NEW JERUSALEMBiblija Hrvatski
1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.1 Ne hvali se danom sutrašnjim, jer ne znaš što danas može donijeti.
2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.2 Neka te hvali drugi, a ne tvoja usta,
tuđinac, a ne tvoje usne.
3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.3 Težak je kamen i pijesak je težak,
ali je od obojega teži bezumnikov bijes.
4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?4 Jarost je okrutna i srdžba žestoka,
a tko će odoljeti ljubomoru?
5 Better open reproof than feigned love.5 Bolji je javni ukor
nego lažna ljubav.
6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.6 Čestiti su udarci prijateljevi,
a lažni poljupci neprijateljevi.
7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.7 Sito grlo prezire i med samotok,
a gladnu je i sve gorko – slatko.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.8 Kao ptica daleko od gnijezda svog,
takav je čovjek daleko od svojeg zavičaja.
9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.9 Kao što ulje i kâd vesele srce,
tako i slatkoća prijateljstva tješi dušu.
10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.10 Ne ostavljaj prijatelja svoga ni prijatelja očeva,
i ne dolazi u kuću bratovu kad si u nesreći;
bolji je susjed blizu nego brat daleko.
11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.11 Budi mudar, sine moj, i obraduj mi srce
da mogu odgovoriti onome koji me grdi.
12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.12 Pametan čovjek opazi zlo i skrije se,
a glupaci idu bezbrižno i trpe kaznu.
13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.13 Uzmi haljinu onomu tko je jamčio za drugoga
i oplijeni ga mjesto tuđinca.
14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.14 Tko pozdravlja svoga prijatelja naglas, a rano ujutro,
prima mu se blagoslov za kletvu.
15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;15 Streha što prokišnjava za žestoke kiše
i svadljiva žena – jedno su te isto.
16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.16 Tko nju zaustavlja, zaustavlja vjetar
i desnicom hvata ulje.
17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.17 Željezo se željezom oštri
i čovjek oštri jedan drugoga.
18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.18 Tko čuva smokvu, jede od njena ploda,
i tko čuva svoga gospodara, poštiva se.
19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.19 Kao što se u vodi različito odražava lice od lica,
tako i u srcu čovjek od čovjeka.
20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.20 Carstvo smrti i Propast ne mogu se zasititi,
tako ni oči čovječje.
21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.21 Taljika je za srebro i peć za zlato,
a čovjek se poznaje po ustima koja ga hvale.
22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.22 Da bezumnika stučeš tučkom u stupi,
ne bi ga ostavila ludost njegova.
23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;23 Brižno pazi na stoku svoju,
i srcem se brini o stadima,
24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.24 jer blago ne traje dovijeka;
i baštini li se kruna od koljena do koljena?
25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,25 Kad trava nikne i zelen se pokaže,
i bilje se kupî planinsko,
26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,26 tad su ti janjci za odijelo
i jarci za kupovinu poljâ;
27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.27 tad imaš izobilje kozjega mlijeka sebi za jelo,
i za hranu kući svojoj
i za prehranu sluškinjama svojim.
