Galatians 4

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;	1 Digo además que mientras el heredero es menor de edad, en nada se diferencia de un esclavo siendo como es dueño de todo,
2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.	2 sino que está bajo tutores y administradores hasta la fecha fijada por su padre.
3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;	3 Lo mismo nosotros, cuando éramos menores de edad, estábamos esclavizados bajo los elementos del mundo.
4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,	4 Mas cuando llegó la plenitud del tiempo, envió Dios a su Hijo, nacido de mujer, nacido bajo la ley,
5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.	5 para rescatar a los que estaban bajo la ley, para que recibiéramos la adopción filial.
6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';	6 Como sois hijos, Dios envió a nuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama: «¡Abba, Padre!».
7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.	7 Así que ya no eres esclavo, sino hijo; y si eres hijo, eres también heredero por voluntad de Dios.
8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,	8 Pero, en otro tiempo, cuando no conocíais a Dios, erais esclavos de seres que en realidad no son dioses;
9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?	9 mas ahora que habéis conocido a Dios, o, mejor dicho, que Dios os ha conocido, ¿cómo os volvéis de nuevo a esos elementos sin eficacia ni contenido y queréis volver a ser sus esclavos como antes?
10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-	10 Observáis días, meses, estaciones y años;
11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.	11 me hacéis temer que mis fatigas por vosotros hayan sido en vano.
12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;	12 Poneos, por favor, en mi lugar, lo mismo que yo, hermanos, me pongo en el vuestro. En nada me ofendisteis.
13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,	13 Sabéis que la primera vez os anuncié el Evangelio con ocasión de una enfermedad corporal;
14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.	14 con todo, aunque mi estado físico os debió de tentar a ello, no me despreciasteis ni me hicisteis ningún desaire; al contrario, me recibisteis como a un mensajero de Dios, como a Jesucristo en persona.
15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.	15 ¿Dónde ha quedado ahora aquella dicha vuestra? Porque puedo dar testimonio de que, si hubiera sido posible, os habríais sacado los ojos para dármelos.
16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?	16 Y ahora, ¿me he convertido en enemigo vuestro por ser sincero con vosotros?
17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.	17 El interés que muestran por vosotros no es de buena ley; quieren apartaros de mí para que os mostréis más bien seguidores suyos.
18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.	18 Está bien, en cambio, ser objeto de interés para el bien siempre, y no solo cuando estoy ahí con vosotros.
19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;	19 Hijos míos, por quienes vuelvo a sufrir dolores de parto, hasta que Cristo se forme en vosotros.
20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.	20 Quisiera estar ahora entre vosotros y matizar el tono de mi voz, pues con vosotros no encuentro medio.
21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?	21 Decidme vosotros, los que queréis someteros a la ley: ¿no oís lo que dice la ley?
22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.	22 Porque está escrito que Abrahán tuvo dos hijos, uno de la esclava y otro de la libre;
23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.	23 pero el hijo de la esclava nació según la carne y el de la libre en virtud de una promesa.
24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;	24 Estas cosas son una alegoría: aquellas representan dos alianzas. Una, la del monte Sinaí, engendra para la esclavitud, y es Agar;
25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.	25 en efecto, Agar significa la montaña del Sinaí, que está en Arabia, pero corresponde a la Jerusalén actual, pues está sometida a esclavitud junto con sus hijos.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;	26 En cambio, la Jerusalén de arriba es libre; y esa es nuestra madre.
27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.	27 Pues está escrito: Alégrate, estéril, la que no dabas a luz, rompe a gritar de júbilo, la que no tenías dolores de parto, porque serán muchos los hijos de la abandonada; más que los de la que tiene marido.
28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;	28 Pero vosotros, hermanos, sois, como Isaac, hijos de la promesa.
29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.	29 Ahora bien, lo mismo que entonces el que había sido engendrado según la carne perseguía al que había sido engendrado según el Espíritu, así ocurre ahora.
30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.	30 Pero ¿qué dice la Escritura? Expulsa a la esclava y a su hijo, porque no heredará el hijo de la esclava con el hijo de la libre.
31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.	31 Así, pues, hermanos, no somos hijos de la esclava, sino de la libre.
