1 Al maestro di coro. Salmo. Di Davide,	1 For the leader. A psalm of David,
2 quando si presentò a lui il profeta Natan a causa del suo peccato con Betsabea.	2 when Nathan the prophet came to him after his affair with Bathsheba.
3 Abbi pietà di me, o Dio, secondo la tua misericordia, nella tua grande bontà cancella il mio peccato;	3 Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness; in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.
4 lavami da tutte le mie colpe, mondami dal mio peccato.	4 Wash away all my guilt; from my sin cleanse me.
5 La mia colpa io conosco, il mio peccato mi sta sempre dinanzi.	5 For I know my offense; my sin is always before me.
6 Contro te, contro te solo ho peccato, quello che ai tuoi occhi è male, io l'ho fatto; affinché tu appaia giusto nella tua sentenza, retto nel tuo giudizio.	6 Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight That you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.
7 Ecco: nella colpa sono stato generato, nel peccato mi ha concepito mia madre.	7 True, I was born guilty, a sinner, even as my mother conceived me.
8 Ecco: sincerità tu vuoi nell'intimo e sapienza tu m'insegni nel segreto.	8 Still, you insist on sincerity of heart; in my inmost being teach me wisdom.
9 Purificami con l'issopo e sarò mondo, lavami e sarò più bianco della neve.	9 Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be pure; wash me, make me whiter than snow.
10 Fammi risentire gioia e letizia, fa' che esultino le ossa che hai fiaccato.	10 Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
11 Distogli lo sguardo dai miei peccati, cancella tutte le mie colpe.	11 Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my guilt.
12 Un cuore puro crea in me, o Dio, in me rinnova uno spirito saldo.	12 A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit.
13 Non respingermi dalla tua presenza, non privarmi del tuo santo spirito.	13 Do not drive me from your presence, nor take from me your holy spirit.
14 Rendimi la gioia della tua salvezza, mi sostenga un animo generoso.	14 Restore my joy in your salvation; sustain in me a willing spirit.
15 Insegnerò agli erranti le tue vie e a te ritorneranno i peccatori.	15 I will teach the wicked your ways, that sinners may return to you.
16 Liberami dal sangue, o Dio, Dio della mia salvezza: la mia lingua esalti la tua giustizia.	16 Rescue me from death, God, my saving God, that my tongue may praise your healing power.
17 Apri le mie labbra, o Signore, e la mia bocca annunzi la tua lode.	17 Lord, open my lips; my mouth will proclaim your praise.
18 Poiché il sacrificio tu non gradisci e se offro l'olocausto, tu non l'accetti.	18 For you do not desire sacrifice; a burnt offering you would not accept.
19 Il mio sacrificio, o Dio, è uno spirito contrito, un cuore contrito e umiliato tu non disprezzi, o Dio.	19 My sacrifice, God, is a broken spirit; God, do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.
20 Nella tua benevolenza sii propizio a Sion, riedifica le mura di Gerusalemme.	20 Make Zion prosper in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
21 Allora gradirai di nuovo i sacrifici legittimi, l'olocausto e l'intera oblazione; allora s'immoleranno le vittime sul tuo altare.	21 Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifice, burnt offerings and holocausts; then bullocks will be offered on your altar.
