CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINBIBBIA VOLGARE
Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar wood, and artisans of walls and of wood, so that they might build a house for him.1 E Iram re di Tiro mandò messaggi a David, e legni di cedro, e maestri di mura e di legnami, i quali gli facessero casa.
And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom had been lifted up over his people Israel.2 E conobbe David, che il Signore avea confermato il suo regno sopra Israel; e fu sollevato il regno suo sopra il suo popolo Israel.
Also, David took other wives in Jerusalem. And he conceived sons and daughters.3 E tolse David [altre] mogli in Ierusalem; e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon,4 E questi sono i nomi di quegli che gli nascerono in Ierusalem: Samua ? Sobad e Natan e Salomone,
Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,5 Iebaar ed Elisua ed Elifalet,
as well as Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,6 Noga e Nafeg e Iafia,
Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.7 Ed Elisama e Baaliada ed Elifalet.
Then, hearing that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, all the Philistines ascended so that they might seek him. But when David had heard of it, he went out to meet them.8 E intendendo i Filistei, che aveano unto David re sopra tutto Israel, andarono tutti per trovarlo; la quale cosa udita, David andò loro incontro.
Now the Philistines, arriving, spread out in the Valley of the Rephaim.9 E i Filistei venuti ispartironsi nella valle di Rafaim.
And so David consulted the Lord, saying, “Shall I ascend to the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Ascend, and I will deliver them into your hand.”10 E David domandò consiglio a Dio, dicendo: ascendo io a questi Filistei? e dara'gli tu nelle mie mani? E Iddio gli disse: ascendi, e io gli darò nelle tue mani.
And when they had ascended to Baal-perazim, David struck them there, and he said: “God has divided my enemies by my hand, just as waters are divided.” And therefore the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.11 E andati coloro in Baalfarasim, David gli percosse ivi, e disse: Iddio hae diviso per la mia mano li miei nemici, sì come si divide l'acque; e però fu chiamato quello luogo BAALFARASIM.
And they left behind their gods in that place, and so David ordered them to be burned.12 E lasciarono ivi i loro idii, i quali David comandò che fossero arsi.
And then, at another time, the Philistines invaded, and they spread out in the valley.13 E anco un' altra volta andarono i Filistei, e isparsersi per la valle.
And again, David consulted God. And God said to him: “You shall not ascend after them. Draw away from them. And you shall come against them opposite the balsam trees.14 E anco David domandò consiglio a Dio, e Iddio gli disse: non andare dopo loro, anzi ti parti da loro, e verrai ricontro a loro ai peri.
And when you hear a sound approaching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go forth to war. For God has gone forth before you, so that he may strike down the army of the Philistines.”15 E udendo tu il suono che anderà per la sommità de' peri, allora andrai alla battaglia; però che Iddio uscirà innanzi a te, e percoterà il campo de' Filistei.
Therefore, David did just as God had instructed him. And he struck down the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon as far as Gazera.16 ...da Gabaon insino a Gazera.
And the name of David became well-known in all the regions. And the Lord placed the fear of him over all the nations.17 E allora fu divulgato il nome di David in tutte quelle parti; e diede il Signore la sua paura sopra tutte le genti ( ch' erano incontro a David).
