1 Les prêtres, les lévites, en un mot toute la tribu de Lévi, n’auront ni part, ni héritage au milieu d’Israël. Ils mangeront sur les sacrifices offerts à Yahvé et sur les offrandes.	1 “The priests and the Levites, and all who are from the same tribe, shall have no portion or inheritance with the rest of Israel. For they shall eat the sacrifices of the Lord and his oblations.
2 Lévi n’a pas d’héritage au milieu de ses frères, car Yahvé est son héritage, comme il le lui a dit.	2 And they shall receive nothing else from the possession of their brothers. For the Lord himself is their inheritance, just as he said to them.
3 Voici quel sera le droit des prêtres vis-à-vis du peuple. Si on offre en sacrifice un bœuf ou un mouton, on donnera au prêtre l’épaule, les mâchoires et la panse.	3 This shall be the recompense for the priests from the people, and from those who offer victims, whether they will immolate an ox or a sheep. They shall give to the priest the shoulder and the breast,
4 Tu lui donneras les prémices de ton blé, de ton vin et de ton huile, et les prémices de la laine de ton petit bétail;	4 the first-fruits of grain, wine, and oil, and a portion of the wool from the shearing of the sheep.
5 car Yahvé ton Dieu l’a choisi parmi toutes les tribus pour que ses fils soient tous les jours au service de son Nom.	5 For the Lord your God himself has chosen him out of all your tribes, so that he may stand and minister to the name of the Lord, him and his sons, forever.
6 Si un Lévite, quelle que soit la ville où il réside en Israël, désire s’installer au lieu que Yahvé aura choisi,	6 If a Levite departs from one of the cities, throughout all of Israel, in which he lives, and if he wills and desires to go to the place which the Lord will choose,
7 il pourra se mettre au service du Nom de Yahvé son Dieu, comme tous ses frères lévites qui se tiennent là au service de Yahvé.	7 he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as do all his brothers, the Levites, who will be standing at that time in the sight of the Lord.
8 Il recevra avec eux sa part de nourriture, en plus des produits de son patrimoine.	8 He shall receive the same portion of food as the rest also receive, besides that which is due to him in his own city, by succession from his fathers.
9 Lorsque tu seras entré dans le pays que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne, tu ne suivras pas les coutumes abominables des nations.	9 When you will have entered into the land which the Lord your God will give to you, be careful that you are not willing to imitate the abominations of those nations.
10 On ne trouvera personne chez toi qui fasse passer son fils ou sa fille par le feu, ou qui pratique la divination ou l’astrologie, la magie ou la sorcellerie;	10 Do not let there be found among you one who would purify his son or daughter by leading them through fire, nor one who consults seers, nor one who observes dreams or omens. Do not let there be found among you one who practices the occult,
11 personne qui se livre à la superstition, qui consulte les esprits ou les augures et interroge les morts.	11 nor one who uses spells, nor one who consults demonic spirits, nor a diviner, nor one who seeks the truth from the dead.
12 Yahvé a en horreur celui qui agit de la sorte, et c’est bien à cause de ces pratiques abominables que Yahvé ton Dieu dépossède ces peuplades devant toi.	12 For the Lord abominates all these things. And, because of these wicked ways, he will destroy them at your arrival.
13 Tu seras donc sans reproche au regard de Yahvé ton Dieu.	13 You shall be perfect and without blemish with the Lord your God.
14 Ces peuplades que tu vas dépouiller écoutent des devins et des magiciens, mais à toi, Yahvé ton Dieu t’a donné quelque chose d’autre.	14 These nations, whose land you shall possess, they listen to soothsayers and diviners. But you have been otherwise instructed by the Lord your God.
15 Du milieu de toi, du milieu de tes frères, Yahvé ton Dieu fera que se lève pour toi un prophète comme moi, et c’est lui que vous écouterez.	15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a PROPHET from your nation and from your brothers, similar to me. You shall listen to him,
16 C’est bien ce que tu as demandé à Yahvé ton Dieu au jour de l’assemblée, au mont Horeb. Tu as dit: “Je ne peux pas supporter plus longtemps la voix de Yahvé mon Dieu et ce feu terrible; un peu plus et je meurs!”	16 just as you petitioned of the Lord your God at Horeb, when the assembly was gathered together, and you said: ‘Let me no longer hear the voice of the Lord my God, and let me no longer see this very great fire, lest I die.’
17 Alors Yahvé m’a dit: “Voilà une parole juste. C’est pourquoi, du milieu de leurs frères,	17 And the Lord said to me: ‘They have spoken all these things well.
18 je ferai que se lève pour eux un prophète comme toi et je mettrai mes paroles dans sa bouche. Et lui leur dira tout ce que je lui commanderai.	18 I will raise up a prophet for them, from the midst of their brothers, similar to you. And I will place my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all the things that I will instruct him.
19 Si quelqu’un n’écoute pas ce que le prophète dira en mon nom, je lui en demanderai compte.	19 But against anyone who is not willing to listen to his words, which he will speak in my name, I will stand forth as the avenger.
20 Mais si un prophète ose dire en mon nom une parole que je ne lui ai pas commandé de dire, ou s’il parle au nom d’autres dieux, je le ferai mourir.”	20 But if a prophet, having been corrupted by arrogance, chooses to speak, in my name, things which I did not instruct him to say, or to speak in the name of foreign gods, he shall be put to death.
21 Tu te demanderas sans doute: “Comment reconnaîtrons-nous la parole qui ne vient pas de Yahvé?”	21 But if, in silent thought, you respond: “How will I be able to recognize a word which the Lord has not spoken?”
22 Si le prophète parle au nom de Yahvé et que sa prédiction ne se réalise pas, c’est la preuve que cette parole ne vient pas de Yahvé; ce prophète a parlé comme un prétentieux, tu n’auras donc pas peur de lui.	22 you shall have this sign. If whatever that prophet predicts in the name of the Lord does not happen, then the Lord has not spoken it. Instead, the prophet has formed it through the swelling of his own mind. And for this reason, you shall not fear him.’ ”
