui dirent: “Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne d’où il vient! Qu’il ne vienne pas avec nous à la bataille, il pourrait bien se retourner contre nous. Comment pourrait-il acheter le pardon de son maître, sinon avec les têtes de nos hommes?	4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him, and they said to him: Let this man return, and abide in his place, which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest he be an adversary to us, when we shall begin to fight: for how can he otherwise appease his master, but with our heads?
5 N’est-ce pas à propos de ce David que l’on dansait en chantant: Saül en a tué mille, mais David en a tué dix mille?”	5 Is not this David, to whom they sung in their dances, saying: Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
6 Akich appela donc David et lui dit: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, tu es un homme droit. Pour ma part, je suis heureux que tu sois ici avec moi, car tu n’as mérité aucun reproche depuis que tu es arrivé jusqu’à maintenant, mais tu es très mal vu des chefs.	6 Then Achis called David, and said to him: As the Lord liveth, thou art upright and good in my sight: and so is thy going out, and thy coming in with me in the army: and I have not found my evil in thee, since the day that thou camest to me unto this day: but thou pleasest not the lords.
7 Retourne donc, va-t’en en paix et n’indisposons pas les chefs des Philistins.”	7 Return therefore, and go in peace, and offend not the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.
8 David dit à Akich: “Qu’ai-je donc fait? Qu’as-tu à reprocher à ton serviteur depuis que je suis venu jusqu’à maintenant, pour que tu me refuses de combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?”	8 And David said to Achis: But what have I done, and what hast thou found in me thy servant, from the day that I have been in thy sight until this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
9 Akich répondit à David: “Je le sais, tu es aussi sûr pour nous qu’un ange de Dieu, mais les chefs des Philistins ont décidé que tu ne viendrais pas avec nous à la bataille.	9 And Achis answering said to David: I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: but the princes of the Philistines have said: He shall not go up with us to the battle.
10 Levez-vous donc de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi, et retournez à l’endroit que je vous ai assigné. Ne le prends pas mal, tu sais que je t’estime. Demain matin vous vous lèverez tôt, et dès que le jour se lèvera vous partirez.”	10 Therefore arise in the morning, thou, and the servants of thy lord, who came with thee: and when you are up before day, and it shall begin to be light, go on your way.
11 David et ses hommes se levèrent donc de bonne heure; dès le matin ils repartirent pour le pays des Philistins; quant aux Philistins, ils montèrent vers Yizréel.	11 So David and his men arose in the night, that they might set forward in the morning, and returned to the land of the Philistines: and the Philistines went up to Jezrahel.
