Sirach 14

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 Happy the man whose mouth brings him no grief, who is not stung by remorse for sin.	1 Feliz el hombre que no se ha deslizado con su boca, ni sufre tormento por la tristeza del pecado.
2 Happy the man whose conscience does not reproach him, who has not lost hope.	2 Feliz aquel a quien su conciencia no reprocha, y que no queda corrido en su esperanza.
3 Wealth ill becomes the mean man; and to the miser, of what use is gold?	3 Para el hombre mezquino no es buena la riqueza, para el envidioso, ¿de qué sirve el dinero?
4 What he denies himself he collects for others, and in his possessions a stranger will revel.	4 Quien amontona a expensas de sí mismo, para otros amontona, con sus bienes se regalarán otros.
5 To whom will he be generous who is stingy with himself and does not enjoy what is his own?	5 El que es malo para sí, ¿para quién será bueno? No logrará contento en medio de sus tesoros.
6 None is more stingy than he who is stingy with himself; he punishes his own miserliness.	6 Nadie peor que el que se tortura a sí mismo, esa es la paga de su maldad.
7 If ever he is generous, it is by mistake; and in the end he displays his greed.	7 Aun si llega a hacer el bien, lo hace por descuido, al final dejará ver su maldad.
8 In the miser's opinion his share is too small;	8 Malo es el de ojo envidioso, que vuelve su rostro y desprecia a los demás.
9 he refuses his neighbor and brings ruin on himself.	9 El ojo del avaro no se satisface con su suerte, la avaricia seca el alma.
10 The miser's eye is rapacious for bread, but on his own table he sets it stale.	10 El ojo malo se alampa por el pan, hambriento está en su propia mesa.
11 My son, use freely whatever you have and enjoy it as best you can;	11 Hijo, trátate bien, conforme a lo que tengas, y presenta dignamente tus ofrendas al Señor.
12 Remember that death does not tarry, nor have you been told the grave's appointed time.	12 Recuerda que la muerte no se tardará, y que el pacto del seol no se te ha revelado.
13 Before you die, be good to your friend, and give him a share in what you possess.	13 Antes de morir, haz el bien a tu amigo, según tus medios dale con largueza.
14 Deprive not yourself of present good things, let no choice portion escape you.	14 No te prives de pasarte un buen día, no se te escape la posesión de un deseo legítimo.
15 Will you not leave your riches to others, and your earnings to be divided by lot?	15 ¿No dejarás a otro el fruto de tus trabajos y el de tus fatigas, para que a suertes se reparta?
16 Give, take, and treat yourself well, for in the nether world there are no joys to seek.	16 Da y recibe, y recrea tu alma, que en el seol no se puede esperar buena vida.
17 All flesh grows old, like a garment; the age-old law is: All must die.	17 Toda carne como un vestido envejece, pues ley eterna es: hay que morir.
18 As with the leaves that grow on a vigorous tree: one falls off and another sprouts-- So with the generations of flesh and blood: one dies and another is born.	18 Lo mismo que las hojas sobre árbol tupido, que unas caen y otras brotan, así la generación de carne y sangre: una muere y otra nace.
19 All man's works will perish in decay, and his handiwork will follow after him.	19 Toda obra corruptible desaparece, y su autor se irá con ella.
20 Happy the man who meditates on wisdom, and reflects on knowledge;	20 Feliz el hombre que se ejercita en la sabiduría, y que en su inteligencia reflexiona,
21 Who ponders her ways in his heart, and understands her paths;	21 que medita sus caminos en su corazón, y sus secretos considera.
22 Who pursues her like a scout, and lies in wait at her entry way;	22 Sale en su busca como el que sigue el rastro, y en sus caminos se pone al acecho.
23 Who peeps through her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 Se asoma a sus ventanas, y a sus puertas escucha.
24 Who encamps near her house, and fastens his tent pegs next to her walls;	24 Acampa muy cerca de su casa, y clava la clavija en sus muros.
25 Who pitches his tent beside her, and lives as her welcome neighbor;	25 Monta su tienda junto a ella, y se alberga en su albergue dichoso.
26 Who builds his nest in her leafage, and lodges in her branches;	26 Pone sus hijos a su abrigo, y bajo sus ramas se cobija.
27 Who takes shelter with her from the heat, and dwells in her home.	27 Por ella es protegido del calor, y en su gloria se alberga.
